  1. Port Canaveral is 45 min from the port. For me Orlando/Disney is an option. But i like the area where the ship is. Cocoa beach area is fun and i like RonJons. Space center if you havent been before. Party boat fishing . Jetty park watch ships go in and out from the beach. If u have auto , quick trip to Daytona beach could create bragging options.

    Good post.

For watching ships, we like to eat clam chowder and drink beer at Grills.

  2. I don't recommend using a TA- it is soooooo simple to do yourself on line and on phone. My experience with TA's is it is hard to get out of the original price. Best of luck.

We've actually had the opposite experience with using a TA. We always use our TA. She always keeps abreast of pricing as well and always keeps track of her customer's cruises for price reductions etc. Prices are always as low as RCI and then we get an on-board gift from the TA as well. I guess it all depends on the quality of your TA. I can't speak for on-line TA's. I would think they would be a little more impersonal.

Another thing a good TA can do for you is to shop for your travel insurance and other things like lodging, transportation etc. that RCI might be limited to help you with.

  3. You could also visit the Kennedy Space Center near the cruise port. Very interesting but probably only a one day event.

Maybe the first two nights in Orlando area for Epcot then a night in Cocoa Beach near the cruise port so you'll be close to the ship on the final morning?

  4. We also rented a tux for our then-14 year old son and had no problems.

I took him to a formal wear shop to get his 'official' measurements taken; they were great about doing that for me when I explained it was for a cruise rental. I used those measurements to place the order on-line...even ordered shoes!

The tux was waiting in the stateroom on boarding day. Make sure you have your son try the tux on early, before sail away, because if there is a fit issue they can take care of it before the ship leaves much easier than once underway.

It included two shirts, one for each formal night. It was so nice not to worry about packing one! Just left it in the stateroom the morning we left.

If you rent the shoes, remember to pack dress socks!

I agree about trying it on the first chance you get. My brother rented one that didn't fit and when he tried to exchange it later, they didn't have one available that fit correctly.

  5. We frequently arrive a day early and sometimes stay an extra day at the end. If we take a flight the same day we arrive in port from the cruise, we usually take a late flight. Too much stress for us if there are delays. We almost missed a flight out of PR in the 90's due to delays with disembarkation. Very stressful and an awful way to end an other-wise great vacation.

  6. Am slightly puzzled why people repeated sail the same itinerary (more or less). Is there no interest in seeing new places? I realize that there are individuals who just like to cruise for the sheer relaxation....someone cooks for you...another picks up after you, and there is always something to do at night. I like to think of a cruise as an extremely comfortable way to go new places and explore different parts of the world. I guess it takes all of us to make it work out :)

I think you answered your own question. For us, it's both. We like to visit new places, and do. But we also repeat itineraries exactly for the reasons you stated.

We stay on the ship a lot for repeated itineraries. If docked, we might walk off and do a little shopping and then back on to enjoy the ship. For places we haven't been, we will always explore and take excursions etc...

  7. Hello All,

We are setting sail on the Anthem tomorrow. I just checked and our check in time is 12. However we had planned to get to the cruise terminal around 11, will this be a problem? Will we have to wait until 12 before we check in? Also I am trying to figure out exactly what address to put into my gps, is Cape Liberty Cruise Terminal good enough?

    Thanks!

    Jon

The earlier the better as far as I'm concerned. Getting there earlier than the suggested time is no problem.

  8. Has anyone ever called RC and been able to book a stateroom in a sold out category? Currently looking at a cruise in January where all balcony cabins are sold out and wondering if I should try my luck in calling to see if anything is available

What can it hurt to call and give it a try?

    dasania41,

If you do call, it would be interesting to hear back from you.

    Thanks

  9. Are you allowed to simply pour the ashes out? If so, that would eliminate the need for the biodegradable urn. My parents ashes were spread in a lake in MN. We poured my fathers ashes out of a fishing tackle box at the location on the lake where he enjoyed fishing. When my mother died the following year, we spread her ashes in the same place.

  10. We prefer the hump.

We only tried an aft cabin once though on the Serenade and the down sides for us were the long walk and the vibration we felt from the screws turning in the water. The extra balcony space (in our case because we weren't in the corner) didn't really do anything because it was simply longer, not wider. One additional item to consider is people dropping things from the upper balconies if you are on a lower deck. Because of the slope toward the front of the ship, the upper balconies (and other venues on the ship) can look down onto your balcony if you sit out from under the overhead. When we were sitting on the balcony one day, one of our table mates from the MDR saw us from up above and yelled down to us. That may or may not be an issue for you.

  11.

By "the ship's newspaper" if you mean the one with ship activities etc I thought every ship had it placed on your bed at turndown. That has been our experience on every cruise line we've sailed: NCL, HAL, Oceania, RCI, Carnival.

Not the same. Back in the day before extensive WIFI, Cell Phones, and satellite TV. they used to print a shipboard "newspaper" with the current headlines from various news sources (AP, Reuters etc..) It was only one or two pages long but it kept you abreast of major happenings. I think we only got them on our first cruise in 1996. We never saw it after that.
