  1. I have a favor. I would like to buy two "shelf sitters" from the straw market at Labadee as a gift for a friend. She saw ours sitting on a shelf and would like one of her own. I will try to upload a photo.

I've looked online and cannot find anything close to what we bought in Labadee. I am happy to reimburse someone for shopping and shipping for me.

    Thank you,

  2. Lucayan National Park is about 20 miles from the pier at Freeport. We rented a Jeep and drove out there on our own, so I do not know what a taxi would cost. The Jeep was $142 USD. The route is fairly direct with a few turns and roundabouts in left side driving to keep things interesting. The rental Jeep was a US Jeep with the steering wheel on the left, so no need to adapt to a right side steering wheel AND left side driving.

The beach is stunning. There are no facilities on the beach, or near the beach, other than a few picnic tables. I recommend a visit.

  3. DW and I just did the Pearl Island excursion on RCL. The island is not fully developed. I did not see a pool, and the "spectacular beach" was not so spectacular. Just a small white sand cove. The upside was many cancelled on the pier at Nassau when boarding was difficult, so there wasn't a big crowd on the island. I'd look elsewhere for an excursion.

  4. We were on the Jan 3 cruise. We had a bath mat in our balcony cabin. At first I thought the mat was one of the towels. About mid-cruise our cabin attendant offered us shampoo and conditioner even though we brought our own. Sounds like another consistency/quality control problem of which there were many.

If you have reservations in Grande, ask for Basaam. And in Chic ask for Alvaro.

Be sure to watch "Hello" more than once in 270. There are different endings!

  5. We used the self checkout option to disembark. All went well until we got to the customs line where there were only three agents to process a growing line of passengers. The helpers made it more confusing by taking people from the single queue and lining us up at each agent station. Go figure. Still, we were at the car and one the road by 8:00 am.

  6. Someone asked about room service. I will try to give a summary.

There is free room service using the breakfast door tag. Selections are limited to cold breakfast items (cereals and rolls) plus bread and coffee.

There is a limited room service menu available on the interactive TV system.

There is a charge of $4.95 for a burger, salmon, wings and pork sliders.

Free items include caesar salad, chicken soup, corn chowder and wraps. There is also a free children's menu and a limited selection of free desserts. Milk, tea and coffee are also free. No pizza on the menu anywhere.

  7. Regarding menus for Dynamic Dining most of what is shown on the website is different from what is in the menu on board. We had booked Silk twice based on the online menu and canceled the second reservation after seeing the onboard menu.

Devinly Decadence offers a complimentary breakfast buffet and a complimentary a la carte lunch. Dinner requires a reservation for a fee.

We have seen Starwater twice. I am glad we did since there is a lot going on during the show. Do not try to figure out a plot or story line. Just enjoy it for what it is, a showcase for 270 and a very talented ensemble of singers and dancers. Definitely WOW.

Sonic Odyssey is also WOW and another showcase type production. The drum wall is incredible.

Our last dinner is a return to the Grande. It was easy to change reservations and we asked for the same waiter.

There is no "farewell" show tonight and no Qwest. With both 270 and the theatre booked for Starwater and Odyssey there is no place to host anything else big.

Did anyone on board go to Groovy Town in the music hall? This is the updated version of the Village People show from other ships.

  8. We are docked at the pier in Old San Juan. On Tuesday Westerdam and Norwegian Gem were here when we arrived and they both departed by 7 pm. Today one of the Disney ships is here.

Last night we walked into town to Castillo San Cristobal. They normally close at 6 pm but are open late on Tuesday nights for lantern tours of the fort. For Three Kings Day they also had a guitar orchestra. This was pleasant surprise. The town was very busy until late.

  9. We had dinner last night in Silk. Same general chaos but good food. Asian food is not our favorite so we have cancelled our second reservation in Silk. DW and I enjoy 270 as our go-to space for playing cards etc. The afternoon videos have been fun. I discovered the one called "Hello" has two endings.

Earlier in the day I did iFly. WOW. A great experience. Book this early on line when you can. On line Reservations opened only a month before our cruise. Don't give up if iFly fills up as they will take standbys to fill no shows. We had three no shows in our time slot.

Today we will try the stair landing on deck 14 with the glass floor that looks straight down the main elevator shaft. Maybe they can call this the SouthStar experience?

For you theatre techies here is a picture of the piano in 270 on the lower level of the lift from the main floor. They were resetting the room for Starwater.

  10. A few updates from Sunday evening.

    Mamma Mia = WOW

After so many years of shows with mediocre content by the Royal Caribbean Dancers, we had a night of WOW. Granted there is not much depth and meaning to the story in Mamma Mia, but the energy and fun of it all is perfect for a show at sea. Watch for the guys dancing in snorkel flippers. Lol.

American Icon was a mess. The food was good however the service and atmosphere was chaotic. I ordered the Nebraska short rib and my wife had surf and turf. The short rib was more like a pot roast that was very tender. About half way through dinner my wife realized she only received turf - no shrimp on the plate. Our wait staff did not offer any of the attention as we received in Chic the night before. As we were leaving I noticed the waiter station, usually neat and tidy in the main dining room of olde, was a mess of dirty dishes. Regarding the menu, American Icon looks like a fun place to order dinner from the appetizer menu, something I never thought about under the main dining room system.

There was an air of energy and excitement on the Royal Promenade last night as Mamna Mia and Starwater both let out at the same time and people headed toward the center of the ship from theaters on both ends.

The weather this morning is sunny and the seas have finally calmed. Today is iFly and a cabin crawl.

  11. We dined in Chic last night. Our waiters were as engaging as always. Alvarado said he has the same section each night so we will ask to sit with him again when we are at Chic later in the cruise. One of our CCers has recommended a waitress in American Icon as well.

We are in balcony cabin on deck 7. The design of the ship has life boats just below us so all of the balconies on either side of the center hump do not look straight down to the sea.

We have the cabin with the bed by the balcony. I like this arrangement as it gives more area immediately inside the door. We do not have a coffee table and that helps with the space.

Embarkation was a breeze once we got through the line of cars arriving at the pier.

    So far, so good.
