  1. Izumi's isn't just sushi, for what it's worth -- you can also get hibachi for example.

Hibachi is great but for gluten free people it is a no no. Soy sauce has gluten and there is no way to avoid contamination. I travel gluten free as I have celiac's disease. We eat only in specialty restaurants and had no issues on the allure when we traveled a few years ago.

  2. I got this off the Royal Caribbean web site:

The Allure charges start April 2nd

Q: Is there a charge for room service?

A: After March 27th, select sailings will start offering our enhanced room service with exciting new dishes for a delivery charge of $7.95 per stateroom order.

Q: When is the new room service menu launching?

A: The upgraded room service menu will start rolling out on March 27th and will be available across the fleet by end of May 2017.

Q: What are the enhancements of the new room service menus?

A: The new room service menu will offer several new dishes including: The Royal Burger, Classic Philly with shaved rib eye, wings with choice of 4 sauces, grilled salmon with cucumber mint yogurt as a healthy option and warm chocolate chip cookies as a decadent dessert.

Q: Is there a charge for the new room service for Suite Guests?

A: Room service will continue to be complimentary for Grand Suites and above. All other suites will have a delivery charge of $7.95 per stateroom order. Continental breakfast remains complimentary for all.

Q: Is the late night room service fee still applicable with the new room service?

A: No, all room service requests will be $7.95 whether it's a day, evening or late night request.

Q: Why is there a room service charge?

A: In our commitment to deliver best in class service and give more value to our guests, we have enhanced our room service menu that will include a $7.95 delivery fee per stateroom order.

Q: Are gratuities included in the room service charge?

A: Gratuity is included in the delivery charge for room service. Additional gratuities are at the guest's discretion.

  3. I actually live in a village in remote Alaska. In the same region where the iditarod is raced but I was wondering what the cruise ship tour experience was like. I am the village provider and just outside my window is a dog team housed in their kennel. Yesterday they were taking them out for a run and they were going so crazy that I had to look outside to see what was going on. I agree the dogs LOVE to run. I love it here in Alaska but I am ready for warm sunshine and a cruise. We will soon be going into our longer days but I am ready for this dark, cold winter to be over.

  4. Thanks for the input. I appreciate it. I did wait until after my blood draw to stop gluten.

I was on the Allure a few years ago and went the whole week with no exposure. I have celiac's and am very sensitive. We ate for dinner only in the specialty restaurants. The ships are all prepared for GF dining. The Allure had GF cookies and bread in individual packages that they brought to the table. My husband always spoke to the staff as we entered and it was never a problem. When you go to the WJ just ask to speak to the manager and he will walk you through the options...have fun!!

  5. Originally we did the same thing. Had momma Mia the first night and had planned on the 3 night dinning package. I read somewhere they usually offer a BOGO the first night, so the plan was to get on, get to a special restaurant and book the BOGO, be early and get out in time to get to mama mia.

In the end we said we would get the early discount on giovonni$21, and do the fndr for 30$ and eat at MDR the rest. Which is $ 102, instead of 85x2 plus BOGO or even fndr. So over 230$. That means less of a deal and more overall money. Besides my wife's 40th is on the 2nd so I moved momma Mia to then.

what do all those abbreviations mean?

  6. We are looking forward to reading this post. We were on the Allure several years ago and can't wait to go again the end of April. We live in a small village (400) in Western Alaska and we have been under blizzard conditions for the last month on and off (got down to neg 60) so we are REALLY looking forward to this trip. Look forward to seeing any changes to the ship. I will say we ate at the Brazilian Restaurant and it was BAD so if you are planning on going and have ever been to a real Brazilian restaurant rethink going. Can't wait to read your experience.

  7. We embarked the Statendam on Dec 3. It was raining/spitting/misting. We headed into the terminal and the luggage porter took our bags, we checked in and were on board by noon. We made it to the Mariners Lunch! Personally I thought it was very organized in San Diego. The only issue was that our cab/taxi couldn't drop us off exactly at a covered area and we had to walk maybe 40 feet.

    what is a Mariners lunch?

  8. The patient at Presby Dallas was sent home first, than returned and admitted. HOWEVER, he was not placed in isolation until he got a positive test result. How could the nurses break protocol if no isolation was ever placed? I am a nurse practitioner, and I am from the Dallas area. I live in Alaska right now but I spoke to friends who work at Presby. There are multiple people there now awaiting test results. The reality is that there COULD be people that will board a cruise with the disease. The cruise ships need to make a plan now. CDC is recommending ALL hospitals provide training in care of potential patients. If you are not a health care professional than this might not be as real to you as it is to us. If you are a health care professional and you are dismissing the threat, I would suggest you rethink it. Do we need to change our lives, no but we should demand that procedures be placed to provide for our safety? YES. Okay go ahead and start yelling...I am ready.

  9. We live in the Alaskian bush, Kotzebue to be exact. Cost of living is very high (20.00 for 6 pk of TP etc) Alaska Air allows 3 baggage item 50.00 each within the state. So a flight from Anchorage to here looks like an episode of the Beverly Hillbillies. Every person including kids with 3 tubs of food and a carry on item of a turkey, several pot roasts or 6 cartons of eggs. It is an expierence. When I went to the village on a bush plane a couple of weeks ago one isle was passengers the other isle was bread and staple products. It is a different life here.

  10. And to finish your sentence.... who they believe broke from protocol when taking the protective gear off. It needs to be taken off and handled very carefully too, so they think that's where something went wrong.

They r making an guess at that. No proof protocol was broken. It is an attempt to prevent fear.
