There just isn't anything in the documents anywhere, so I thought I'd ask here. I'll call Uniworld. Thanks,

Hi, excited first time river cruisers sailing Uniworld Castles of the Rhine in a couple of weeks. We've purchased the Amsterdam 3-day PRE-extension from Uniworld that says all transfers are included. Will a rep meet us at the airport to transfer to hotel when we arrive at 6:25 am? Nothing in the documents about this. Thanks for any insight!

Sawtooth,
Which sailing are you on? We are on the June 17th Amsterdam to Basel Castles along the Rhine with Uniworld.

Hi, I'm following this thread because I too, have a Tracfone which will not work internationally. Thanks to everyone who responded - we all appreciate the information here. I'm just a little worried about the per-call cost of Mobal - 99 cents per minute in Germany seems pretty steep!

Thank you for this detailed review. As a river cruise newbie, you made your adventure come to life! We felt like we were on the ship with you, eating gelato and making friends. Thanks again for taking the time to include all of us.

I can read this. Thanks so much for doing this.

Thanks, Robin. I can make out some of the photo, but when I blow it up enough to read, it gets blurry.
I didn't know smoking was allowed behind the L'Orangie, I thought it was just all the way aft. Thanks for clarifying.

Robin and Suite Traveler,
Thank you so much for your informative posts! Being new to river cruising, I am lapping up anything I can find out.
Robin, did you have Wifi issues at the back of the ship? You'd think they would have a repeater or a booster in the back, but we're not slaves to wifi, either. No mobility issues, so a bit of a walk will do us good, I'm sure!
Suite Traveler, thanks for the detailed description of the ship and the optional tours. I have been looking for just that information. I, too, am allergy-prone, so your info is much appreciated.
Could I bother you with another smoke-related question? I understand smoking is only allowed on the aft of the sun deck, and no other place on the ship. Is this strictly enforced? When they close the leopard bar, where do the smokers go to light up? We've had balcony experiences ruined by smokers in the past, so I am a bit concerned. I don't want to bring it up on the main board, as it is such a polarizing subject.
Again, thank you both for answering my newbie questions!

Robin, thanks again for the clarification. Being next to the spa might be a plus (quiet at night), and we are early risers. One flight up to the bar and the juice bar might be interesting. Did you ever visit that?

The majority of Castles will be on the side of the odd numbered cabins, going that direction.
Robin
Hi Robin, thanks for the info. For clarity, we will be on the SS Antoinette, looking hard at cabin 431. The Uniworld catalog shows the "odd" numbered cabins on the starboard side, which is opposite from other Uniworld super ships. Can you confirm this advice is for the Antoinette?

For those who have sailed the Rhine - We are about to book Uniworld's Castles Along the Rhine for 2018 - our first river cruise. We will be sailing from Amsterdam to Basal. Going in this direction, is there a preferred side of the ship for a balcony cabin? We realize we will probably be up on the sun deck for most of this, but are the majority of the castles on the east or west side?
Thank you for any advice!

Thanks, Mike, for the answer. I'll just have to be patient a bit longer.... waiting... waiting...

Thanks so much for the information. I'll wait patiently... or not...

Hi,
Can one of you knowledgeable people tell me when the fall of 2018 itineraries might be published? Thank you,

Can one of you nice people tell me approximately when the fall of 2018 Canada/New England itineraries might be published? Thank you

I thought they'd named all their ships: Star, Sky, Sun, Sea. That's all they have named on their website anyway, and if it's going to be sailing in 2018, it should already have a name, don't you think? It's a mystery!

I'll check with my VO TA but couldn't that be the Viking Sun? Could you provide a link for where you saw that, I might be able to guess based on the context.
Here's the page. If you click on the July 14 or July 28 "View Details", you will see the OSU.

I'm looking at the Viking Oceans 2018 calendar on their website. Some of the dates in July 2018 show the ship as "OSU". It shows deck plans, but no pricing by category on these dates. Can somebody help with what this means? I'm presuming it means "no ship has been assigned" (or maybe built) yet, but I'm not sure.
Thanks,
Brenda
Uniworld Pre-Amsterdam: Where to meet rep?
in River Cruising

Hi all, thanks for the advice! My TA contacted Uniworld, who said their rep will be in the baggage claim area to greet us, at whatever time, since everything is booked through them. Good tip about the Uniworld luggage tags. We were wondering about them.
