  1. It IS in a quiet location with lovely views of the water.   It was walkable to several nice restaurants.  We used a delightful Tours by Locals guide, Judith Hagen,  and she used public transportation which was accessible with a sort walk.

  2. Often Bow ties don’t show up until close to sailing.   Makes it tricky to make dinner reservations 120 days out.   Days when tours run late into the afternoon seem to seldom be a Formal night, if that guides you at all.  Sea days MIGHT have a  Formal night.

  3. If you are heading to San Juan to board on Monday, Sunday (tomorrow) a festival continues in Old San Juan.  We were to stay in Old San Juan tomorrow night.  Our car service just called to tell us there was no way they could deliver us to the hotel - streets are not passable for vehicles, and are totally full of walkers.   They had to divert many of their deliveries today and have them complete their arrival to the hotel on foot with luggage.   We just cancelled our room, and rescheduled out of Old San Juan.  Our Transfer company told us not to try for any other hotel in Old San Juan near the Dawn as we would have to walk.    We are grateful for his call.  Hope you find this helpful if you have Old San Juan hotel reservations and want a car to deliver you to the door!

  4. UKCruise Jeff, I will also miss your always thoughtful posts.   I thought that I had saved your dough recipe, and am unable to find it, although I think you have modified it since I did try to save it.   Would you be willing to share your latest recipe?   The cooler weather and your wonderful pics of bagels and baguettes are tempting me!

  5. We recently spent 3 nights at the Reykjavik Konsolat Hilton in the older part of the city.   The famous hotdog stand is next door.   There were many nice restaurants within walking distance, and the included breakfast at the hotel was very good.    The room and bath were both excellent, and the staff was very pleasant and helpful.   We would highly recommend it for both location and pleasant accommodations.

  6. Will Work for Tiramisu - I LOVE this story, especially since I know those areas well.   We now live in Erie, frequented North East all of our lives, and grew up in Ripley and Westfield, NY.    I would LOVE to know who the members of the local group were!   If you’re willing to share, would you email me at msinden24atgmail.com?

  7. I just accepted that my TA would have mentioned a full refund if available.   I was guessing that so few days ahead of travel, that option was probably not available since under normal conditions I would have had no refund .   I was happy with an FCC because we are looking at other cruises.

  8. Hoping some of you who are considering what do to about an upcoming cruise will find this helpful!

We were due to sail 1/14 on the Spirit.   The latest CDC “advice”, combined with my husband’s recent medical treatment, forced us to reconsider this afternoon.  Our TA was wonderful, immediately calling Silversea.  We had the option to move our booking to another, paying any difference in price, or to cancel and receive a Future Cruise Credit, good for 2 years.   The SS rep told our TA that this does not follow the December, 2021 cancellation policy published, but is the plan to deal with COVID related cancellations by guests.   While I have not seen the FCC yet, I am confident that once the holiday weekend is over we will have documentation.

  9. Just received this email from MedJet Assist this morning.

MEDJET GOES GLOBAL WITH COVID-19 TRANSPORT BENEFIT
    As of 07/12/2021

    Dear Medjet Member,

Medjet was the first to implement the air-medical transport membership concept in the United States in 1991 and still today brings the highest level of service and detail to our members in their times of need.

We were also the first to add transport benefits for Covid-19. While initially transport of hospitalized Covid-19 patients was only possible for travel in limited destinations, we are pleased to inform you that:

As of July 12, 2021, Medjet is now transporting members hospitalized with Covid-19, while traveling GLOBALLY (as well as domestically), to a hospital of their choice at home.

This expanded benefit is at no additional cost to our members, and is applicable to both existing and new MedjetAssist and MedjetHorizon memberships.

We understand that many of you are looking to travel internationally, which is why we are happy to expand this offering.

I applied in 2019, my interview was scheduled 10 months later then canceled because of Covid-19, now I am unable to reschedule, and I keep getting emails telling me "instead of scheduling an interview, I can just get an interview the next time I return from travel overseas", well that isn't much help since travel overseas is essentially banned.  Hopefully when travel is again permitted they won't tell me that my application has expired because I didn't do an interview!

We applied in the summer of 2019.   I received the authorization to schedule an appointment, but my husband was not approved until the end of 2020.   We do have appointments scheduled for May, (could have had them sooner, but May fits with our schedule.).  Now, on the website, I have 500+ days to complete the interview, my husband has 700+ days.   I wouln’t worry about the application expiring yet.

  11. Our friends also had the compromised card problem, but Silversea did not have their new number.   They finally received a refund via transfer into their checking account.  Although our refund was slowed by the compromised card issue, I think the fact that at the time of cancellation my TA notified them of the card issue, and that they already had the new card number in their system Resulted in finally getting the refund on the new number.

  12. Our refund finally arrived..... after 89 days.    The credit card we had booked the cruise on had been compromised and replaced, so the current number is different.   However, when cancelling, SS was notified of that, AND they had the new card number in their system from another booking.    Perhaps that slowed the process down.   Happily, the return is here, and we are hoping to be onboard July, 2021.

  13. Lois,

I am glad you seem to be healing well.   I had recent surgery with a plastic surgeon.  She strongly recommends using coconut oil on the healing incision and surrounding area.  It’s usually available in the baking area or natural foods area at the supermarket, and looks a lot like Crisco.  She says it is much better than Vitamin E because after a while the Vitamin E oil can irate the skin and cause redness.   My incision is healing nicely, and seems to me to be healing more quickly than I would have expected.

Hope your last days before retirement go quickly, and that you enjoy the holiday season.
