  1. Funny, I never realized that holidaying with my kids over the years, and now with my grandkids too, was something that I deserved a break from. DW and I didn't know that we had to be alone to "have trully (sic) had a holiday." Thanks for straightening us out! :)

Oh, should we cancel family Christmas too? Is it better without them around?

Well said! Hmm I'm trying to imagine 2500 childless parents aboard on the one ship. Nah! would not work for me.;)

  2. Here again we seem to be looking at a lack of consistency on Celebrity's part which might understandably create some confusion in the minds of passengers. While the Celebrity website does say "dinner jacket" as pointed out by BKFlowerMound, according to Ordinary Chef, the ship's daily schedule simply indicated "jacket".

Thank you!!! :D Have a great Christmas and New Year. :)

  3.

The dress code is not applied consistently, as you can see from my experience. My sport coat is not a "dinner jacket", and I know that. But it was good enough, and I looked clean cut.

Coming up on our Solstice cruise, for formal nights I will also wear the sport coat with a smart collar shirt, and a pair of trousers. I hope that I also will not have any problems.

  4. sorry but you can't post here, I am saving this spot for my friends who will be here any minute now.

Says it all really:D it can be the same in the MDR. "May we please have that table over there", "No! it's taken". BUT NO ONE TURNS UP :D

  5. Appreciate these added tips and loves from the South Island of NZ. Very helpful. Yes, looking forward to seeing the French-style town of Akaroa when we are tendered there. We'll see Milford Sound and then by doing the two-day, overnight ship excursion, we will get to do the sampling for Queenstown, Arrowtown and Lake Wanaka. Will share your tips on our roll call.

Thank's Terry, glad to help. In Wanaka there is a bakery shop in the main street opposite the lake and they sell the best pies in many varieties, I'm not sure if they are still there but someone told me they were. The hostess is a real character.

  6. Love the escargot, would have them nearly every night if I could. They do not always have them and it is replaced by Mushrooms stuffed with cheese. Looks very similar, and while it is nice, is not quite the same.:D

Will definitely cross them off my list and give them a go.

  7. I was in BLU in October on an M-class ship and we were able to order appetizers from the MDR's every day menu so we were able to get escargot daily in BLU. They appeared on the menu and were the same "every day" apps as MDR. We tried to order off the MDR entrees (not every day items) and were unable to.

It is encouraging that the waiters in BLU will accommodate guests with what they would like to order.

  8. KiwiFunCruiser--where in NZ do you live? The last cruise DH and I did together was Aust/NZ on Mercury Jan. '08. We sailed from Sydney to Melbourne and Hobart. After passing through the fjords, we stopped in Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington and Tauranga. It was a great cruise! Just wish it weren't so far away, lol.

We live in Auckland, so we don't have far to go the ship. The USA is far away as we always wanted to go there and cruise from there. Well looks like I will have to give the escargot a go.:)

  9. Like OP, I wouldn't order escargots on land either. However, a cruise ship is a great place to try new food! On Celebrity, escargots are available every night.

I had escargots on the Silhouette and they were tasty.

Great photo I saw this on your thread the other day and that was one of the reasons I decided to ask about them. Thank you.:)

  10. If you want to try them, a cruise is the place to do it. If you don't like them, you ask your waitstaff for something else. I think a cruise is a perfect place to try things you'd not try when you pay at a restaurant.

The time to experiment! I order many items I haven't tried before. Enjoy expanding your palate.....or enjoy your tried-and-true.

    Den

    Thank's Den,

Sounds good. Iv'e done the Frogs legs, Gator, Kangaroo, Snake and Ostrich mainly at show tasting venues, so I should be OK with these. I like the sound of the garlic butter.

    Have a Great Christmas.

  11. I've bought a few candy bars on board (as if I needed them but good for a snack on a tour) and didn't run into a problem. It is limited and is sold in the general-type store where they have over the counter meds and knicknacks, sundries.

I forget its name but it's usually where the t-shirts and light stuff is.

    Den

    Thanks's Den.

  12. Butterfingers are one of my favorites also. And, Peanut Butter Cups. Yum! :p

If you daughter likes Butterfingers, she will probably like the Peanutbutter Ice Cream. OMG, to die for. ;)

You might get her to try the waffles also. :) :)

Thank's Texed, I think I will try the ice cream as well and the waffles, I'm a big kid at heart. You two, have an "Awesome" Christmas.
