  1. I was diagnosed at 22 and I felt really alone too. Most then we're either little kids or older adults with Type 2. If you can find a copy of the book Diabetes Without Fear, it was a big help in my acceptance and there for dealing/managing my new normal.

  2. It isn't just fruity drinks he needs to be careful with drinking. It is alcohol in general.

When the alcohol hits the body, the already malfunctioning liver in a diabetic switches to just detoxing the alcohol (as it also does in a non-diabetic) and doesn't do it's already impaired job of helping regulate blood sugar.

Once the alcohol is handles, bang! the blood sugar level is addressed which is what causes the temporary lowering of the blood sugar.

Any diabetic should be very careful with drinking alcohol and monitor their blood glucose levels if indulging.

I 100% agree that alcohol affects everyone's body differently, and this includes diabetics. I also agree that diabetics should be very careful eating or drinking anything they are not used to.

However, it is NOT true that a diabetic's liver is malfunctioning. The pancreas, or more specifically, the islet cells are the only "malfunctioning" part of a type i diabetics body. Other than not producing insulin, type i diabetics can be more healthy than their non-diabetic counterparts because they pay more attention to their diet, exercise and overall health.

  3. I am a Type I diabetic (diagnosed at 22). As he learns to adjust his diet, he will discover that sometimes Sugar Free desserts will still be high in carbs and require medication as well. Tell him to try sugar free foods/desserts before the cruise. I personally have bad stomach issues with some alternative sweeteners. If he likes Pina Coladas, he may like something I have at times. Sparkling water with coconut rum and lime.

  4. We will be on this cruise June 25th. We are doing a Zip Line and Beach Break in Roatan with Roatan Ocean Adventures. In Belize, we are doing the Sharks and Rays excursion through Carnival. The last time we were in Belize a lot of excursions were late, and since it is a tender port, I feel safer using Carnival there.

  5. That does not seem fair, since they won't actually be doing anything for my grandson. His mother and I take care of all of his needs. He may say hello to a crew member, but he won't be asking them for anything, they won't be serving any of his needs, I or his mother will.

I understand how it might should be less than adult gratuities, but the breakdown for the gratuities are as follows.

    • $3,70 Cabin Services (cabin stewards)
    • $5,80 (MDR) Main Dining Room Services (wait staff)
    • $2,00 Alternative Services (kitchen, entertainment, passenger services, other hotel staff members)

Your grandson will still be eating, and using towels and activities onboard. This is the way these employees are paid, and you are always welcome to adjust the gratuities as well.

  6. Roatan, BayIslands, Honduras

    Harvest Caye, Belize

    Costa Maya, Mexico

    Cozumel, Mexico

Look up Nachi Cocum in Cozumel. All inlcusive at a decent price with nice beach and pool. Short cab ride, great time.

In Roatan, look up Little French Key, wonderful little island. A little bit of a drive, but great, beautiful beach.

I've been to Belize once and we are going again this summer, Belize is one place I like to use the ship's excursion, and we are trying a snorkeling tour this time, but unless its fantastic, I'll probably stay on the boat if we ever go back.

Costa Maya is a cruise port. You can get out and walk around for nothing. There's a restaurant with a pool that you can hang out at for free, or if you order something I think.

  7. The Wyndham on Royal is a great location. One block off Bourbon and one block from the street car route. Reasonable prices. They usually have a park and ride where if you stay one night you can leave the car there for the whole cruise. Unfortunately, there is a festival before and after our cruise this year, so not sure what we are going to do LOL

  8. Everywhere he went, there seemed to be an electric buzz of energy, and throughout the cruise we found that no one was immune.

I had to go check and unfortunately he leaves a couple of weeks before our cruise :loudcry:

    Congratulations on the engagment!

  9. From what I can tell, the two different Carnival shark/ray excursions are slightly different. One has snorkeling and goes to Los Olas for lunch, the other doesn't have snorkeling but goes to the Lazy Lizard at the split.
