  1. I forgot to mention the wreaths on the Mauritania Memorial were laid by Cunard and the ship in memory. A very dignified moment.
  2. Well here we are, last port of call. A very warm welcome from the people of Cobh who had put on plenty of entertainment for those of us who stayed in town. I enjoyed a fine walk following the map kindly offered by the Tourist Board on our disembarkation this morning and was well rewarded by pretty gardens, a fine museum and a lovely Cathedral. After the walk I treated myself to some lunch and a pint of Guinness, followed by an hour in the Mauritania bar who had laid on some live music. The two musicians were young lads with a piano accordion and guitar and they were very good, working the crowd well. Having had the Guinness with lunch i was persuaded by the bar lady that I should try a pint of Murphys. I have to say I much preferred the latter to the Guinness! We were lucky in that an army band was playing in Kennedy Park at the bandstand. Excellent musicians playing arrangements of not only Irish classics but Bacharact and Lloyd Weber amongst others. The park was packed with not only tourists but locals and a large group of school children. It was most enjoyable to just sit and listen while eating my gelato. The weather was dry and at one point we even enjoyed a splash of sunshine. Overall the weather was kind, although it did get cold later in the day. It has been a most enjoyable day and I'm glad I abandoned my original plan to catch the train to Cork city as Cobh offered a lovely small town with an atmosphere that was hugely welcoming. A great way to end our calls around the British Isles.
  3. There are only midships insides left between decks 14 and 10. Anyone looking at these will be allocated one of these as an early saver presumably as the area is the only one which comes up if you try a saver fare. Select is nearly £1,000 dearer with £230 OBC so a poor deal in my opinion.
  4. I can confirm there has been availability every day in all of the speciality restaurants on this voyage. There is currently availability for all of them for the last two remaining days, although most times available are 7.00pm through 8.30pm. Sir Samuel's lunch tomorrow is also still available.
  5. Yes, across the board most Select fares have risen. The cruises in the next six months are beginning to see the "normal" adjustments, ie Select fares rising or stable dependent on how they're selling and savers dropping. I'm following an October Med cruise - 5th with Gary Barlow onboard. The Saver dropped this morning to below £1,000. I would expect possibly one more drop by about another £100pp and that will be the bottom line. The change on prices on the big two are very predictable!
  6. It always happens, particularly when a promotion ends. It's the Carnival way!
  7. A note to those interested in this cruise. As part of my monitoring on late bargains (separate thread), I note that this cruise undertook price movement overnight and the inside Saver fare is now £5,258.
  8. Today is the first after the end of the promotion which has been running for some time and also the 8th day after final payment for my August Aurora cruise. As expected we have movement ... Inside Saver £2598 Select £2998 + £100 OBC Outside Saver £2858 Select £3578 + £120 OBC Balcony £3998 Select £4858 + £130 OBC Deluxe Balcony £4998 Select £5558 + £130 OBC Mini Suite £10,038 + £280 OBC Full suites are now sold out - there had been two aft available yesterday. Therefore my current upgrade offer to move to balcony from outside is a total of £4798, so £60 below the on sale price today. Our OBC is £340. Based on my BIL's inside Lido deck day 1 booking the Saver fare today is £600 cheaper than he is paying. I expect a new promotion in a day or two and no doubt there will be another price change regarding OBC at that time.
  9. Yes, I enjoyed Fizz as well and agree the Bright Lights are very good. I was unaware that the actors etc are not Cunard employees and are a third party with a four year contract. The US travel agent on my dinner table directed me to this: https://www.seatrade-cruise.com/entertainment/ted-manage-immersive-bright-lights-society-venue-queen-anne Several.of my dinner companions went back to see if they could get in for Pride and Prejudice again at 10.15pm. It seemed very popular so as you say everyone has different opinions.
  10. My booking is direct with P&O so I would have expected the final confirmation to show 1 to 1. I will consider my options. Thanks.
  11. On general waiting staff issues, overall the ones we have in Britannia are okay, and that's about it. They forget things that people order, mix up breakfast drinks orders and most annoyingly will lean across you when delivering/removing plates. I assume that many are fairly new but you really do notice it when you get an old school one. The day after I returned my steak as virtually uneatable, I ordered the roast beef and the waiter queried whether this was wise in light of my difficulties the night before. As my dining neighbour said, so it's you who was wrong not the steak! However I noticed at tea this afternoon that the waiters being used in the Queen's Room appear to be a selection of the very best as the service ran like clockwork.
