Rare BecciBoo Posted January 28, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 28, 2014 Confirmation of that with Galveston residents over on the Galveston thread woohoo I see Freedom comin: yesterday port of galveston approved the new 5 year agreement with rccl including a larger ship than voyager class. And the terminal # 2 rccl will double in size and improvements will be completed spring 2015 which dovetails in with navigator repositioning in spring 2015. Whatever ship comes here to replace the Navigator, I'll be one of the first to book it!! :D But I will miss the Navigator. It's a good thing I'll be cruising on her a couple of times before she leaves! :D

lrn2cruise Posted January 29, 2014 #7 Share Posted January 29, 2014 I would SCREAM:eek: If Oasis or Allure came to Texas!!!! That would be beyond exciting. I hve been on FOS, and will most likely get on NOS at some point. It seems to me that now NOS is the same as FOS, so why bring the same ship? I wouldnt mind a smaller ship along with the larger in Texas for 3 and 4 day cruises as well. We need to step up the Texas market.

Is there even enough room in the channel for an Oasis class to turn around? It's pretty tight!

Galveston Cruiser Posted January 29, 2014 #12 Share Posted January 29, 2014 Voyager Class length - 1020 Ft. Freedom Class length - 1112 Ft. Minimum width of channel per port statistics - 1200 ft. Don't have a width at the turning basin, but seems a Freedom class could fit. Watched Carnival Magic turn Sunday afternoon, but she is only 1004 Ft. in length. The turning basin is past the yacht club but before the Dole docks and the drilling rig museum. Lots of room to turn:) The "1200 Ft". is the "minimum" width of the channel, not at the turning basin. ssb Posted January 29, 2014 #21 Share Posted January 29, 2014 (edited) Appears area is before Ferry landing after drilling rig museum, after Dole, along side out of and after Marina. Where Magic turned I not sure exactly. But it looks very positive and there is plenty of room already there in a long span of the channel.:) Only question is depth and width and any dredging that would be needed and where (if any, if any)? The depth and width of minumum channel is already there for any of larger RCCL ships. Edited January 29, 2014 by ssb
