  1. TravelLynn, I just hope Viking realizes most of us will want the over night trip to Havana, and make sure they can accommodate all of us. Looking forward to the cruise! We lost friend this past Sunday, we used to travel with her a lot. I am sure she and her husband would have loved the chance to join this cruise, we will count our blessings, and remember her.

  2. We are still going, we are trying Viking for the first time. We want to compare it to Crystal. We love sailing smaller ships and interesting ports. We are signed up for the Viking Spirit 2019 Hong Kong to Tokyo. The Cuba cruise will let us compare the lectures, entertainment and shore tours with what we have experienced Crystal. We are sailing Crystal March 2018 Tahiti to Chili sailing to Easter Island and Robinson Crusoe Island. Think about joining us!

  3. Thank you Peregrina651 after I wrote that yesterday someone did call. I was not home but will return their call this morning. Has restored my faith Viking to have them give me the courtesy of a reply. Thank you for your help.

  4. We are very disappointed with Viking today. We had booked the Far East & Alaska cruise for 2019. We just found out that our grandson's high school graduation will be during the last part of the cruise. I called today and had my travel agent drop the last part of the cruise but we will do the first half Far Eastern Horizons. We made our reservation in April and got a port side room, today when the TA called they immediately took our room away from us and put us in a starboard side room across from the elevators. I am very angry with Viking. They said my room was sold, Immediately? That is not customer friendly service!

  5. I had signed up for the M&M. Is there a way to view the M&M and see who is coming?

Yes, when I signed up there was a highlighted spot that said see who has registered. Click there and you can see who is registered. Viking wants a a certain number of people to sign up. They do not tell you the numbers but, will email you when the list hits the number people needed.

  6. You have to sign up for the Meet and Mingle in order to get an invitation delivered to your cabin. Follow the Meet and Mingle link at the top of this page to sign up, which must be done at least two weeks before sailing. Anyone who is a member of Cruise Critic plus the people sailing with them are welcome to attend; you do not have to be an active member of a roll call to qualify. For instance, when I signed up for our M&M, I signed up three other people --my husband and the couple we sailed with. The sign up requires that you give the full name of each person so that invitations can be delivered to your cabin; screen names are not shared with Viking. The M&M time and date are not announced in the daily schedule.

Thank you Peregrina651, I have followed your instructions and I will encourage others to sign up as well. Thanks again:)

  7. The Viking Sun will be making her maiden voyage on October 4, 2017, less than 6 months from now and will begin Viking's first World Cruise Miami to London in December. There are a number of roll calls that have been started but they aren't getting much traffic. Maybe that is because people are relying on the "Find Your Roll Call" tool in the tool bar at the top of this page and the Viking Sun has not yet been added to the list of Viking ships. I don't know as much about the Spirit but I do know that there are a couple of roll calls already started and that Viking Spirit is also NOT on the drop-down list in the roll call tool. Cruise Critic has not gotten around to fixing the omission.

I love the roll calls and I want to help everyone who wants to participate to have an easy time finding them. I'm going to post links for all of the roll calls that have been started as of today and this list will be accurate only for today. I am not going to edit it in the future. If your sail date is not on the list below go to Viking Roll Calls/Viking Sun and check the list for existing roll calls before you start a new one. (There is nothing more frustrating than multiple rolls for the same sail date).

If you don't want to actively participate in a roll call, you can still easily follow it by subscribing to the thread. Use the THREAD TOOLS drop-down menu at the top of each thread to subscribe to the thread. Choose "Daily Notification" to receive a transcription of the last 24 hours worth of posts delivered right to you e-mail inbox (no need to navigate to Cruise Critic or to open the app in order to keep up with what's going on). If there have been no posts in the last 24 hours, there will be no e-mail and so you not have a flood of e-mails telling you that there have been no posts in the last 24 hours.

Here is the current list of Viking Sun roll calls, up to date as of May 7, 2017 and with no future updates anticipated.

Thank you for listing the Spirit roll calls. We will be taking the April 21, 2019 cruise and I am eager but, what a long wait! Anticipation is half the fun.

  8. But the question was about what to tip the person who delivers the drinks that you order via room service to your cabin. Some people feel that this is an added service beyond just serving a drink in the bar (where the gratuity is already included in the price of the drink) and should be tipped. The person asking the question is from the UK and he was asking advice on how to handle this situation. Also, being from the UK, the gratuities that will be charged to onboard accounts at the end of the cruise for those who booked in the US have already been paid as part of his cruise fare because he booked in the UK. In reality, the ship is not entirely cashless; small gratuities for services rendered are many times paid directly to an individual in cash, such as for room service.

Sorry, just thought they would add tip to room service as well. I am used to Crystal with no tipping. We give cash tips our favorite people, at the end of our cruise, above the no tip policy.

  9. Double check, I think Viking adds tipping at the end of your trip. A daily amount of $15 a day plus additional tips for bars and spa treatments of 15-18%. Remember the ship is cashless while on board. I will go on the website and see if I can find where I read this.

I went to the website and yes they add the tips at the end of the cruise $15 a day. You do have the option to change the amount if you wish. 15% is added for the bar bill and deck service from the bar.

  10. This'll probably seem like a silly question to all you Americans - but how much do you tip if you order a drink from room service?

We Brits aren't quite as into tipping as you are, and I hate to do the wrong/mean thing!

  11. We have booked Far East & Alaska 2019. I saw it on the Viking website. This is a back to back segment of their world cruise that year. We saved a $1,000 by booking it as one cruise verses each segment separately. Viking then increased the air fare $1,000, shame on them! That did not sit well with me or our travel agent, we will look into booking our own air fare.

  12. Thank you KyOh, we have booked the Far East & Alaska cruise April 2019. I was a little nervous about the sea days and what to do, since we have not sailed with Viking before. You have put my mind at ease. We will be sailing with Viking this November 24 for the cruise to Cuba. Did you book your hotel (Sheraton) on your own or using Viking. We usually book with points our hotel. I ask this because so many people showed up for Happy Hour. What a great idea you had.
