Haboob Posted March 15, 2018 #26 Share Posted March 15, 2018 No probs; it can get confusing! Long Beach has one cruise berth, usually taken up by a Carnival ship. L.A./San Pedro has three berths incl that remote B46 Have a nice one! "Confusing", indeed. There are *3* berths right next to each other at the World Cruise Center ("LA"): #91 and #92 in the LA River, and #93 around the corner and parallel to the Vincent Thomas Bridge. I never knew there was a berth in the Outer Harbor until you pointed out that "Berth #46" was down by the SS Lane Victory exhibit. Apparently it's used for smaller, boutique ships. So... Can I lend you my dunce cap? ;p Thanks, I am having a nice (cool) one. You, too.

World Cruise Center, that being berth #93 (primary) adjacent the Vincent Thomas and berth #92 (secondary) around the corner. With the big Iowa in close proximity at berth #87, berth #91 is no longer an option for cruise ships, unlike times in the past, and remote berth #46 is used when there are three cruise ships in town, as it will be on 21 December of this year with Norwegian Star (#93), Crystal Serenity (#92) and Amsterdam (#46) ;)
Tampa Girl Posted March 15, 2018 Author #28 Share Posted March 15, 2018 Sorry! B46 is NOT in Long Beach. It's a remote/outer harbor berth in the the Port of L.A./San Pedro Copper - The Amsterdam will be docking at B93 on September 30th. We are meeting friends there. Can they drive to the dock or is there another place where we must meet them?

A bit of a zoo: lots of cars, lots of lanes; lots of luggage, porters, and luggage carts in those lanes; lots of folks wandering around wondering "where's the front door?" IMNSHO worse than LAX. Also -- I'll let copper confirm -- it seems we entered the parking lot with the WCT building on our left and the road led *way* past it, then looped 180° to the left and came *way* back to the WCT with it on our right. Any suggestions where a good meeting place would be in San Pedro for a day's visit? We will reboard by 4:00 p.m. Also, by what time can we expect the departure rush hour to be over - 11:00 a.m.? Our friends are coming from the LA area.

Sounds like you're on the MS Amsterdam, docking Dec 21st at that same Berth #46 that tripped me up earlier? If so, let your friends know you are *NOT* at either LA's World Cruise Center or Carnival's Long Beach docks. Berth #46 is several miles south of the World Cruise Center, way down at the foot of Miner St. It's --uhm-- desolate down there with only Berth #46, a parking lot, and the SS Lane Victory museum ship. Her gangway might make a meeting landmark if you're not hauling luggage: Google maps has her a ¼+ mile away across that parking lot.

That's the cruise - although it is now 89 days out of Seattle, stopping on Sept. 30th in LA, which was the original embarkation port. So we are talking about B93, I believe. Disembarkation is on 12/21 at B46. Any suggestions for possibility of a meeting at B93 or better just to meet someplace in San Pedro. The ex-USS Iowa museum battleship is right next door at B86 (south = away from the tall, green, Vincent Thomas bridge). She has her own parking lot, and her gangways make a great meeting landmark. Good tour, too.

IslandThyme Posted March 18, 2018 #37 Share Posted March 18, 2018 It's mysterious - before I found this thread just now I called HAL about the Dec. 21 berth and the person, this very morning, told me we would arrive at Long Beach.
