  1. Oh my gosh, I apologize , I am wrong. I just checked the website and it is by phone or fax only. I swear it wasn't like that a few months ago. Next time I'm so sure I'm right I'll check first.

Yeah things change, this can't be a "for better" one though. Not a big deal, just wanted to avoid one - even short - line, but if this is the worst thing, I am indeed in tall cotton. Thanks everyone for the feedback.

  2. I ordered mine on line for my October CB cruise. It was in the room waiting when I got onboard. You do save a few dollars in tax or gratuity (not sure which) if you order online. I also ordered my internet online and just had to log on and set it up when I boarded.

The order form is under gifts I believe and is VERY simple. I did not have to mail it. I believe I emailed it.

    Maureen

The form I found says to fax, mail or call, didn't find an email. This isn't worth saving $2... thanks.

  3. I was going to order one, just to avoid the crowds and to have it from day one. Took some searching on site to even find out how to do it, but you either have to call or download the form for gifts and services and then mail it?? Really.. you can book everything else online..just seems odds. I don't like having to call for something so silly, wanted to just click and go.

  4. We wear the same basic outfits every night, no matter which night it is... except for the first night. We pretty much wear whatever we're wearing that day to dinner.

I wear Dockers and a nice shirt. Usually what I've been told is called a camp shirt and I often have a Spanish-style Guayabera or two if I'm feeling a little dangerous. My wife normally wears a regular dress to dinner or dress slacks and a blouse.

I have, in the past, worn a suit at my wife's request. She will wear a nicer dress (not a ball gown) to match that. That may happen again, but never on anything less than a weeklong cruise. A 3-6 night cruise gets the standard uniform. A longer one, we will negotiate. I dress up several times a week... and I hate it. I don't need to impress people at The Geriatric Prom® or anything. It's fine for others, but I see no point in it at all.

It's too much trouble to pack that heavily. I'd rather take one or two pairs of Dockers (have them washed if they get dirty or wrinkled) and a different shirt for dinner each night. Lightweight, functional, comfortable, AND STILL VERY VERY VERY PRESENTABLE.

very apt description! reminds me high school reunions.. The occasion on board is more like a theme party.. not a true formal occasion. But each to their own, dress nicely and be done with it.

  5. None of us NEED a cruise however much we may WANT one. So I guess everyone should just send our money to a country struggling with a disaster? Princess spends millions just to make their ships look great but none of that stuff is essential. Providing captions to provide access to ship's services would cost next to nothing.

Joking aside, I promise that when I book my next cruise (hopefully next year) I will contact Access Services in advance, and talk to the Front Desk people, cruise director etc when I get on board, and make sure they understand how essential captioning is for people with serious hearing loss. I feel empowered because I know I'm not the only passenger who wants captions.

    Thanks from Joan

Yes, a simple thing that will help a lot (not a few) people. I really don't get the controversy here at all.

  6. I have used ginger with good success. I too find the pills make me lethargic at best. I do take them if it is predicted to get really rough, but I take the candied ginger and for the first day to two nibble on it.. after that I seem to find my sea legs. I do agree, that it is best to stay ahead of it, don't wait until you are feeling really sick, then it is hard to backtrack. You can also use fresh ginger grated in hot water for a ginger tea. I personally don't care much for the candied ginger or the tea... but it is so so much better than being sick that I stick with it.

  7. We took a multigenerational cruise for our youngest childs high school graduation..we choose the Caribbean because of the recreational port activities. We had an 18 year old and a 25 year old..they had a blast, because they were together. I would however suggest Carnival or RCL as ships that have more energetic activities, water slides, ice skating, rock climbing options. But if you are doing Princess I would suggest taking one of your sons friends along, will give him a comfort zone and companion.

  8. Frankly, it wouldn't bother me one bit if they turned on captions during a film. I also like the way they do captions for operas and some plays on a separate screen/area above or to the side of the stage.

My husband is hard of hearing.. these would be very helpful, even for us that aren't sometimes with fast moving dialogue or accents captions are helpful. I think it can be done so that it isn't actually imbedded in the picture.

  9. We have cruised the Nile and the Rhine, both many years ago (25+) don't remember this being such an issue as I hear now. We are looking at another River cruise after several ocean ones, prefer the longer in port, cultural aspects of the river cruises, at least as we remember them. However I would like to minimize the risk of ending up on a bus tour due to water level issues. Are some rivers more prone to these issues? I assume April and May are more flood prone, with Sept and Oct more prone to low levels? Any advice or reference sources would be appreciated. Thanks.

  10. I found a review on trip advisor, but haven't seen anything about this place on CC. Was wondering if anyone has been. Early February will be our first trip to Roatan and we are considering going here as we have physical limitations on water activities. If not any other recommendations? Thanks!

  11. We are heading out in Feb. older, but somewhat fit, want to see these ruins, not sure if the river tour is worth it? which is more informative city tour or river ride?Have heard the river tour is long and can be very hot and no shade? We will be using the Princess excursion due to the tendering and time issues. Any experiences? any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

  12. Copycat medications are a huge problem worldwide, has even been caught in some US hospitals. I would really doubt the validity of these meds and would only try them if desperate for an immediate need. Maybe too cautious, but having lived in the Middle East and known folks who got very ill using medications that were an exact looking copycat I would be careful. Just my opinion and experience.

  13. Thank you for taking time to answer my questions in such detail. Those are really good points to ponder. I will look at your trip in the Med. We did take them 5 years ago to both Rome (10days) and Amsterdam (7 days), so that might be a happy medium as you say. I will ask them if they are more into the sights or the relaxation thing at this point as well.:)

On a side note, love that you travel so much and share that with all of us here.

  14. I just came across this thoughtful and informative thread. Thank you. We are trying to decide on a family trip for next year. We did a caribbean cruise with my two kiddos 4 years ago for high school graduation. We are now contemplating a southern Caribbean cruise or a European River cruise for college graduation. They are both (22 and 28) interested in history and culture, but also love water sports and are adventurous eaters. I am glad to see someone younger evaluating these trips as the impression is that river cruising is definitely the 55+ set now. My husband and I did two river cruises years ago in our early 30's (Nile and Rhine) loved them but know they are different now. Any advice? or thoughts? I know we are looking at two vastly different experiences. Thanks.
