Norwegian Cruise Line is testing a new internet pricing model that could be rolled out fleetwide by this summer. Dubbed "Freestyle Choice Plans," the options include Social Chat ($35 for seven days), Basic ($189 for seven days) and Premium ($245 for seven days).

Please keep these coming throughout the trip if possible! This is the first I've seen of the new packages, and those speeds look promising! Once the ship leaves port and more people start eating up bandwidth, I'm interested to see how it changes.

iMessage works using data, so either wifi or cellular data will send iMessages. Buy wifi on the ship, and you can iMessage without additional charges so long as you stay connected to it. If you leave the ship in a non-US port, however, you'll get charged for international data.

Bottom line: Use it on wifi on the ship. Avoid it in non-US ports.
