There is one similar to this one. Sounds like the same sort of deal.  We do private excursions a lot but this one makes us nervous.  Someone on our roll call has listed it and they are looking for 38.  Would love to hear how it all worked out.

Well, as painful as it was, I followed the FB ro  Although, the weather wasn't that great. The photos were amazing.  I was so sad to have missed it.

Do you mean a snorkelling excursion? It is not possible to do a snorkelling excursion privately at Airlie Beach as these tours do no fit in with the time you are there. They leave to early and arrive back too late.

Actually, the cruise that I was supposed to be on( Feb 25, Celebrity Edge) but had to cancel because I broke my ankle had a company come out of the woodwork and offer us a private excursion( FB group).about 2 weeks before the cruise.   I guess he realized that they didn't want to lose out on 6k.  He required 32 people and he adjusted the timing of the tour to work with the tender.  It was Red Cat adventures.  I would join your FB roll call and see if the company joins as well.

  3. @DingoMom, mine was also caused by dogs.  Slammed into from behind( while I was talking to another dog owner) at our local dog park.  I felt it, felt my leg twist behind and my ankle "pop".

The first words out of my mouth after screaming in pain were " We can't go to Australia".   My wife said " Oh, they'll just pop it back into place".  Yeah, if it were only that easy.

You had more plates/screws that I do.  I had 1 plate and 8 screws and a tightrope across the bones.   Are you planning on leaving the hardware in?

    1. On a side note, several respondents to this post have indicated they sustained the same type of injury as OP.  Curious how this sort of injury is sustained so that I can make every effort to avoid.   Sounds dreadful...not to mention extremely disruptive to the normal routine.

I watched a lot of YouTube videos on this type of injury. A lot of them occurred, falling down stairs, or biking, hiking climbing mountains, fun things I wasn’t even doing anything fun.

@calicakes, I am sorry you are missing this trip! I broke the same bones in October just days before we were going to Barcelona for several days. The Barcelona trip was the precursor for a 14-night Transatlantic. I was so bummed we couldn’t go and was frustrated to have to rely on DH for Every. Little. Thing. So, I know how you feel and I am sending you hugs and well-wishes across the miles.
I, too, feel fortunate and grateful for DH’s care, a Rock Star surgeon, great medical care, and medical (as well as trip) insurance. But it still sucked!
I am now 5 months post-op and walk like nothing ever happened. No pain. No limitations. It didn’t take five months for that, but it was a process.
One question about Allianz insurance, which is what we have: I know the limit for you was $5K, but wouldn’t that be $5K for you and $5K for DW?

I'm sorry, I would not wish this injury on my worst enemy.   I think the 5k is per policy.

I was booked via a well known agency many here use.  They charged me the $50 pp cancellation fee (which I had agreed to when booking) but in addition I was to get $400 in OBC from them.  So yes they got to retain that $400 in addition to the commission they would have normally got.

We probably used the same TA, I also had to pay 100.00 for myself and my wife.

Just out of curiosity since we are talking about fairness, I suspect that your TA was going to provide you with some sort of rebate for booking the cruise with her/him.  Is the TA still going to provide you with the same rebate even though you are not taking the cruise?  Is it fair that your TA gets a larger commission because you didn’t take the cruise?  I hope you get some sort of rebate from your TA.

They were going to give us 10 percent back in OBC.

I'm only just seeing this thread, and wanted to say that I hope your recovery goes well and that, with the help of PT, you are back to being 100% of where you were before your injury.

As someone who also had to cancel a long-planned, expensive, land trip (Amsterdam) and cruise (Norwegian fjords) at the very last minute last summer because of a very serious and sudden medical problem, I can totally sympathize with what you are feeling.  I spent the entire summer bedridden (talk about being bored!) and in great pain; my spouse had to do everything for me.  I had complex and major surgery from which I am still rehabbing.

I offer the following perspective.  I am grateful (as I am sure you are too) for my loving spouse who has taken amazing care of me throughout this horrible ordeal. I am grateful for the medical care to which I have access, and for having health insurance that covers it. I am grateful that we had travel insurance (we always do) that reimbursed us for all of our non-refundable expenses, the biggest part of which was our five-figure cruise fare.

