  1. I thought my thread would get a little more interest than this! Oh well.

In addition to Pirate Republic Brewery, the John Watlings rum extravaganza also seems worth a stop. Would still love to hear any other advice...

  2. Margaritaville restaurant is on paradise island outside of Atlantis at the paradise island ferry terminal not an easy walk, but the taxi van will drop u off for 4$ Margaritaville hotel in Nassau is not due to open for another year or so.

When you say “not an easy walk” is that due to distance, or lack of sidewalks, or ?

  3. We just returned from a quick nassau/princess cay iteneray and while we did the actual "pub crawl" excursion (and enjoyed it) I can not speak highly enough about the fish fry. The food was amazing, drinks flowed and the staff (particularly Kenny) were the best ever. Will need a cab though, I'm estimating about 2 miles past junkaroo beach by the fort - the jerk chicken, mac&cheese, peas&rice, and fried plantains were seriously out of this world and like $10. Oh and the fish snacks were incredible.

Thanks! We will think about the Fish Fry but are really hoping to stay within walking distance of the ship on this visit.

  4. I will be spending a day in Nassau soon with my family and am thinking of doing an afternoon "pub crawl" on our own. We want to avoid the touristy places like Senior Frogs, but still stay within walking distance of our cruise ship. Which bars would you would recommend? Any special Bahamian and/or unique drinks we should try? We are all over 18, but one of us only drinks mocktails, so any interesting thoughts in the non-alcoholic area would also be greatly appreciated!

  5. The Bahamian Government isn't too keen on people blowing up their reefs just so it's easier to get to shore. That's why you'll probably never see a pier in Grand Cayman either.

How was Disney able to build a dock a few miles away at Castaway Cay?

This is from the Wikipedia entry for Castaway Cay:

"Disney is said to have spent US$25 million to develop and outfit the island. Construction took 18 months and included dredging 50,000 truckloads of sand from the depths of the Atlantic Ocean. The pier and its approaches were constructed to allow the Disney ships to dock alongside, thus removing the need for tenders to get the passengers ashore. To create the mooring site for the ships, workers dredged sand and used explosives to blast coral, and form a 1,700-foot (520 m) channel about 35 feet (11 m) deep and ranging from 200 to 400 feet (120 m) wide."

  6. Our recent Breakaway cruise, like so many others, was forced to miss GSC due to high seas that really did not look very rough. Is there a good reason why NCL does not build a dock, and instead relies on tendering to their private Island? It seems like missing GSC is a large part of many of the negative reviews the Breakaway receives when not sailing the summer Bermuda route.

  7. Yeah, that's kind of what I was saying. My point, like I said above, is that I don't know why someone would ask the hostess. Just order. It's not that big of a freaking deal.

I saw this thread yesterday, knew I was going to Ocean Blue on Breakaway that night, and decided to try and be helpful. We did not personally want more than one app, but I asked both the hostess and the waiter so I could report back here. Why some of you get your jollies by sniping at people that are honestly just trying to help is beyond me.

  8. I've read the specialty dining plan's T&C up and down but I'm still confused about what in your meal is included. Some people are saying one appetizer, one entree, one dessert, while others are saying unlimited apps, one entree, and unlimited desserts. And how do sides at Cagney's work if you have the SDP? Unlimited as well?

On Breakaway now and while all specialties we have tried have the one entree limit, only Ocean Blue has the one app & one dessert rule.

    Cagney's had unlimited sides.

  9. So no one spoke to the manager and brought it to their attention that this restriction is not in the terms and conditions of the package you bought?

Don't let them get away with it. If they want to change the rules, then they should start with new packages being currently sold. Who would ever buy a package from NCL if they can change the terms after the fact?

They are not changing the rules. Before a la carte pricing, Ocean Blue was limited to one app, one entree, one dessert. The rule is still the same for SDP/UDP.

Really, it is plenty of food.

  10. Can anyone confirm whether the GEM still has a water slide or not?

    Thanks in advance

Yes, the Gem still has its waterslide, but it is a very slow slide. Most people get stuck halfway down and have to push themselves. The trick is to ride on your skin, not your bathing suit. Put your arms and shoulders down and lift the butt!

  11. No extra charge for that as long as you get up and leave the restaurant in between.;)

When I was on the Gem in November I met a lovely couple and they went to dinner twice every night. Once to Cagney's and once to another venue. They did not have any problems doing that. I don't know where they put it all, they were two very fit and trim people.

    Rochelle

I tried that twice on my recent Gem cruise. Lobster at Orchid Garden at 5:30, then the show, then Filet Mignon at Cagney's at 9pm. Definitely stuffed after that. I blame the desserts I also ate more than the entrees, though. :D
