  1. Wow...way my mind is going, I read that and first thought was "but it's not a port wine." lmao Thanks for all the responses. I have had mixed experiences in the past from a good look at the bottle (which we never opened because we forgot a bottle opener) to having two bottles in my bag (carrying for my wife) and they never even took it out after they went through the x-ray. If they're going by age and looks, then they may wave me on and hand me a confiscated bottle of liquor out of pity 🙂 I was mostly interested in the fake-Bailey's style stuff, but I'd think that'd be more likely to be questioned so I guess I'll just get the cheap fruity stuff my wife likes and call it a day. Or maybe I should take my gaff above as a sign and find a port to try 🙂
  2. Was wondering about the bottle of wine. Our grocery store can only sell beer and wine. I noticed today that they had Sake and they had Omara's Irish Cream, which again was wine based. (Both had a lower alcohol content than some of the wines). They also had pre-made margarita's, again wine based. Are these going to pass the carry-on bag check? Will I be trying to convince someone that it is a wine based drink? (or are most of you thinking that I shouldn't waste money on these wannabe concoctions?
  3. Thanks. We're driving down and staying by Southpoint which has a Metro Diner not far away. About 15 miles from the port - which I hope with the population being a quarter of Atlanta metro area means an easier drive than if we were here!
  4. I've not done this myself, but usually the ships have a workout area and supposedly the showers in there tend to be a little closer to full size showers. But pressure and hot water have never been an issue for me.
  5. I get motion sickness pretty easy. In fact, we didn't start cruising until 18 years after we were married out of fear I'd be sick...so much wasted time! My first cruise I had the wrist bands (which in the past did nothing for me), and Bonine. I felt a little off once or twice (on a Carnival Fantasy class ship). Looking back it may have been the bonine. Also the bonine made me VERY drowsy. My mom (where I get my motion sickness from) uses the scoplamine and still has some effects. After that cruise, I kept it with me, but have been taking ginger pills. I usually start the day before and take two a day. I was able to take several tender rides (including Belize which is a ways from the port), and an excursion around Half-Moon Cay with a boat ride, snorkeling and back with no ill effects. We had a forward cabin so in theory I should have felt all the waves etc... but didn't phase me at all. Since starting with the ginger pills, the only time I recall not feeling well was on an RCI ship where the dining room was right above the engine area and there was a constant vibration that didn't sit well with me. You've taken your cruise by now and hopefully had no ill effects, but went ahead and replied in case other see this.
  6. I just love getting a lido buffet cup of coffee and watch them pull into port. No one around...very peaceful
  7. I live in the same town as Shaq. Next time I see him around the square, I'll mention he is needed more on the ships than TV. (actually I feel like the only person without a "I ran into Shaq" story).
  8. Thanks...will take a look at those two. Never heard of the Maple Street Biscuit Company. Reminds me a bit of Biscuit Head in Asheville - amazing out the door lines, even when it's freezing out. Meanwhile the Carrot Cake pancakes at the other place sound good too! We do have a (completely different) Metro diner downtown...yours looks better!
  9. Just got an email about my cruise in two weeks, how it occurs during spring break and all about the rules. Just me and the wife - so don't care if I'm by the pool or not, not too crazy about Serenity, have some noise cancelling earbuds etc, and can probably out drink them. Only one sea day (just a 4 day getaway) so I guess I'll get to watch them all stumble back from Senor Frogs.
  10. Yes...driving down from Atlanta. Will look at there...not too far off from the port. Haven't picked a place to stay yet so am somewhat flexible. Would prefer to avoid things that we can get here...but there is also something to be said for a known quantity!
  11. We haven't booked a place yet. Would prefer to be closer to the port, so probably the NE or SE part of 295. Chicken and egg...was trying to figure out the breakfast place to figure out where to book... 🙂 Be glad to hear some local recommendations! 🙂
  12. We're getting in late the night before our cruise. Been years since I've gone out of Jacksonville but remember getting to the port being pretty easy. But (without going downtown) what are some good places to get breakfast before heading into the fray? When we cruised out of Miami, breakfast before was probably one of the highlights - especially since we had to get my daughter to translate. Not expecting something that perfect, but would be nice to have something other than McDonalds. Thanks
  13. I'll be on the elation in two weeks. Don't mind the thongs, but wife may mind me not minding them..lol. But yeah...don't care - could do without knowing sweaty body parts were all over the chairs before me. Probably good about the weed - not sure if HR would buy that for a random drug test. Then again, as I go around town here, if it hasn't affected me yet, I probably have a tolerance!
  14. Our first cruise I was like a pack mule - soda's, water, my notebook bag, cpap, camera, etc... By the time we could go to our room I was miserable (and sore). Plus carrying all that around made going through the buffet and so on a pain. I don't bring nearly as much any more, but the ability to get on and go right to our room to dump all that is nice. Something about being in the (aft) pool with a mojito at 11a.
  15. In theory. When we were on Conquest, there were a number of kids in that pool for quite a while and then I guess one day someone finally decided to enforce it. Should have been done from the start - only because it led to lots of questions of "well, yesterday...." Didn't bother me, they were better behave than some of the adults, but can understand wanting to get away !!!!
