  1. You do not get 6 bottles of liquor or any other mini bar items with a room in the Haven. You get one bottle of champagne. Maybe you're thinking of some other Cruise Line. If you drink the stuff in the mini bar you will be charged for each and every little item. We just stayed in the Haven as an upsell in July. You also do not receive the promos that are normally a part of the Haven booking if you move to The Haven as an upsell. If you had the UBP in your prior booking then you do not lose it but if you did not already have it, it will not be added. If you were already in the Haven before upgrading to that suite then I believe you already receive all those Haven perks such as Internet and drink package but I can't find anywhere where it says you get bottles of booze free.

We stayed in the DOS on the Escape. I can't recall if we were offered three or six bottles of liquor. Didn't matter because all four of us had the UBP. We asked for bottles of Chardonnay instead. Definitely were given unlimited bottled water and soda. Not a fan of the Champagne, so we never drank it.

  2. Nope. Not even a question right now. I love the freestyle experience on NCL ships. The dining and entertainment options alone are enough to keep me hangin in there. Sailed on RCI's Oasis a couple of years ago and I was not impressed...at all. Beautiful ship, but the food and entertainment sucked!!

  3. My first three cruises with NCL were inside cabins. First one to Bermuda on the Majesty, second one on the Epic Eastern Caribbean, then third on the Epic Mediterranean. Prior to that, I had no experience with cruising. Over the past two years I have only booked Haven suites. I have flirted with the idea of booking a mini suite, but then I check promos and pricing. Nowadays, I only book during a third & fourth person sails free promo. If the price difference between a 2 BR suite for four vs two mini suites is no more than $600 pp then I book the Haven. For me that's a decent price for the upgrade. If I decided to stay in a non Haven cabin I'd definitely buy the SDP and possibly a spa pass. I'm not a fan of the food served in the MDR's or the buffet. I'm sure I'd have a great time without my precious Haven, but I'd rather not have to confirm that [emoji5].

  4. I usually put on about 3 lbs, so no real horror stories here. I'm only 5'0 tall so 5 or 6 lbs can put me in the next size. I wear sweats on travel days for the extra room just in case. I have a B2B in October and I think I'll use the gym for the first time! I have two sizes of all of my go to crop pants because my weight fluctuates. Looks like I'll be packing both sizes :p

  5. I was replying to this. It doesn't specify Haven. Sorry if I misread it.:):):)

Ha! No worries [emoji2]. The response you quoted was my reply to someone who disputed when I told them that the entire cabin does not need to purchase the UBP when it's offered as a perk. Can you imagine the uproar in this forum if that were the case [emoji33].

  6. DO your invoices specifically say that all of them have it? or could it have been a time prior to it being just 1 &2 pass gets the perk.. on my vacation summery it does state that just 2 of us out of the 5 have the perks, the additional ones I needed to but it COULD have been because they werent on the first booking> I added my kids at a later date

Sorry if I didn't make it clear before. The only people on both my upcoming cruises that will receive the UBP/SDP promo perks will be pax 1 & 2. My amenities confirmation is clear about that. None of the additional pax will receive those perks. They can purchase them separately, but it is not a requirement.

  7. No, no. ONLY PARTIALLY TRUE!

HAVEN guests are NOT charged the 18% . When the guests are non - Haven, the 18% IS charged and will be seen on the invoice. The 18% is absolutely charged for non- Haven guests ( unless it was booked before this policy was in place, quite a while ago)

I stated in an earlier post that Haven guest who received the UBP/SDP perk do NOT pay the additional 18% in gratuities. Not sure which part of my statement you quoted was not accurate

We didn't need to purchase the UDP but we did need to purchase the UBP.

We did it in advance this time...last time we did it after boarding.

Those T&C are for passengers that actually purchase the UBP. This does not apply to the UBP when given as a perk. There is nothing on either of my invoices that indicates a charge for the UBP. Passengers 3 & 4 are only being charged for port fees and taxes.

  9. I'm not sure if this applies to your sailing but...

We are in a Haven suite & the perks such as UDP & UBP apply only to the first 2 guests (at least in our case it does). And the other two guests (there are 4 of us) are required to purchase the UBP (roughly $1800) and we will purchase the other UDP (roughly $280). So it does add up.

We will just split the extra UBP & UDP costs between the four of us.

    Cheers,

    Sandy

We are in the Haven this October and again in August 2017. The other two passengers were not required to purchase the UBP and SDP.

  10. When Haven was a bit less expensive we would book two separate suites. Last two cruises were in the two bedroom suite on the Epic and the DOS on the Escape. We only book when third and fourth sail free because it saves us money [emoji4]. Escape is the only ship that has a DOS with an actual second bedroom and another bathroom. Also, Haven guests do not pay the 18% gratuity that is added onto the promo UBP and SDP.