  12. You'll note I mentioned Corona not any of the others. As I said I will not go in a Wetherspoons unless it is absolutely necessary. The only one I frequented was in Holborn when I worked there, last visited 14 years ago. Personally I find them characterless. This article (repeated in several other newspapers when they put their prices up)is what caused the stir in the local paper. Our local Fullers pub just got painted and their new menu increased prices, the attsched is an old list I'd downloaded late last year. They're one of the cheaper pubs in the area though. https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/uks-most-expensive-wetherspoons-pint-32635995 Ox-Row-Inn-Drinks-List-Sept-2023.pdf
  13. I never darken the doorway of Wetherspoons and the prices I gave are for decent pubs and restaurants. I am however aware of the Wetherspoons pricing because our local branch made the national news when it was named as one of the most expensive ones in the country. Coming in top was one in Leicester Square, London where a pint of Corona costs £6.98. Wetherspoons are not all cheap as chips and a lot of P&O customers do actually use them and naturally compare the prices with their normal haunts.
  14. So your original confirmation did not show it? Without dragging back through this thread I have two bookings, one showing one to one, the other not. I completed the same form on booking for both but for the one that did not have one to one at the point of booking submitted a second form amending our request to match the first one. No new confirmation has been received for that second one, only the cruise personaliser has noted the form date of submission. The first booked cruise is Ddcember 2024 the second one is August 2024. I've just recently paid my balance and just checked my confirmation after reading your comment. It does not show one to one. So now do I rock the boat and contact them when I get home on Friday or do I chance it with the screenshot and print out of the form? I cannot help but think of the OP back in early May with his second form submission.
  15. I am aware you were answering a new poster and was simply pointing out to anyone joining the discussion late that someone who completed the form has been denied despite completing the form, in that case not once but twice.
  16. Well just seen the Cunard premiere of Pride & Prejudice (sort of) and what a delight it was! We have a surprise understudy due to illness and tonight's performances will also star the author Isobel McArthur. What a treat, to anyone onboard who hasn't seen the early performance you're in for a treat.
  17. That appears regardless of any acknowledgement. It goes on the reservation at day 1 but the closest they come to acknowledgement of your completing the form is in your cruise personalised where it states form submitted X date.
  18. The average pint of lager where I live is £6.50 and one local newly renovated pub is charging £7.00. Even Weatherspoons is just under £6 by a few pence. Our local social club is £5.75 a pint. It's no wonder with the prices being discussed here the government spokesman when mentions the average price of a pint in terms I think he's in cloud cuckoo land!
  19. Cunard did for quite a while ...
  20. Selbourne the OP of this thread HAD completed his Questionnaire, received no reply so resubmitted it to then be denied. He was not a full time user of a chair so was not denied boarding but the fact remains his form was not acknowledged or actioned. P&O need to acknowledge these submitted forms by more than the note on your personaliser stating formsubmitted on X date as that does not confirm they have actioned the request for assistance.
  21. I didn't stay long enough to find out!
  22. I was on deck 9 enjoying some peace and quiet enjoying the fresh air despite the stiff breeze and decided or the first time this voyage I to have afternoon tea as it's the tea dance with the Orchestra. Imagine my surprise when the lift doors opened on deck 8 to reveal ... the covid twins smiling happily. No they didn't join me but I did see them wander in here shortly after me.
  23. I am not in any way surprised. I once met her in London after she had an encounter with a bus driver who closed the doors after she'd run for it. She spent 10 minutes turning the air blue at the audacity of him not opening the doors for her and I did get the impression of "don't you know who I am". I did however enjoy the talk, although there was an air to the first part of me, me, me.
  24. I sat at a table of 6 for breakfast, all complaining. Sat through two talks in the theatre, two different people sat next to me, both unhappy with the Godparent and telling me this isn't a real Chnard ship. Well the outside paint job and the Cunard name emblazoned on her seems to indicate they may just be a little misguided in their belief ... Even queuing to buy Celia Imrie's book someone announced we'll.no doubt she has to earn her goodie bag. Goodness me, perhaps the late night has made them so grumpy but really ...
  25. We have the meal this evening which is to be based on British food. Hopefully it will be very good. One of the gripes today is that the guests in the seated area all left with a Queen Anne goodie bag. The passengers had a copy of the souvenir programme but nothing to mark the occasion apart from this. The remainder of upset revolves around no Royal and the five ladies who operated the switch. I find both very amusing but particularly the grumble about.no gift. Clearly the Liverpool naming was intended to be a marketing campaign as much as anything else. It would be hard for me to complain due to.my bargain basement fare but really and truly yesterday is not something to have a major problem with.
