  1. I leave on Sunday and have been trying to figure out how to communicate with my kids who are not going with us. Was thinking of getting the $25 social package and using Facebook Messenger. When you say you talked to them through Facebook how did you do that? Are you talking about facetime on the iphone/ipad?

There actually is a phone icon in Facebook and I was able to talk like it was a phone call, but using the Internet through Facebook. It was a fairly good connection. Just a 2-3 second delay.

The phone icon was in Facebook Messenger on my phone.

  2. Thanks everyone. Yes LuLu this is my first post so thanks for the welcome! I don't yet know how to respond to a particular comment - still learning the ropes. I have been researching Nachi Cocum. I don't see this offered as a Carnival excursion so I guess you book it yourself. The Cozumel bar hop sounds great but one in our party (we will be two couples in party) does not drink. A group of 8 of us did the Key West Bar Crawl one year and we are still talking about that night. Fun!Rockdoctor's comment made me chuckle. My preference sounds like a all-inclusive quiet beach day. I appreciate your comments and look forward to hearing others. We will be in the Freedom out of Galveston on Nov 12th.

We are going to Nachi Cocum in a couple of weeks. The last time we were in Cozumel (in the Spring) we did Cooking with Josephina as a private excursion. You take a cab to Josephina's house and look at the cookbook to decide on lunch. You then walk to the market and learn a little about local produce and then back to the house where you all participate in preparing lunch and eating. If you do this one, come hungry!

  3. The cabins are on 11 and 12 spa is on 13 but there's a somewhat private elevator to get you up there.

The pool is like a whirlpool but with a built in lounger to lay on. The heated tile loungers are so comfortable. If you want to get away and just relax, these are awesome. I wish I was lying on a heated tile loungers right now.

  4. I did a cruise while I was in peritoneal dialysis. It was on NCL but could have been in any ship. I carried my supplies on with me and the ships crew were awesome to me. I did have to meet with the environmental officer for specific instructions to dispose of my fluids.

It can be done and can be fun. I don't know about hemodialysis in a cruise though.

  5. We cruised from Bayport last month. It was so easy. We did fly into Hobby so it was closer and less expensive. I booked an execucar to take us to the port and SuperShuttle to get us back to the airport. The Execucar was worth the little bit of extra money to ride in a private towncar.

    Enjoy your trip!

  6. We are just off the Jewel. I think 2 virgin drinks were $10.51 with the 18% service charge included in that. I think they were $4.50 each.

the funny thing was that we were told the first three days of the cruise that they couldn't make a Pina Colada, but they could after that. I think somebody forgot to load the mix in Houston and they picked some up in Cozumel (but I thought that they didn't load supplies in foreign ports).

I did have a delicious virgin banana daquiri on one of the no Pina Colada nights.

  7. We are on the sailing tomorrow. On our flight from ATL today, Delta was offering $1000 vouchers and hotel in ATL but couldn't guarantee arrival at HOU until 12:30 day of sailing. We had to pass on that offer and are relaxing in our Houston hotel tonight b

  8. The March 21 sailing tomorrow is showing as leaving early at 3pm for fog. My guess is it is related to that. Here is the notice on the NCL site:

    Norwegian Jewel Weather Alert

Updated Friday, March 20, 2015 ET

Norwegian Cruise Line has important information for guests sailing tomorrow on Norwegian Jewel from Houston. Due to anticipated fog in the Houston area this Saturday, Norwegian Jewel will now sail earlier than scheduled, at 3:00pm on Saturday, March 21, 2015. We are asking all guest to arrive at the Bayport Cruise Terminal no later than 2:00 pm. We thank you for your understanding and look forward to welcoming you aboard the beautiful Norwegian Jewel.

  9. I'm not sure about the Pearl, but on all of the ships I've been on lately, these have changed over to Cake Boss and are chargeable.

I was on the Pearl for an 11 night 12/22/2014 and they had a small case with iced slices of pound cake that were complimentary. My favorite flavor was the green one (Pistacio, I believe). The also had a HUGE cinnamon roll in the mornings that they would cut slices of, but I didn't try it.

Good luck! Never hurts to ask once you are at the Atrium Coffee Bar.

  10. We booked an inside guarantee for the 12/22/14 sailing of the Norwegian pearl. Our booking was made at 8am on 12/21/14 (about 30 hours before sailing). By about 3pm on that day we were assigned cabin 11606 a Mini-Suite. We loved the extra space and the fabulous deal we got on an 11 night sailing over Christmas and New Years.

  11. Also with the dining package, you can go to more than one Specialty restaurant per day/night. We found that Teppanyaki was open for lunch one day on our last cruise and went and a couple of nights we had dinner at one specialty and then went to another for dessert. Also with dining the upcharge items (lobster at the asian restaurant) are included. It's a very nice package.

  12. We booked an 11 day this morning from Miami on the Pearl

that leaves tomorrow. We live in Nashville so we've been in the car all day today and have many more driving hours to go. I'm not sure what the regular selling price on our sailing was, but based on past cruises I'm thinking we are paying about 75-80% less. We also paid for an inside guarantee and got our cabin assignment about 6 hours after booking and got a deck 11 balcony.

  13. When we were on the Gem a few weeks ago the Captain said there were going to be some updates in the coming weeks since the dry dock was delayed. He mentioned changing carpets.

If you like sushi, go see Relly and ask him to make a special roll. The man is awesome!

  14. There is the Sports Bar that essentially has the same menu as Blue Lagoon. And hours are limited. Opens at 530PM till about 2-3am I think

Yep--that's it. the Sports Bar has essentially the Blue Lagoon menu during dinner and late night. We were on the Sun in June and went there a couple of times for our chicken wing, spinach artichoke dip fix.