  11. Hi,

Fooling around with pricing here and wondered if we put (4) adults in a Two Bedroom Haven Villa do we all get the 5 perks...so (2) would sail free and we would just split the cost 4 ways? has anyone done this? it seems to good to be true...

Im figuring there has to be a catch...

    Best,

    Mark

I'll break this down as best as I can without confusing you or myself lol. Third and fourth sail free, so yes, the cabin fee split four ways is a pretty good price. The drink package only applies to the first two guests listed on the reservation. Same with the dining and free gratuities. The 250 internet minutes can be used by everyone in the suite. The two bedroom suite is actually more attractive to me than the DOS on the BA. It has two bathrooms and albeit a small one, a second bedroom. The DOS only has one bedroom and one bathroom. With four people, I'd chose the two bedroom suite. I turned down a free upgrade to the DOS for this very reason. Now, if you don't mind sharing one bathroom between four people and the other two sleeping in the main living area, then go for the DOS.

  12. What about frozen drinks? I don't get UBP but like to order the occasional pina colada, I really don't want to pay $18 for one.

I don't know how much the cost was but, Pina Coladas fall under the cap. We had the UBP in January on the Escape and my sister drank at least three everyday. I had a few frozen margaritas everyday too. Never was charged extra.

  13. Yes, I believe it's covered under the old UDP. We ate there in January and didn't pay. You may want to take a copy of the original T&C. It's different from the new SDP. I had to show it to the servers and eventually an officer when I was at Food Republic. They were refusing to honor the 25% discount until I showed them the T&C under the old plan.

  14. Those are some great stories. I cruise with my sister once a year and I do all of the planning and she just gives the money. It's a pretty nice deal because I love the planning part and she could care less. As we start getting closer to the cruise she call me and say "where are we going again?" This next year our 3rd sister will come with us for the first time. She is a mixture of my other sister and me. I am the baby too and she is the oldest. She wants to ask questions and be part of the decision making and a part of me just thinks "why are you asking all of these questions" and then I remember she is just like me. :)

I think I need to start figuring out how to surprise both of them.

Thanks for taking the time to share!

Just fudge a little when telling your sister about accommodations or excursions that you want to be a surprise. Keep it as close to the truth as you can otherwise you might confuse yourself. At least I'd confuse myself lol. Oh, and make sure you're the one in charge of the financial aspects [emoji57]

  15. Traveling with my mother, sister, and adult daughter. We were originally booked in two balcony cabins on the Breakaway sailing March 2014. I'd been spending a lot of time here reading about the Haven suites. I just read in envy because I didn't think the others would be ok with forking up the additional cash. No way was I going to convince them of how great it was going to be. Well, 60 days prior to sailing I check NCL's website because I know prices can drop drastically. Ha! Major price drop on the Courtyard Penthouse Suites [emoji16]. I immediately go into "baby of the family" mode. I've GOT to convince AKA manipulate them!! Hmm, my sisters birthday is in March. Bingo! It'll be a birthday surprise for her [emoji4].

I go to my mother as only her youngest daughter can do. I'm excited, jumping out of my skin about the fantastic deal I'm going to tell her about. For a mere $700 upgrade (per cabin) we too can experience the Haven. I justify this by explaining that it'll be a gift for her lovely first born [emoji57]. It took a few minutes, but she was all in! Ok! Soooo, we need to call NCL now! What, now??! Yes, mother, NOW before they sell out! Sadly our PCC tells us that there is only ONE suite available. The Haven Spa Suite. Ugh!! We book it.

This is bitter sweet because this was all my idea and now I wouldn't be able to enjoy the Haven. I love my sister, but I will not...cannot spend an entire week in the same cabin with her. Besides, my daughter would miss me too much if she couldn't room with me [emoji6]. It's settled. Mother and older sister get the Haven Spa Suite and my daughter and I remain in the balcony.

Fast forward two days later. I'm at work browsing the interwebs and I land on NCL again. What!!! The Courtyard Penthouse is available now. Heart racing, I get on the phone and book it! No conversation with the parental unit. Just book it!! I change the reservation so that my daughter and I take the Spa Suite and my mother and sister stay in the Courtyard Penthouse. I figure staying in the Haven proper will be a better experience for them. My mother is pleased, I'm pleased, but my daughter couldn't care less lol. She just wants to go on another cruise. Job well done Anita [emoji41].

Luckily my sister is the type that doesn't want any involvement with vacation planning. Just tell her how much and when and she's good. We go to check in and she begins to wonder why we aren't in line with the others. Sucker!!! Lol. The attendant directs us to the Haven check in. The ginormous sign is pretty hard to miss and I think she's beginning to catch on. She's still looking a bit confused at this point though. Ok, so we are in a private check in area now and I kinda have to spill the beans because she knows something is up. She's excited, but it doesn't quite hit her how fantabulous this is until she sees the lounge and her suite. A great time was had by all! Two years and several NCL cruises later we still have yet to book that balcony again. We have been spoiled. I've created a monster[emoji33].
