  1. I've just re-read my query from some time ago.  It's been a long time since we sailed on Britannia but I just had to say that the pic shown above of the view from the balcony of G411 is incorrect.  This is the view from G411 and as you can see, there is no obstruction, but the noise inside the cabin 24/7 which I think is from the ship's air conditioning system directly below, is quite significant.  A great cabin if you're deaf but if you're bothered by noise you need to go higher up.   Just thought I'd correct this error.

  2. Excellent choice of words! That is exactly what it would take to get ship building going again in these areas. We will see Chinese built vessels before the resurrection.

I saw the Chinese ship Genting Dream recently and was told it was built in Germany for the Chinese. I bet they'll now copy it and build them in China from now on. With a can do attitude we can do anything.

  3. In case people are still anxious about this we have had it confirmed by Cunard that if you want to stay on the QM2 when it visits Cochin on the 2018 World Cruise, you do not need a visa of any description. If anyone would like a copy of the email then mail me on nareymartin@gmail.com

We've been to Cochin before and to India - which we love - many times. Cochin is unexceptional and we feel no need to see it again.

Many thanks for posting this message. :)

  4. Hi cruiseluvva, could I ask which department in Cunard wrote to you, as I need to check this with them also.

I emailed CIBT this morning with the same question, and have just had a reply saying the visa is required for Cochi, whether you stay onboard or not. It could be a case of CIBT trying to drum up extra business of course!

Hi Durante. This is a quote from the Cunard website (visa page)

If you do not hold a visa or E-Visa, you must remain on board the ship when in port in India.

  5. I know of people who have been upgraded for one or more segments of a world cruise. Alas, although towards the end of each segment I was hoping for that letter telling us we had been upgraded, we had no such luck!

How do you get an upgrade for a segment of the World Cruise? Do you ask at reception when you board?

  6. momzcruzing.....WOW, thanks! That's great news. I've been checking with various sources, on this issue, and get a variety of answers. ( Which is N O T reassuring ). I'll be on QM2 in 2 weeks for 14 days, NY > Southampton > NY and plan to get their

    'answers' for the situation.

The BEST thing SANTA could bring me, this year..... is the news from CUNARD that India is being skipped.

Please let us know what you find out as I'm getting very nervous about this India visa thing too!!

  7. >>>>cruiseluvva, # 15 Our sentiments EXACTLY. Our upcoming cruise, 3/31, Hong Kong >> May 10 Southampton is very exciting to look forward to, E X C E P T for the one day of India where the HASSEL is very bothersome, the required cost is insane, and the port is most disappointing.... ( was there 18 mo ago..... Hot Hot Hot ~~ crowded, Y U CK )

That's exactly what I was thinking and I really wouldn't mind staying on board providing the Cunard statement is true but I will be checking and re-checking and may just go for the cheaper e-visa just in case.

  8. Has anyone ever used over the door hangers for extra hanging space on QM2? I'd like to get some but all the ads mention door thickness and I haven't got a clue how thick the bathroom or wardrobe doors are on QM2. And, does anyone use magnetic hooks on the walls?

  9. Hello. We are booked on QM and will be in Cochin for a day. Only stop in India. Can someone explain the visa situation and cost. We are reading conflicting stories about what is required, type of visa, is it needed if staying on board etc.

    Thank you in advance.

Together with our preferred visa provider CIBT we are pleased to provide you a simple online solution to all your World Cruise visa requirements www.cibtvisas.co.uk/cunard.

The online portal will provide you with:

    • Detailed visa information specific to your cruise
    • Details of required documentation needed to support your applications
    • Application forms available for you to print out and send to CIBT

Please note the online portal will replace our previous postal information pack and this information applies to British passport holders who reside in the UK at the time of the application. Your visa requirements may differ if you do not hold a British Citizen passport, should this be the case, you can contact relevant embassy or consulate for advice. Alternatively you can contact our recommended visa service CIBT on 0207 620 6998 . Be sure to advise that you are travelling by sea, as your visa requirements may be different to the standard advice supplied for air travel.

Fines may be imposed if you travel without the correct documentation and it is important we point out that it is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct documents prior to travel or when in transit to the countries included in your itinerary. Failure to have the correct documents will result in denial of boarding or repatriation, in line with government regulations. Please be sure to check your itinerary and obtain the visas required for the specific countries you will be visiting during your cruise. Visas are required when embarking/ disembarking or staying on board.

    From cibt website say:-

    • India: Cunard recommend against obtaining eVisas for India. Although India has recently introduced electronic visas, the sea ports the ship is visiting have limited capability and infrastructure to support the processing of large numbers of guests with this type of visa and very long clearance delays would be inevitable. This is due to the additional process requirements such as scanning of fingerprints and passports. In order for you to proceed ashore quickly it is important that you obtain a standard tourist visa. The visa is normally in the form of a sticker in your passport and must be obtained prior to boarding the ship.

From the Cunard website the message also says "If you do not hold a visa or E-Visa, you must remain on board the ship when in port in India."

That looks an amazing offer and thanks for the info but I'm looking at the 2017 world cruises which will probably be advertised in September. It'll take me that long to save up but thanks for the tip. Looks like waiting until just a few months before really pays off.

  11. It could be that you're looking at the pricing for single cabins on QE and QV which are incredibly expensive. Instead you could get single occupancy of an obstructed view double cabin for just a bit more money and a lot more space.
