  1. The Summit just went through dry dock last May or June I believe. Their suites were updated and it was given good refreshining (yes, I just made that up). We were on it in August and it was great. It was very clean and I didn't feel anything looked dated or dirty. Its and old ship (2001) but Celebrity has done a good job keeping up with all the changes and updates of other ships.

It was actually in Drydock Feb 2016 where they added the Rooftop terrace. It is an older ship but they do maintain it well. Have sailed it 3 times with the last being in December. Love the ship and the staff. It's currently having engine issues this spring and some sailings in April have been cancelled/shortened to fix the problem.

  2. It's not a ship tour but San Juan is very easy to do on your own and you will have control of when you get back since the ship is right there in Old San Juan. Easy to get off and walk up to the forts. Your son would probably enjoy that (my nieces loved the forts) They close at 6 pm so then you can walk the streets of Old San Juan and have plenty of time to get back to the ship (assuming w/ that itinerary you get in at 3:30 and leave at 10pm or so)

  3. Just off 2 weeks ago. Loved it. The service was excellent. Can't believe the bar staff remembered my name but they did. And no I didn't send too much time there. After 1 visit in the 1st day @ the sunset bar in the afternoon Sarawuth knew my name & drink. By the end of the week he didn't ask for my card as he "knew my number" & if I forgot to order an Evian w/ my drink he asked.

  4. Thanks a million for your compassion on this. I'm shocked the man is still in the decent health he's in but retirement has not served him well (no pun intended). We're hoping to show the in-laws a good time, regardless. I wonder if the mini-bar in the room can be stocked and applied to the drinks pass as well. First time on RCCL & also dealing w/ a drinks package so not sure how it all works. Not trying to "cheat" the system...just have to make sure within limits of their finances, the man can be level.

Minibar isn't included in the drinks package. Depending on his drink of choice maybe ask for the minibar to be emptied (I do this for water & pop) then possibly get some drinks w/o ice or shots and store them in his room for his late night needs. I don't know about RCCL but on Celebrity you can get cans of pop or beer unopened to store in the fridge/minibar

  5. Just got off over 2 weeks ago. Make sure to go to the Sunset bar. Sarawuth (Sara) was excellent and I never wanted for anything. Sometimes he would just see me walk in and the next thing I knew my drink of choice was next to me. Or if I forgot to order my bottle of Evain w/ my drink he would remember. Excellent service! If you see him tell him Sonya says HI

  6. I was on the Silhouette just over a week ago and saw a man in the MDR on Evening Chic night in a Hollister T-shirt. Didn't bother me but did surprise me a bit that he was allowed in based on the dress code. The majority of people we saw were dressed very nice at all times and did see some Tuxes and long evening gowns on Chic night.

  7. Speaking of Potty Lecturers, I came across this pic, it's me on The Johnny from The Norwegian Sun, taken many Moons ago. (Now there is a play on words......) This is the standard balcony BA cabin's "facilities". No one has ever done a "Potty" review, I think it would be rather kooky and funny. I would never get away with it. I have too much of a Potty mouth and double entendre moments............

JW, you had me hooked on you & Jerome after your Reflection review that was cut short. You keep this up & I'll be forced to go on the December sailing of the Silhouette just to meet you. After this March on their & the "gaybee" you'll get the term (no offense to anyone else reading, you had to read JW's Reflection review to understand) we'll be best friends if we ever met.

  8. On the Uber question the driver just has to have a driver license. Have Uber to my last 2 cruises at Ft Lauderdale.

Idk but saw some doing a U-turn cuz they couldn't get thru. You'd think an Uber driver would have his license w/ him @ all times while driving. I believe they also need a waybill but not all drivers may know that or have it on hand.

  9. Was on just over a week ago. We arrived about 10:30/45 and were able to walk right on however we had priority embarktion. Others you could see had to sit in a waiting are but not sure for how long.

One note on the Uber, not all of them have the proper license to enter the port. We took a taxi and he explained that he had to show his license every time he entered the port (we had to show our drivers license as well). We witnessed a few cars that had to make a u-turn and go back since they didn't have the proper documents to enter the port.

  10. I think Captain Kate will not be back for April. From her instagram posts I think Capt. Alex took over around mid-January (which tracks with our cruise last year where she turned command over to him something like 1/7 or 1/8, 2016). Capt. Alex is awesome, "the voice from above" and you can't go wrong with either of them. :)

Capt. Alex took over and Capt. Kate left on the first day of my sailing in December which was December 10th so she may be back. I believe they have 3 months off but could be mistaken.

  11. I am 4 weeks out. I would print them but I do not have a color printer. Just concerned that my baggage will be lost if they place one on the baggage at the port (happened to me in the past where I had to go claim my luggage since it never showed up in my room. The guy in the port put the wrong name and cabin number on the bag.)

Go online or call the captain's club and request them be sent to you. I ordered mine on a Thursday and had them in my mailbox the following Tuesday. You should have plenty of time if you are 4 weeks out to receive them in the mail.

  12. I love the Summit and have been on her 3 time, last time being this past December. I've not done an interior but did do an Oceanview and was fine. With it being so port intensive I wasn't in the room that long. You may want to consider choosing an Oceanview vs. and Interior since you receive perks w/ and Oceanview where you don't with an Interior. Depending on if you are drinkers or not you can get the beverage package which would help w/ your onboard spend. Also I think if you book right now you can pick 2 perks so possibly OBC that would help w/ gratuities and possibly shore excursions if you choose to do a ship one.

  13. Sorry you encountered that. I was on the Summit in early December and had an opposite experience. That was in fact my 3 time on the ship since I love it and and the ports. I'm 43 and there were plenty of people on board my age or younger or slightly older. While I've not gone to any of the shows there were plenty of other things to keep you occupied in the evenings. The Silent Disco was great in December. Also spent most nights up in Revelations dancing until 2 am. I never noticed any difference between room categories other than I wasn't dining in Blu or Luminae, no one ever asked or cared what type of cabin I was in. While you can't do anything in regards to the other passengers I've usually encountered very nice people. For me it's the staff that and their attitude which is nothing but pleasant that will also keep me coming back.
