Santorini cab costs

Recommended Posts

It would be negotiable, but we recently round the Santorini taxi drivers to be a bit absurd in their demands. We were on Santorini this past April and the island was not very crowded (still pre-season). As we were walking over to the bus station, we passed by the main taxi parking area (it is very close to the bus station) which was full of taxis with no fares. We decided to ask the drivers how much they wanted to run us over to Oia (which is about a 10 min ride) and several drivers quoted us $30 Euros (about $42). We tried to bargain them down to 20 Euros and they just laughed. As a result, all those taxis just sat in the lot while 40+ folks lined-up for the inexpensive bus. Later that afternoon (our ship was in Santorini until 9pm) we were waiting for the bus back to Fira (from Oia) and there were about 5 taxis in the parking area next to the bus stop. Several folks walked over and tried to negotiate a reasonable price with the drivers (to go back to Fira) and again, the drivers were asking high prices. So, nobody took the taxis...everyone just waited 5 min for the bus. I cannot imagine how much they would have charged if it had been a busy day! :)

Was just in Santorini a couple weeks ago and the 4 of us took a taxi from Fira to Oia. It was $20 euros to get there, more taxis available returning so we were able to do it for 15 euros (for the 4 of us, not pp)

They were taxis with open windows and one had a smoking cab driver. Narrow curvey roads...an experience!

We were in Santorini from noon to 11 PM and wanted to see the sunset in Oia. We weren't sure of the bus schedule that late (we didn't check) We hired a cab driver to take us to Oia, he waited about 1 1/2 hours and returned us to Fira. It was very expensive...about 60 euros, but we had 4 to share. Probably a good idea to check the bus schedule.

On a sidenote has anyone been on the Donkey ride in Santorini? I highly recommend it. Though it's a little scary (if you have a fear of heights) but you'll have a good laugh and fun/unusual ride.

We were there 2 years ago and did the bus I believe it was 1 1/2 Euros each way per person. I think the taxi was approx. 15 Euros one way. The bus was very prompt and anjoyable. They have extended hours during tourist season. You can look it up online for the schedule.

You can check the schedule online, they extend the hours and add buses during the day during busy tourist season.
