  1. I booked through Carnival once under the old program. It was my 2nd cruise & 1st flying tp port. Afterwards I realized we overpaid for flights. They also booked us flying into & out of FLL instead of Miami where we sailed from which made transportation more expensive. I could've booked on my own right to MIA for less.

That said, destination was delayed nearly 12 hours on that cruise due to a tropical storm closing the port. Carnival automatically rescheduled us a later flight & then did it again when we missed the first rescuedule. They also put us in a hotel overnight. Of course, they did that for folks that didn't book through Carnival too. So the only benefit is that we didn't have to make (free) calls to tje airline ourselves. Due to the weather, nobody we spoke to incurred change fees even booked independently.

  2. I don't know about the Conquest, but i was on the first Splendor sailing where the cards where placed in the mailbox. We were able to have our boarding passes scanned at the bar to purchase drinks. Anything scanned on the boarding pass is charged to your sail & sign account.

  3. I've been to Nassau 3x. It's not my favorite & I admit it doesnt quite compare to many of the Carribbean isalnds I've seen, but I would never stay on the ship if I were to visit again. There's plenty to do & much I still haven't seen. While I understand it not being the most highly desired destination on the boards, I certainly don't think it should be automatically skipped. Do some research & I all but guarantee you'll find something enjoyable to do. I haven't had a bad time on the island yet.

I've been to Freeport once. I admit I wasn't a fan. I didn't enjoy the port area & the taxi services left much to be desired. However, we found a lovely resort to spend the day at & we enjoyed ourselves. If I were to go again, I'd get off the ship & give it another chance.

  4. My first cruise was the last week of August 2004. We were racing a tropical storm on the way back to NYC from Nova Scotia. I mean... the odds?! Made for an evening of sightly rough seas but nothing to write home about.

I sailed August 2012 on the Imagination ***** Aug 24th. Hurricane Isaac changed our late night sailing from Nassau to a 6pm departure. Didn't impact my plans 1 iota. We planned to be onbaoard before that anyway. That night remains the first & only time in 7 cruises I've gotten seasick. I made the best of it anyway & dragged my butt to the nightclub. Coming home, we were delayed 12 hours disembarking because POM was closed. Flights were missed. Carnival put us up in a hotel & we got new flights the next day. I call it an adventure. I still tell the stories of dishware flying off the tables. It remains one of the most fun cruises I've been on.

This past cruise, I booked in early October thinking we were safer from hurricanes at that point . Enter Hurricane Matthew. Our itinerary was reversed at the last minute, but we hit every port including tender at GC & experienced the smoothest seas.

Even through that, I'm booked Aug 27th on the Dream out of NOLA. I can't decide if I should expect weather given my record or if I'm due for some good luck. I'm not worried about cancellation. If we re-route, we'll live. I won't even think about it until a few days before when predictions are reasonably accurate.

  5. I gained about 5lbs on my last 6 day cruise. However, probably 4 of that came off within a few days of being home. The salt kills me. I always swell up a bit on a cruise.

I did not hit the gym once. I have just recently started a workout routine at home so it was no loss back then. I ate a sensible breakfast. Every morning I had an eggwhite omelette, some fruit & my only treat would be some breakfast potatoes some mornings. Just like at home. I skipped the syrup & sugar covered french toast. I don't eat like that at home & couldn't stomach 6 days of that at sea.

For lunches there's salads, grilled chicken, deli options... plenty of sensible choices. I did allow for some cheat days, but usually skipped mid-day desserts except for an occasional frozen yogurt because I had to.

As others have said, plenty of sensible dinner choices available too. Go easy on the bread basket. Share an appetizer (not that they are usually large to begin with). After dinner dessert was usually my biggest "aw hell I'm on vacation!" cheat.

For alcohol, I limited frozen drinks to 1 or 2 during days hanging on lido & stuck with liquor & diet soda or the like for evenings to save on calories. Honestly, the juice in all those fruity drinks gets nauseating quickly. I personally find eating & drinking drastically different from home really isn't sustainable over a week unless I want to feel sick to my stomach for my vacation.

I skipped the elevators usually, walked the equivalent of miles around the ship just during regular axtivities & did at least 2/3 excursions that required lots of movement. You can possibly expect to gain a little in tje name of having some fun & letting go, but unless you really go allllll out, I doubt it will be near 10lbs!

  6. I stumbled onto the Cunard board (I'm a Carnival cruiser & clicked too quickly) accidentally, but I saw this thread & figured I should contribute.