Until I read this thread, it never even occurred to me that the cruise line should have given us loyalty points because they kept 100% of our cruise fare, given the last minute cancellation.  I'm not even thinking about that now.  I understand your perspective, and I am not posting to dispute it.  I just wanted to give my perspective as to what I think is important in my own life, having had a devastating medical problem that also caused us to cancel a major cruise at the very last minute.

Again, I wish you a full and speedy recovery, and happy travels in the future.

Yes, I'm very thankful for what I do have.  I had great medical care and was assigned a really fantastic orthopedic surgeon.  I'm also thankful I didn't have to have a cast and went right to the boot.   I started the thread to basically just vent and its turned into a whole other thing.  I almost just want to delete it.  I hope you have a speedy recovery too.

These would include: upgrade for cabin, drink package, shore excursions, port fees.  Really anything and everything you have paid except the basic cruise fare.

They did refund all excursions, but I went in and manually cancelled them.  I also received the upgraded internet refund.  Drink package was included since I booked in Oct 2022.

I took a required class in contract law in business school 15 years ago.  It was very eye opening.  Yes, some of us really

I'm a lawyer and i don't.  Its basically an adhesion contract, if you don't sign, you don't cruise.

I think OP will just get madder if they say no which is likely.

The customer does not sound very loyal to me. And they have not cruised Celebrity that much as they are not yet Elite. I don’t think they are likely to upend their policy for her.

7 cruises on X, 2 on oceania, 1 on NCL.

The cancellation policy is presented when the cruise is booked.  If one doesn't take the time to read it then one shouldn't be surprised when it is enforced.

What does the cancellation policy talk about Loyalty points, I'm not disputing the cancelation policy. All I said that I didn't think it was fair that I paid for the freaking cruise and I didn't get the points end of story

OP, I know you are unhappy but I go back to post #2.  Their loyalty program, their rules.  And there is no other cruise line that would be any different.

Yes and my title says everything " This doesn't seem fair".  That was the entire gist of my post.  and yet I'm getting told I could have done things differently, I'm entitled, blah, blah, blah.

Just wanted to say I'm so sorry.  I broke the same ankle & bones in 2020 and it was utterly miserable.  It was during the pandemic so no trip to cancel, so I can only imagine having to do that on top of dealing with the injury. Hope you heal quickly!

Thank you.  How was your recovery?  I'm hearing horror stories about people not being able to walk properly.  I'm a very active person and this is absolutely killing me right now.

I think what many here are missing is, your original post and the meat of this thread is about a Celebrity policy of not giving loyalty points for canceled cruises where they keep your payment. I agree that this seems to be an unfair policy and what does Celebrity loose by not doing this? My other surprise was that you were not already Elite since it seems like you have taken so many Celebrity cruises.

Thank you. That was my point, however, so many people think I want my money back or I want something else.  Whatever, I'm over this thread at this point.

We've taken 7 X cruises, 5 in Aqua, 1 in a suite and 1 in a veranda and still not Elite.

Agree with same responses,  but do you want some $$ back?

If so, email the executive office.  They will reply as Jim said.  Give them your booking number and give the facts of your injury along with the date of your cruise and your accident.  Just the facts.

No need to mention insurance or anything other that the upgrade that they can refund along with any excursions etc you purchased and port fees.

Last, Chase will cover $10K.  Very simple forms to send them OR bring your medical info (a short letter is fine), cruise info showing paid on Chase Card and make an appointment at your local Chase Bank.  Easiest to  do that one in person if possible.

I never even mentioned money back when I posted. All I talked about was the elite points.

Normally someone will respond with a call back regardless of how you are booked.   Sometimes I've been able to get attention that my agent wasn't able to get.    Worst situation you get no answer.

    Do you have Lisa's email?

They upgrade may be something that Celebrity may be negotiable about.   I would try writing Laura an see if she can help.

I won an upgrade 6 hours before the Covid Shut down.      They did agree to refund the amount.    The cruise was my free Zenith Cruise and they re-instated my the free cruise.

Would they even engage with me if I booked thru my TA?  My TA told me she reached out trying to get the move up offer money back to no avail.

probably, because everyone keeps pointing out the same thing over and over and over again... 3 pages of the same point.

Everyone has an opinion.  Every single thread here on CC has pages and pages of the same responses.
