I know its ot but OBIT: Marian Wood Meyer, an ‘institution’ at Brooklyn 33rd Council District, dies at 74 | Brooklyn Daily EagleI suspect you're talking about the layout years ago before the cruise terminal was remodeled, or you're mixing and matching the description of where the street level rest rooms are and those on the main level. Please correct me if your experience is from a fairly recent cruise. -
Its been a long time since I posted on these boards...but its been a busy time with 5 grandkids. Marian died peacefully last week after a short hospitalization.

It's been a while since I have posted and traveled on ncl but will they allow cases of water a board?

Propriatary ATM's (such as those on ships, 7-11's and retail places generally) invariably charge more than bank linked ones: usually $5 or more vs. the standard $3+/-. And many card issuers (my UBS for example) have no charge and refund up to $3 of other bank's fee.
7-11 now uses citibank in most states for its atm's. the price is the same as a non citibank user at its banks...or if you have a citibank card its free.

Not everyone drives, so not everyone has a drivers license. A passport would be just fine.
NY and most states issue a non driver's id. Its available in NY as an enhanced id acceptable at border crossing but not international air.

while promenade is a reputable car service its also among the most expensive.I use Arecibo which is about a third less. see http://www.arecibocc.com
about $40 from the bct to lga. about $75 to ewr.
your can also use uber-for tch savy users only- which non-surge pricing is reasonable.
there will also be yellow cabs and outerboro green taxis which will be metered. to lga also about $40. to ewr which they are required to go it should be 75-90 or so. will there be enough? more now than green cabs are available.
also the cruise terminal has for hire limos available generally for twice what a cab charges,,,but nicer cars.

Unless they picked up Red Hook and moved it recently, the waterfront neighborhood remains adjacent to toney Carroll Gardens. And it's less than 1.5 miles from the passenger terminal to even tonier Brooklyn Heights.
On a sorta related topic, the NJ port(s?) should not be discounted since that state's legislature may be contemplating a big improvement project to coincide with the recently proposed state name change to.....
.......New "Improved" Jersey :-)
LOL its always been in Red Hook. Its south and west of the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel and the BQE. Its not far from Carroll Gardens but the entrance at Bowne off Van Brundt is definitely Red Hook. This all at one time was South Brooklyn and included Gowanus as well.

Now, what if they disembark at Red Hook, Brooklyn & then move overnight to Manhattan for the embarkation, crazy idea & not to mention the extra port fees :D
,,.
probably not. When one of Cunard ships disembarked in Bayonne and moved to Brooklyn for a new cruise ALL passengers including back to backs had to get off because of a possible PSVA violation. This would probably not be a problem as the cruise continues but no cruise line wants the fine. Its probably no more expensive in Manhattan than Brooklyn...its the same fees.

its still not good. If you can exit on 9th avenue you might save a few dollars but the exit on eight avenue has the most cabs...and its still old and dingy.

We are looking for transportation options from the Brooklyn cruise port to our hotel in Times Square on Mon 9/21. There will be 4 adults plus luggage. Any suggestions?
Thank you.
call arecibo after you pass customs 7187836465. their office is in the area and should be there quickly..should cost 25-35 or so including tolls, A yellow/green cab from the terminal should be about the same. If you use the limos contracted by the cruise terminal expect to spend about twice this amount.

besides Bermuda, I have been on other ships in other places that allow Casinos to open. In Barbados for one on River boats in NO for another. I am sure there are others as its a local law issue. I am sure if the fee is too high they wouldn't open.

a car service from the brooklyn cruise terminal to lga should about $50....so should a cab(green or yellow) from the cruise terminal absent traffic...but there is almost always traffic and the meter will click away and will be more. The cruise terminal has limos/blacks cars waiting for about twice that price. most car services uses black colored cars in fact the term black car is a generic term for any black car/car service/limo although there also is a car service called black car. I use a local car service as I live in the area Arecibo 7187836465- they will tell you to call once past customs there is a pay phone but using a cell phone is good just dont use it in the customs hall line.
http://www.arecibocc.com/ it says $35 from the area to lga but tips are expected and they mat charge a couple extra bucks, there is no toll from the cruise terminal to lga. its about 9 miles. without traffic its 20 minutes but unless its a weekend am there is likely to be traffic and take longer

there is confusion here between tsa and cbp. we tend to clump all the g'vermint people into one bucket...they aren't the same.
transportation security admin has one set of rules
http://www.tsa.gov/traveler-information/what-expect-if-passenger-needs-medication
and customs and border protection has theirs
which includes "Carry such substances in their original containers; and Present a valid prescription for the substance issued by a U.S.-licensed practitioner who is registered with, and authorized by, the DEA to prescribe the medication. "
but they don't always enforce all of them..
remember when you enter another country their cbp equivalent has their own rules too..
narcotics should be in their original container i.e. Oxycontin and any opiates.
they aren't looking for diabetics but you never know what will set them off...

Where's the closest place to the Manhattan cruise port (Carnival) to buy wine to take onboard the ship? Is there one in the terminal like when you board in San Juan? That was so convenient!
there is none in the terminal

How would the anchor holding the ship in position do more damage than the ship drifting into and becoming stuck on the coral reef?
anchors and chains dragged along a reef are incredibly destructive less so the rounded bottom of a ship which distributes the blow over a greater area.
-
I asked last night, not sure if it wasn't answered, if you lose the ability to safely navigate a channel (especially a tight channel with very little room for error) why not drop anchor instead of drifting?
because the anchor would do more damage. its only work when the ship is stationary. its the weight of the chain and the anchor that holds it. -
remember Bermuda is on atlantic time one hour ahead of eastern time.

they should know by now....its either ok or not.
New Government Fees
in Norwegian Cruise Line
Posted
US federal government fees and taxes include a 1/4 of 1% charge on the cruise fare plus the fees charge by DHS for screening you and allowing you back into the US.(its the same calculation for flights). and yes they have been going up...
and lets not give them too many ideas...https://metro.co.uk/2018/09/21/judge-lashes-out-at-airport-drop-off-fees-as-he-releases-road-rage-driver-7966248/
