  1. Now.....call an online travel agent and get those perks and then probably the same amount of OBC. We use the one whose initials are the same as this web site. You'll have to pay final payment a few weeks earlier and go through them if you want to change your cruise, but you do your own check-in, etc.

You have to transfer the booking (they send an email to do it) within 60 days.

What would be the advantage of doing what you have suggested?

  2. thanks for the update. I am thoroughly enjoying the read.

Do you have a separate blog for photos? I somehow thought so, but can't find it.

Clearly, it's not necessary because you do such a good job of placing us right there beside you, but I thought I read that you have a blog as well. Many thanks for the time (and money) it obviously takes for you to share your cruise with us.

I think this is the blog you are referring to - http://cruisingwithbillandmaryann.blogspot.ca/

I think their son was the one who posted all the photos on this wonderful blog, but I think I am correct in saying that it was very time consuming and so they do not update the blog anymore. I would love to see their pictures too, so interesting and I live vicariously through these blogs - age and limited mobility has curbed our cruising days but do so enjoy following others!

  3. Hi again,

I have another question for you, satxdiver. Really hope you can help.

Our roll call has not set up an official meet and greet on board. We had thought we could have an impromptu meeting in Skywalkers lounge at 5 pm on Monday 12 October, after our day in Newport. We have been told that the Elite and Platinum event will be held there, every night, at that time.

Could you suggest an alternative venue in a public bar which would not be in use for another event please? I know this is rather cheeky, but none of us has been aboard the ship before so we are not familiar with the layout.

Thank you very much for any help you can give us.

Enjoy the rest of your cruise,

    Libby

How is the OP going to know if any of the public bars are being used for another event? They use the public spaces for a variety of programs and events depending on the demographic of the passengers on board. You should probably call the cruise line for a more definitive answer.

  4. Option 1 definitely! Not only is it $700 cheaper, but it's nonstop. When flying in the day of the cruise, a connecting flight will basically double your risk of something going wrong that could cause you to miss the cruise.

    Or losing your luggage!

  5. Thank you for your quick response regarding the photos. I will look at them eventually in your blog, however I have now moved on to your January 2013 Caribbean cruise on Ruby Princess.

I do have a question for you. Obviously you have been big fans of "The Sanctuary", and procure your space as soon as you board. Do you feel the same way now that it is $40 per person a day? I only ask because last March we were on the Star Princess (15 days out of Los Angeles to Hawaii) and there was nobody up there when I was swimming in the Lotus Spa pool. I felt it was such a shame to have all that wasted space. And of course if it had been booked for the whole cruise for two people it would be $1200 total, which seems like an awful lot of money to me.

My husband and I have enjoyed quite a few cruises because I worked for an airline, but alas I am no longer working, so they will be few and far between now. However, I enjoy reading reviews and have enjoyed yours immensely. Thank you for all the time you have taken to write them. (I originally hail from Bournemouth, England but have lived in Canada since 1974).

  6. Here is the video of the tender return to ship and then leaving Sorrento in our wake.

This would be our last night on the Ocean Princess.

Having such a hard time seeing pictures in this review - keeps on saying "photo no longer available". This the 4th review of yours I have thoroughly enjoyed in the last couple of weeks and no issues with your photos on any of the other reviews. Any idea what's going on?

  7. We were meant to disembark in Seattle after the Victoria port a couple of years ago. I developed a really bad cold that last day and as we are Canadians (and we were easily able to change our flight) I just went to the front desk after supper and asked if we could disembark. There was absolutely no problem and we just went back to the room, packed up and left. They radioed through to the Canadian authorities there at the dock and they reviewed our passports etc. and we were good to go. We took a taxi to the airport and flew home. We didn't miss the disembarkation in Seattle, US customs etc. one bit, and I really was feeling awful. It never occurred to me to ask for a refund for that last night etc. - that would have been so inappropriate - I was doing this to convenience me and I was more than happy that we were allowed to leave.

  8. According to you Captain's blog, your "ubiquitous dubious strange passenger" was talked to yesterday, and the issue was resolved, supposedly. I hope that is true. No-one, passengers, crew and islanders alike, should have to put up with this kind of intimidation. The poor man may have lost his mind, but he is obviously making life uncomfortable for everyone else. Very unfortunate!

  9. Aloha,

Yes, I was referring to the fall 2014 Sailing of the Crown Princess... And yes, we will be on your Feb 2014 Star Princess cruise! Sorry if that caused some confusion.

Someone has suggested on the March 5th, 2014 roll call of the Star Princess, that you will not be on that sailing as your contract ends on the previous sailing. Say it isn't so !!!!!!!!

  10. How many use scooters but can actually walk a few steps? I'm going to say most. There are people in wheelchairs who can't walk at all. They need a lift to get from the chair to the bed or toilet. Those are the people who should be given priority for accessible rooms. Period.

So those folks that require scooters for longer distances, but are not allowed to leave them out in the hall of a cruise ship, are not allowed to take a cruise?

  11. Scooter rental can be obtained from "Special needs at sea". I just got a quote for $287.00 including taxes for a 15 day cruise out of Los Angeles. The scooter will be in our cabin when we arrive and we will leave it there when we depart.

This will greatly enhance my cruise experience, as I have chronic knee pain, and cannot walk very far. Very excited about this option.

  12. Just saw this that may be of interest to you:

"Great deal at San Diego hotel

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We had to scramble after our Splendor cruise was canceled and booked HAL out of San Diego for Jan 8, 2011. We checked out stay123 dot com and found the Puerto Vista hotel in Little Italy. The rate was $89 for one night with 7 days parking. It is only 6 blocks to the cruise ship and there is so much to do in Little Italy. I called the hotel directly and the person there was soooo helpful and confirmed the price is valid. This is one of those boutique hotels and I have never seen one priced so reasonably."

    and...

I'm bad, the correct spelling of the hotel name is Porto Vista Sorry! The phone is 619-557-9303
