What to do in Tampa, Fl for the day until late flight.

Rent a car for the day with drop off at TPA, put the bags in the trunk, and then head to where you want. Clearwater & St Petersburg are fun - lots to see & do (dining, shopping, etc.) in addition to the beach.

Busch Gardens Amusement park is another option on the southern side of Tampa if you are cruising with kids. There is also an aquarium near the port, but it will not keep you entertained until your flight.

Hertz, Avis and Enterprise have locations close to the port; if you get a better deal from some other agency at TPA an Uber to the airport from the port is about $20

Check out the Aquarium. They will hold your bags. They have a couple of tours through there also that will easily take up your day. That is what we are doing. I found a resort for a day daypass at the Hyatt in Clearwater. I think you would want to rent a car for that. That was my first choice but the child won. Busch Gardens probably isn't worth it. It doesn't even open until 10. Seems like a lot of work to get there for not much time in the actual park.

ybor city nearby (trolley is only like 2$). historic area with great food. that is a few hours if you want to combine it with the aquarium. also next to the port is the Victory Ship which is an old war ship restored that you can tour. between all 3 of those should cover the time. if you don't get off the ship in the first group then this should fill most of your time. then you can take uber to the airport. as long as its domestic, no need to get there before 5. busch gardens is fun. but it is EXHAUSTING and hot. and EXPENSIVE.

you could rent a car and go out to the beaches (not sure if that is something you want to do after having just gone to some beaches).

Agreed. Option 1 - aquarium (something like $20 per person) and then Ybor (shops, bars), then uber to airport. It might be hard to stretch the day though. Option 2 - rent a car and drive around (go west to Clearwater beach, then south along the Gulf boulevard to see all the beaches along, then maybe stop in Ft Desoto and drive over the Skyway bridge and back and if that wasn't enough stop in downtown St Pete). I'd probably chose option 2 so you have more freedom, and since you have the whole day to kill.
