  1. I had a friend recently on the Escape and was told they no longer can make the Cagney's Speakeasy because they can no longer get one of the ingredients. Has anyone else had a Speakeasy recently?, it really is may favorite drink on NCL.

I had one in January at Cagney's. I don't think it was on the menu - I ordered it because I'd read about it online. My waiter seemed unsure when I ordered it, but he came out with a drink that looked like what I was expecting. So... I ordered a Speakeasy and got a drink, but I hadn't had it before so nothing to compare to.

  2. I booked our three reservations online a while back, but the website doesn't show how many people. I booked it for 6 to include my family in the Owner's Suite, but can't see the 6 anywhere. Where do I find this on the website? Thanks.

I did the same but for 7 people. I couldn't find it anywhere on the website either so I called and they sent me an email showing all our reservations and that each was for 7 people.

(edited in case someone picks up on it - I had to reserve for 8 because 7 isn't an option on the website and I mentioned this to the person I spoke to on the phone)

  3. Thank you so much for the great post! Really enjoyed reading through the menus. Do you know if in the free dining areas there are children's menus available?

I know there's a kids menus available at O'Sheehans (other than chicken tenders with fries I can't remember exactly what's on it). I would think they probably have a similar (if not the same) menu in the MDRs as well.

  4. What about sugar free desserts at the buffet?

We sailed on the BA last month. There always seemed to be a sugar free option for dessert at the buffet, and most of the time they had a no sugar added hard ice cream flavour as well. Getting a sugar free dessert at the specialty down restaurants seemed to be a little more difficult, but they always came up with something. :) I'm not sure about the MDR because I don't think we ate dinner there at all last time.

  5. Thanks so much for writing to me. It is appreciated.

We (dad included) have decided to not have the chemo. The drs feel it will not benefit him and will just make him suffer. He will be coming home from the hospital, most likely on Friday, in the care of at home Hospice. Everything is happening so fast, it's like a bad dream.

Both my grandfather and my father were able to spend their final days at home thanks to palliative care workers who worked hard to make them comfortable and to give the rest of us the support we needed. I'm so thankful that they were able to be at home. *hugs* It won't be easy but I hope you all can find some comfort having your dad at home.

  6. My original spreadsheet lists the drink/cocktail name and ingredients which is really what the bartenders are interested in i.e. they could care less to see a picture of the drink. My spreadsheet is 3 pages long printed (landscape).

That's fantastic - thanks so much!

  7. I wear a pair of leather closed toe Keen sandals for the whole cruise. I wear them in restaurants (including Le Bistro which seems to be a little fussier) with dresses, I wear them with my swimsuit and a coverup, I wear them when we go on shore. I've worn them on the ropes course and the Behind the Scenes tour. I do wear a pair of sneakers on embarkation day (they serve as a backup in case something happens to my sandals). The only other shoes I bring are a pair of water shoes that are packed with my snorkel gear. On our first cruise I think I packed 6 pairs of shoes!

I bought my first Keen sandals (men's Newport) a few years ago at a thrift shop and I wore them *everywhere* from spring to fall. One of the straps finally let get and I bought a brand new pair this winter (again, men's Newport). Absolutely the best shoes I've ever had.

  8. I have been on numerous NCL cruises, but always on the Gem. First time this March on the Breakaway.

Quick question - is Rock of Ages like a normal evening show? Do you get to go once or can you go multiple times?

I live in NYC and I absolutely LOVED Rock of Ages and am looking forward to seeing it again... can you go more than once if you want?

    Thanks for your review BTW...

I believe you can only make reservations once, but they open up each show about 15 minutes before show time to walkins, and they don't scan your card. (They will usually scan your card before that to make sure you have reservations, but sometimes we've shown up with reservations and they were just letting everyone in) I don't think it would be a problem if you waited in the standby line if you wanted to see it more than once.

It's an amazing show and I never get tired of it. :)

  9. We had a fantastic time on this trip and I'm really enjoying your review. I'm sorry we didn't get together for a drink - maybe our paths will cross again someday on board. :)

I didn't realize Melissa got so sick - glad everything turned out alright!

The underwear thing is pretty hilarious - I'm waiting to see if you ever did find any. (I bet Mike will pack his own underwear next time around)

Your dad is in my thoughts. I can see you're a tough family after reading your story and you've already made it through so much together.

  10.

We rely on a walkup call. It is easy to set up on your cabin phone.

We just started using wakeup calls on our last cruise. So easy to do (it's an automated system). The only issue we had was the last morning when we didn't receive our wakeup call. I have a feeling the system was overworked with people setting wake up calls for disembarkation.

  11. I think this has been more or less implied from a number of previous responses, but just to be clear, you can sit down at Margaritaville (or at least at the Chill bar) and not order any food items, right?

I don't know about the tables, but you can definitely sit at the bar and just order drinks. The tables have never been busy any time we've been there (I've never seen more than three tables in use except at breakfast) so they might not have a problem with you sitting at a table and drinking without ordering food either.

  12. In the past on some of the Jewel class ships I remember them having Chips, Sour cream, and Guac and cheeses available at the main buffet, and outdoor deck area. On the Breakaway I never saw any Sour cream or Guac available, wonder if that's to push you to Margaritaville???

We saw tortilla chips and toppings in the buffet later in the evenings sometimes. (Edited to add this was on the Breakaway earlier this month)

  13. I am on the Breakaway, the price (which may be out of date) was $34.99 for mask, fins, vest, and the souvenir snorkel. Since I probably will not snorkel again, thought it made more sense to rent rather than buy.

Right now in NE, don't think I will find any snorkeling gear. :)

    thanks for your suggestions.

They have snorkel gear at Costco right now in Ontario - if you're a member they might have it in your area too. The kit didn't include a vest though. Like you said, if you don't plan on snorkelling again you may be better off renting. The thought of using a rented snorkel kind of skeezes me out but if it's a "souvenir" snorkel it's probably a new one that you get to keep.

Edited to add - you may not even get to stop at GSC depending on the weather so if that's the only place you plan on snorkelling ever it's probably best to just rent on the island.

  14. We've always dropped our carry on bags in our room on the Breakaway before heading to lunch. It gives us a chance for a very quick hello to our cabin steward and we tell him we're leaving our bags in the closet so they aren't in his way and so he knows they weren't left behind by the previous passengers. ;)

  15. Every time we travel to America or the Caribbean we look for a Margaretville. I buy a tea shirt, don't always eat there and just enjoy the vibe like a previous poster. Is the 5-Oclock bar separate ? Can you sit and chill with a drink listening to Jimmy and other Country stars ? I really hope so.

    Finns up.

    Billy.

On the Breakaway you can sit and chill at the bar (which is called Chill) with a drink - it's right beside Margaritaville. Unfortunately we didn't hear much Jimmy or any other country any time we were there earlier this month. We heard more Jimmy in O'Sheehans than we did at Margaritaville. It doesn't really have a Margaritaville vibe to be honest. That being said, the bartender was fantastic, as were the drinks. :)

  16. Earlier this month on the Breakaway the O'Sheehans specials were a seafood basket (cod, shrimp, calamari, onion rings, maybe fries), ribs, and prime rib. There may have been a couple more. We didn't try the ribs, seafood was ok (everything was deep fried), prime rib was fantastic (it was the first night). After reading this thread I hope they have chicken and waffles in March!

The hostess told us that specials are on the sea day nights.
