  1. Why can't people just follow the rules? It clearly states No Shorts in the MDR, that means No Shorts. You are eating in a beautiful dining room and being waited on hand and foot, if you want to wear shorts, go on a different vacation.

I wear whatever I want at dinner every other night of the year, usually pajamas, but for one week I get dressed up and enjoy the atmosphere of the MDR and being pampered. It's part of the experience of cruising.

  2. If you are a member of Crown & Anchor, you can set your upgrade preferences on Royal's website under the Profile section.

thanks for this tip. I just set mine up and have my fingers crossed.

    and congrats on the upgrade!

  3. You've been on 17 cruises and you don't know where to find the answers to your questions without calling the call center?

How about searching Google? You asked about information on onboard activities- why not save some of that til you get on the ship and then decide what you want to do?

I hope you got insurance for this cruise. Maybe you can get a doctor's note and cancel and book with a different cruise line. I feel sorry for the crew during your upcoming cruise. Please be nice to them, they work their bottoms off for little pay and most of them are very nice.

  4. We were on Jewel and did the MTD and it was wonderful. We were worried how it would work, since we had only done traditional before this cruise. To us it seemed a lot like the traditional.

We set up our reservation when we boarded and except for the first night (muster drill delay) we sat in the same section with the same wait staff.

  5. We sailed on Nov 15th. Very nice ship. Previous cruises were on Mariner and Navigator. We weren't sure how we would like the smaller ship, but we liked it. We got to see and meet more people.

Couple negatives: Starbucks... I'm not a fan of their coffee. We missed the free coffee in the coffee shop like on Mariner and Navigator. They did have free coffee in Windjammer, when they refilled it. The rice crispy treats, peanut butter treats and fruity crispy treats were to die for!

The other negative was the sewer gas smell in each of the bathrooms. Both in the room and around the ship. Such a pleasant smell, NOT.

Positives: the staff, ship, pools, ok- everything else. The food was excellent. Try the soups!

  6. we just got back from Jewel and getting on the ship is easy-peasy. Getting off the ship is not! I found it was very unorganized. We scheduled an excursion and had to be in the theater at 7:45, there were already about 200 people in there and ONE RCCL employee. no one could hear him. We then had to go to a warehouse type building and find our luggage and then get in line for customs.

quick tip- put something like a ribbon or something bright colored on your luggage so you can spot it! we didn't and had a heck of a time finding ours.

  7. I know this question probably belongs in the Port of Call section, but it's really a question about several ports and frankly, the Royal boards have more people on them.

This may be a stupid question, but at a couple of the ports, Antigua and Grenada, both have excursions to a "falls" area. Are these water falls or is it a cliff or just the name of the area? I think going to a water fall might be kind of fun and would provide great photo opportunity.

    thanks

  8. If it looks too aggressive, don't take them!! a number of years ago we did Dunns River Falls with our kids and after the falls you are herded through a vendor area and one guy put necklaces on the kids and even wrote their names on an item while following us to the van. As we got to the van, we said no thank you one more time and he had shoved the items in the kids hands asked for $25, we said no and we drove off. He didn't get any money. It really put a damper on an otherwise great experience.

On Labadee, we went through the vendor area and were very generous. One of them offered to trade the item he was selling for a plate of food. very sad.
