  1. We've just returned from the June7, 2014 Silver Galapagos cruise to the North Central Galapagos.

Here are links to the daily Chronocle editions we got. Day1 was arrival in Baltra, transfer to ship, orientation, etc.

  2. Glad to read your comments. Some of the few prior reports were less than glowing. I was concerned sometime back when I read of the need for Imodium and Cipro, and thought about bringing bottled water. Of course, we could always brush our teeth and take meds using beer or wine.

  3. Photogirl, are you planning to do any underwater photography? Some of the undersea videos I see on TV are just mind-boggling. I don't scuba and very little snorkel, but I had considered getting a waterproof case for my video camera. It uses mini DVD disks that hold just 15 minutes, a real pain.

  4. We have the same situation, NCCruzQueen. Esther likes the house warmer than I do, she wears long pants and shirts, I wear tank top and shorts...(not a pretty sight).

Weather forecast for our week is mostly cloudy, highs of 75, lows 48.

  5. Thanks, 5waldos. Could have been a bug passed on by a passenger or at worst, from the water supply. Do they have bottled water available on board? Hate to have to bring our own. We'll have to watch posts about future cruises.

  6. Thanks for the update, mrsm88. We aren't the nitpicking type, so we won't be looking for things to complain about. Poor AC or malfunction is a worry though. The schedule of cruises for the Silver Galapagos shows that there are none on Apr 26 and May 17. The ship might be chartered those weeks or hopefully laid up for repairs and upgrading. Let us hope! Do you think that the stomach problems were from food on the ship or from the prior tours?

findacruise - We're flying Miami to Quito on American 939 on June 5th, but not going on to another tour afterwards.

  7. I have only sailed twice on Azamara and never on SS or Regents, so I can't give you a comparison. I would recommend browsing the Azamara thread where there have been many posts about the pros, cons and comparisons.

Azamara is noted for the quality of their staff on board, ratio of 400 crew to 700 passengers and good food. The officers are always available, often mingling with us in the lounges and cafe. The Journey and Quest are happy ships, all smiles, no frowns.

  8. Be sure to put your cellphone number on your bag ID tags. Someone took one of our bags from the pier after disembarking, (so many bags look alike). Security called the number on a bag that was left and reached the person and they had to come back to exchange bags.

  13. We took the nature cruise in Quaymas, lots of birds. Dolphin rode the bow and stern waves, great photo ops.

In Loreto, as mare wrote, white night was wild, quite chilly but Esther wore long johns under her whites and was happy. We took a tour provided by our TA. Walked through town to the Mission and then were entertained at a reception on the patio, fruit, wine and cheese, music and and dancing, and then stayed in town for window shopping. Loreto is clean and neat, a step back in time.

  14. Max is great and Simon, the guitarist also. Had problem with AC, too cold, but fixed immediately. LaPaz City Higlights tour not good, poor guide but others said the other bus guide was good, luck of the draw.

Capt. Jose very friendly, loves the mike at the cocktail parties.

    More later,

  15. Hi mrsm88,

I see in other Silver Galapagos posts that you are booked on the March 1 cruise. We are on the June 7 cruise. We too hope that there will be posts from those traveling before us.

I started a Roll Call in Silversea Roll Call and hope that we get some action.

So, anyone out there going on the Silver Galapagos, please post in the Roll Call board.

  16. Frankfurt Airport has a good web site, lots of tips and help.

I read that you arrive and leave from the International area and do not have to go through customs and immigration. Might have to walk from one section to another, ie: B to C.

You can go to the Lufthansa site and check your flight numbers and see where they arrive and leave.
