  1. We are going on a family vacation with my husband's family on the Allure in July, and I'm planning on giving a gift bag to each couple in our group . This will be their first time on Royal Caribbean, as they have cruised before on Carnival ('08) and on the Big Red Boat.

I've bought some Canvas totes to put in the gifts.

What other items can I get for the them?

  2. One minor point.

Your Misc. packing list includes address labels and stamps for postcards. Unless you plan to wait until you return to Fort Lauderdale to mail the cards, US postage won't work in Nassau, etc.

Thank you for the good tip. I'm not one to send out postcards, but its good to know. I'll update the spreadsheet with that.

  3. I'm glad its helpful. I will be going on the Allure for the 1st time in July. I've gone on the Oasis twice it was awesome. From other posts that I've gotten, Allure and the Oasis are pretty similar. I found on another post, a recent Daily Compass for the Oasis that can give you an idea of the shows, etc. Check it out:

  4. Like I said, this is a list of all the things I have gathered from various websites. It goes without saying that you shouldn't take everything on these lists. You take what you need.

Some of these items are good tips. I went on the Oasis in 2013 with a 6 month old. I did not know then about the denture tablets. It would have been helpful, since I brought the Sterlizer.

As far as the menus, its good to know when you have a few picky eaters in your family, or some with allergies.

We all have our ways on getting ready for your next trip. Mine is to conduct research and save it on a spreadsheet. If its helpful for you, take what you need. If its not, ignore the post.

  5. Attached is a Planner that I have that is based on the information that I've gathered from CruiseCritic, Cruise Diva, Samantha Brown, Family Vacation Critic...

As you will see the workbook is pretty extensive. I'm the family travel planner, therefore I tend to research and save all this stuff. By doing this, it just helps me contain my excitement for the upcoming cruise.

In the Itinerary tab, you will see what I use to book the excursions, reservations, etc.

**By no means do I think that everything on this list should be taken. Use what you need.**

  6. Hi I was hoping that anyone that's returned from the recent allure voyage might have kept their cruise compass and would be willing to share it on here. We're going on our first RCL experience on the allure in April, taking the eastern Caribbean route, and we're looking to plan a few things around any onboard activities. Thanks you.

I came across this post this weekend, of someone who went on the Oasis (Eastern Caribbean) that posted the Daily Compass from her trip. I know its not the Allure, but it should give you an idea. Based on other CC posts, I think it should be very similar.

  9. So a few things I heard:

--If you are a Crown & Anchor member you get a discount on the first gagdet and then 1/2 off on the second gagdet. If you are interested in this option, it stated that you cant pre-purchase, you have to buy it onboard?

--The VOOM package is per gagdet. So I'm divided, because I dont know if I want to get it on the iPad Air or the iPhone 6. The iPhone is more accessible since its smaller.

QQ -- If I buy the VOOM, should I be texting or should I use Whats App instead? I dont want to rack up roaming charges. I currently have Sprint as my cell phone carrier and I have unlimited data. But I dont know how that works while i'm in International Waters.

  10. I went on the Oasis when my son was 7 months old (Jul 2013). Like you, I was scared about the car seat situation, but I didn't bring the car seat, I did take the stroller though (Britax B-agile). At the different ports, we carried him and held on tight. My husband had him the whole time in the car/taxi/boat. It was fine. Of course as a mother you worry and you think worst-case scenario, but at the end it turned out okay. At the ports, I did take the stroller. We just collapsed it and took it.

  11. We are coming from Fargo, ND and tickets have been terribly expensive...we have always paid about 500...and they have been hanging around 730/800 for the past 6 months. One day I just caught a random sale and found them for about 560.00...I figured I would go into Miami for that.

For the future, check out Airfare Watch Dog (http://www.airfarewatchdog.com/). You can setup alerts for low prices for the airports that you are looking into. You can setup all different types of alerts. I have them to my favorite cities. They send me an email weekly and if the price is right, we book an emergency vacation for an easy getaway.

You can get good price quotes as well on http://www.TravelZoo.com.

  12. Question or pointers....we normally always fly into FLL but for some reason we grabbed flights at a lower fare going into Miami. Can anyone give any pointers on transportation? We are traveling as a group of 6, so there is quite a few of us/luggage. We have been thinking about maybe just renting a car to get to FLL, might be cheaper? We are flying in a day early. Can we rent a car and drop at the port? Has anyone had luck with this? Or should we just look to get a taxi? I am thinking cost might get high on that?

You can also consider an Uber. I went to the Uber Estimate Page (http://uberestimate.com/costs.php) and this is the information I got for you from MIA to Port Everglades. You can change the To and From for exact charges.

    ESTIMATED TOTAL COSTS

    uberX: $31-41

    uberX is Uber's budget option

Picks you up in your everyday car: Seats up to 4 people

    uberXL: $68-91

UberBLACK is the luxury version of uberX

Picks you up in a high-end sedan (or luxury SUV if you're lucky): Seats up to 4

    LUX: $84-111

UberXL is Uber's budget SUV option

Picks you up in your everyday SUV: Seats up to 6

    LUX SUV: $166-220

UberSUV is the luxury version of UberXL

Picks you up in a high-end SUV (Escalade, Navigator, etc): Seats up to 6

  13. How would I find out if there was a quinceañera theme cruise? This is something we are interested in for DD's quinceañera.

I booked my nieces 15s cruise through 2 travel agencies in Miami. They offer 3 themed parties with open bar. They usually have like 10 cruises in the summer that have these parties. In addition to shirts and bags and a cruise discount. It was really great.