Right before my cruise in October I read on CC about a couple who met onboard. I thought it was so sweet but figured it was uncommon for that to work out. Well, on the first night of the cruise a guy sat down next to me & ended up getting yelled at by the bartender for lighting a cigarette one seat over from "the invisible smoking line". I laughed & educated him. We got to talking. We spent the rest of the cruise hanging out. Met in the airport terminal to wait for our flights home together. Exchanged numbers & Facebook names....

Long story short, we're still dating 8 months later. We live a few hours away from each other & still have managed to maintain a relationship & spend many weekends together. My kids adore him. We're anxiously awaiting our August cruise that we actually planned to be together for this time.

So yes, it can happen. And it makes a rather adorable story if I do say so myself 😊

  7. I don't like it either. I have booked the vast majority of my cruises on the site with no hassle. This time I got to the point of serious frustration. Unless I'm seriously missing something, I lost the option to enter the number of travelers into the initial search. I had to chose a destination & a month & then select a cruise & begin the process for that cruise to get availability & pricing for more than 2 people. It was a waste of time because some options I was checking out I'd go 3 steps in only to find out no cabins were available for 3-4 people. Quite obnoxious. I preferred being able to also filter by number of travelers in the room so I would not see cruises that couldn't accommodate me & my children.

I was also trying to see what our cruise costs now on the mobile site. I know it's only gone up, but I wanted to know by how much. I had clicked on our date every time but the first 3 times it loaded dates not even in the same month I had filtered to. They weren't even options to click on.

I also cannot get "cruise details" to load in the cruise manager on my phone.

As a big website & mobile user....:mad::mad:

  8. We purchased a couple bottles of water in either Freeport or Nassau back last January. We drank 1 & took no more than a sip or 2 from the other. My daughter had the one lacking 2 sips in her Night Owls backpack when we borded. I simply forgot about it. They made us throw it away before boarding.

Alcohol I would say is an unequivocal NO.

  9. I love this & hope it's available for the Dream in August. We don't eat in the MDR everynight & generally decide which nights to make our skip nights based on the menu. Yes, we can always pop down to the MDR to read it but this is much more convenient! We check the HUB for activities & decide what time to attend dinner based on what activities we want to attend (always have ATD) & now we can use the HUB to decide where to eat too.

  10. Yes they do. I can't remember if we had an 11 or 11:30 back in October, but we showed up right after the start. Before letting us into the building, I was asked for our boarding passes to verify our check-in time. We, of course, were allowed in.

I've never done FTTF, but I believe you are required to pick a time, but you can actually arrive anytime & be allowed in once they open for check in.

  11. I live on LI & always fly from JFK or LGA. I'm coming up on my 8th cruise. I will be flying to NOLA the day before for this one. I've also flown the day before for my last 2 cruises & I sailed from NY once. That leaves 4 cruises that I flew day of. It was stressful, but I made it every time. The main reason I flew in the day before the past 2 & will do so upcoming is because these 3 are with my kids & I need to rush as little as possible when they are involved. Plus, I've never been to NOLA so I'm going to tour for the day.

I know weather isn't looking great this weekend, but you're odds are not too awful. 1 of my 4, we had a delay because of a light bulb. Still made it with hours upon hours to spare. Try not to stress. Flying is a crap shoot. In March, I left my LI home, drove to JFK, went through security, & was happily having lunch awaiting departure to Cleveland when suddenly all flights were grounded due to weather. I ended up leaving the airport in a rental car to embark on an 8 hour drive. But those 4 cruises day of I made it no problems. Takeaways? Fly a day early if you can. If you can't? Have a back up if possible. But from experience, you're definitely not dammed to hell coming in day of.

    Best of luck!

  12. That's simply not acceptable. I am onboard 10000% with checking who has attended. However, at some very reasonable point, you have to call no-show & make the derelicts attend at an inconvenient time.

I have issues with lower blood pressure and fainting. It's nothing too terrible. It takes extreme circumstances for it to be a problem. In October in Miami with the heat in the 90s & lots of people in a small space & little air... I fainted, I fainted a few minutes into the drill. In front of hundreds of people. My poor kids caught me as I fell. My pre-teen daughter was crying hysterical when I came to. Terrifying for my kids & humiliating for me. Because others couldn't just be on time.

I am not even 30 & mostly healthy & waiting in the heat for passengers with no respect ended badly for me. I feel real bad for others with more extreme conditions having to wait. Start without 'em & make them pay later.
