  1. I also am one of those people who read about others getting an upgrade/upsell offer and know I'm never lucky enough! I guess there's a first time for everything because I got "The Call" today!!! Had a message when I got home from work from my TA. I called back and, of course, when she tried to call Princess they were closed for the day. She left a message, so now I'm anxiously awaiting a phone call tomorrow. I think it's a good deal, but am not positive. Don't know if I got carried away with the whole excitement of it or not! We're going to Alaska the end of May and are booked in an obstructed oceanview room. The upsell is for a balcony at $179 per person. It might even be too late already; I know it's all on a first come first serve basis. What do you think?

One more question.....My sister and brother-in-law are going on this cruise with us and it's their first cruise. They are also in an obstructed oceanview a few doors down from us. They did not receive a phone call. What are the chances of me talking Princess into moving them along with us (if we get moved, that is)? Both of our cabins IMO are decent views if that makes any difference in Princess reselling those rooms.

  2. I agree completely with your comparison. We are Diamond Members with RCCL and Platinum Members with Princess. There are things we like better on RCCL and things we like better on Princess. We will be on the Crown in May and on the Allure in October, and looking forward to each one of them for their individual qualities. Sometimes people waste their vacation with needless complaints (comparisons). Like..."They don't do that on RCCL" or "On Princess they do it this way". Just enjoy each cruise line for what they are......A CRUISE VACATION! Glad you enjoyed yours and thanks again for your great open minded views:)

  3. I would be interested in seeing a poll of what people think of the banquette type seating in the dining venues on Princess ships. My wife and I don't find them comfortable at all compared to a chair. They give you no way to adjust how close you are to the table unless you move the table. They cause us to sit too low compared to the table especially since the older ones seem to be butt-sprung so you sink into the seat. They often are more difficult to get into or out of.

We always try to avoid sitting at a banquette table if we have an option but when you ask for a table for two, a banquette is what you get.

Does anyone out there dislike them like we do? Is there anyone who would prefer one to a table with chairs?

I'm with you. You sit lower than the table and it's very uncomfortable. We've had that table arrangement a few times and take turns every other night on who gets the nice chair!

  4. I felt like I was reading my personal comparison! I agree with 99% of what you said. We are Diamond members on RCCL and Platinum members on Princess. We feel very lucky to have two great cruise lines to choose from. We know what to expect on each line (better food on Princess, nice promenade on RCCL, etc.), therefore we are not disappointed no matter what line we're on. We were just on the Caribbean Princess in June and had an awesome time. We will be on the Allure in October and can hardly wait! Again, you did a great comparison; thanks!

  5. I have offered to plan a cruise for my 40th high school reunion (which is still a couple years away), but being the planner that I am, I am already starting to try and get some ideas on how to go about it. This has been a very informative thread for me. I'm so glad I "stumbled" upon it:) Thank you to everyone who posts comments on the different threads. You never know who you're going to help!!!

  6. We were just on the CB two weeks ago. She went into dry dock for ten days after leaving Texas and before coming to Ft. Lauderdale. We loved it! It's the third time we've sailed her. The carpet in the common areas was all new. There was no Norovirus and the food was excellent! I guess they're having some sort of mechanical issues because they keep arriving back into Ft. Lauderdale at 1:00 am for maintenance work, but we didn't notice anything during the cruise.

  7. We just got off of her on June 14 and the Captain came on the announcements during dinner the last night and said that we would be docking at 1:00 am due to maintenance work. There were signs on the pier by the ship stating there were divers in the water both when we boarded and when we disembarked. We never noticed anything during the cruise. It was actually kinda neat watching us come in at night. The lights along the shoreline were beautiful.

  8. We're on her next week also. A little concerned when I hear about heating and cooling problems and exhaust smell in main stairwell. I hope all goes well for fellow cruisers who are on board now! I just heard on the port radio that there are still divers in the water and it will be another half hour!

  9. We are in E731 on the CB in less than 2 weeks. IMO it is the best cabin on the entire ship (take into consideration that I have never been in a suite). Our friends are in E729 so we open the door between the two balconies and have a huge balcony! We have been in these two rooms before on different ships and they are the same. We have never had a noise issue from Club Fusion above us. The stage is on the port side of the ship. The extended balcony is wonderful! They have a table, four chairs and two footrests. We even moved the table from 729 over to 731 so the four of us could enjoy breakfast out on the balcony together and there was still plenty of room to spare!! You will not be disappointed:). We can't wait to call those two rooms our home in 11 days!

  10. I am excited to be reading your "live". We sail on her a week from Saturday. I have been curious to read about her "facelift" after dry dock because I had heard that she was looking pretty tired! On reading some of the reviews I have gotten the impression that people are not happy with the crew; stating they seem tired and over worked and not very attentive. This will be our third time on the CB and we have never had an issue so I am (hopefully) assuming that the people writing those are the ones that always have something to complain about! I have found that the people who take the time out of their well deserved vacation to post "lives" are more objective and accurate on their take of the cruise, so I will be waiting for your posts with great anticipation!!! Cruise on:)

  11. We were on the Star in October to Hawaii and loved the 3 different times in the theater. We went to the third one (usually around 10 or 10:30) and walked in 5 minutes before the show started and got second or third row center seats!! It was great! Didn't have to waste a half hour every night sitting in there just to get a seat. We also liked the variety of going to a couple different forms of entertainment every night. I agree that when it's a show you're really enjoying, that 30 minutes goes by really fast, but we still like the new format.

  12. We're booked on the Caribbean Princess for the Western Caribbean the second week in June. We've been to the Caribbean before in June and have never had a problem. Of course, we're from Arizona where it's 120 degrees in the summer so anything feels cooler to us! We've also cruised many of times in October to the Caribbean and have never once had a problem with weather due to tropical storms or hurricanes. Of course now that I've said that……...
