  1. I can help on this. We were on the Star the week of Feb 17th and had a pretty long discussion with the Beverage Manager on the ship about this. He wrote down for us what is NOT included, I'll try to post a scan of it when I get home tonight, here is what he wrote:

    • All Martinis
    • Speciality Drinks in Souvenir glasses
    • Beers $5.50 and above
    • Wine by the glas of $10 above
    • Super Premium brands of liquor
    • Bottles of wine
    • Cans of soda and red bull
    • Bottles of Water
    • Buckets of Beer

I also have the list of included liquors from the Star that I'll post. We definitely talked with people that were having Patron shots and thought they were included because they wrote UBP on their receipt. I'd imagine they were surprised when they got their bill. Overall it is a pretty good program, but the Martini thing still makes no sense to me.

So soda isn't included in the ultimate beverage package?

  2. Norwegian Cruise Line has introduced a new enhanced room service menu that is debuting on board Norwegian Getaway and Norwegian Breakaway. The new menu offers an expanded selection for breakfast in addition to a wider variety of options available on the 24 hour menu. Individual items on the menu remain available on a complimentary basis and a convenience charge of up to $7.95 will be added to each order placed. Room service is one of up to 29 dining options offered across the fleet, and guests continue to be able to enjoy a wide array of complimentary choices onboard 24 hours a day.

This policy is going to backfire. Penny smart and pound dumb.

People are seriously up in arms over this.

Please reconsider this policy, or revise it.

  3. I think your better off with the end of the cruise survey. Changes come in numbers of complaints.

Speaking your mind to a couple officers on the ship is just that. They are literally on a boat all the time. They are at the service of corporate.

As NCL is a business, money talks. Either people stop cruising with NCL or they don't purchase the services/items that they don't agree with.

Money in the end speaks louder than words.

Say it on the card. That go's to corporate.

  4. Since room service and it's now cruise critic notorious "convenience" is the hot topic for the foreseeable future. Wondering how many people order room service, and what you on average order?

We typically order just light breakfast items. Coffee, rolls/Danish, yogurt/granola.

  5. I went to the website. It's there. It is worded strangely.

On one hand they say some of it is complimentary, but on the other hand say there is a convenience charge for delivery? So in the end its not complimentary.

This type of thing seems silly.

People are on board with the increased gratuity, so don't push it.

NCL has all this new business with the freestyle promotion and they are going to turn it around and destroy any goodwill they may gain over trying to pass the cost of doing business off to the customer.

    I can't see how this won't backfire.

  6. Just returned from there. We used a different company and just did snorkeling. I think if you enjoy snorkeling you will want to spend as much time doing it in Roatan as you can because it is unsurpassed. We used a company that I have nothing but great things to say about... Glad to provide info if you want it.

This makes three of us. I would appreciate knowing the snorkeling tour operator.

    Thanks!!

  7. It's not a new bar, just a new name. I do like the name. Should mean that it's open 24 hours a day, right? Because it's 5 o'clock SOMEWHERE!!

I wonder if they changed the way it looks to be more like a Caribbean/Tiki Bar hangout, or just changed the name?

Great point! I think we all should test them out on this one!

Promise to take pics and post upon boarding???? ;) We fellow impending Star cruisers want to know!

  8. Its not really "across the board" higher anyway. My upcoming cruise on Freedom is several hundred less than 2012 for the same month and same category of cabin.

Maybe I just paid too much in 2012 :D

There are still deals out there if one is flexible on when they can cruise.

I think that Freedom is becoming a older ship, which usually drives the price down. That is a great bargain by the way.

It's all supply and demand. Sometimes your paying more and sometimes your paying less.

  9. All the "Hourly" folks (cabin stewards, bar-folks, waitstaff and housekeeping folks) are independent contractors. As such they are responsible to their home countries for all such personal matters. They have minimal insurance coverage under their contracts.

With the increase in gratuities RCI no longer provides the above mentioned contract employees $25 every two weeks.

I clarified this in another post. I mistakenly left out "does not". Totally changed the dynamic of that paragraph.
