How?

Can some1 please tell me how to post pics? Thank you! :)

Questions first:

Do you have your pictures posted somewhere on the internet?

Posting a link from an online photosharing site like PBase, Google Web Albums, SmugMug or Photobucket is best.

If not, you can upload a picture (620x280 max) from your hard drive by using the attachment feature. Click on the little paper clip in the top row of icons in the Reply to Thread window and use the Browse feature to find the file. It will upload from your computer and, after closing the attachment manager window, will appear in the drop-down list when you click on the paper clip again. Position your cursor where you want the picture, click the paper clip to drop down the list and click on the picture that you want to insert in your text. Voila!

That method sucks a little because it gives a tiny thumbnail like this:

353274371_Alaska1186-ColtIslandBeach.jpg.1eeebd7ecd0cf200a941839d57f4f610.jpg

and you have to manually type "click the thumbnail for a larger picture"!

If you have your pics on a photosharing site, check your site's help section on how to "link" or "direct link" to a web site (some sites don't allow linking, so check before you join one). The link feature will give you a string similar to this:

http://www.pbase.com/pierce324/image/54412810/large.jpg

Copy the string and come back to your Cruise Critic post and click on the little Yellow and grey icon in the second row ("Insert Image", just below and to the right of the paper clip). It will pop up a dialog box where you paste the string you copied. Depending on the size you specified when your site made the link, your picture will appear like this:

large.jpg

Much better, eh?

Good luck!

Dave

My pleasure!

Of the sites I mentioned, I use both Google/Picasa and Pbase with the majority on PBase.

Picasa is free from Google and so are the web albums if you sign up for their (free again) gmail. They allow you iGB of space which is enough for most anyone.

Pbase is $23/yr for 500mb of space which will hold 1000s of pics like the larger one above. It allows you more control of your galleries than Google/Picasa.

Whichever you choose, you should download Picasa from Google to use as a photo organization tool. It is easy and very effective for sorting and even simple touch-ups for exposure and issues like red-eye. Oh, and it too is free!

Here are links to my PBase and Google accounts so you can compare if you wish.

I just joined SmugMug, and am IN LOVE with it! At first I was hesitant about actually paying for a photo hosting service, but now I have NO regrets. No ads, my friends don't have to sign in to see the pics, and UNLIMITED pics are allowed. I love the customization features too.

It's normally $39.95 a year, but if anyone wants a $5.00 off coupon, you can use this code: bldGwmyYFipHc

I too also have a Webshots site, but I can't take the ads anymore, or the having to scroll the screen everytime a new pic comes up.

Ok enough about Smugmug....I guess I'm just happy to be happy for something I wouldn't normally pay for! LOL :p

This is the case where you do get what you pay for. I agree with your assessment of Webshots.

Thanks for starting this thread - I've learned so much, but...

Now that I can post a pic directly on the thread, how do I make it somewhat smaller??? I know how do insert thumbnail images, but this pic is a bit too large!!

As for the photo - it was taken from a helicopter in Grand Cayman last year.

Thanks for any help,

slukas

I think I got it!

Cruise Critic posters have a wealth of information! I used photobucket. I tried PBase, but it was a bit confusing for me because I'm computer challenged!

I already have a paid subscription to kodakgallery, but could not link photos from that site.

Try Picasa Web Albums from Google. I personally use PBase more, but for quick and easy, it's hard to beat Google!

Picasaweb: http://picasaweb.google.com/home

You'll need to download a free copy of Picasa organizing software (truly excellent!) and get a free GMail account to use your free web albums.

Great price, eh?

Here're my Picasa Web albums if you want to see what they look like: http://picasaweb.google.com/pierce324

Happy Shooting!

I have not been successful with posting my pictures here from Picasa. I love the picasa program for everything else though. I can put in thumbnails from my computer to these boards, or I can post a link to my pictures. I followed the directions for posting, but somehow either Picasa or CC does not seem to like me.

Picasa has an odd embedding string made for blog pages and regular HTML pages rather than the code used for the "Insert Image" button.

Google's string fir "HTML to embed in Website"

<a href=''hxxp://picasaweb.google.com/pierce324/SunriseSunset/photo#5043800264388206066''><img src="hxxp://lh3.google.com/pierce324/Rf8tngThXfI/AAAAAAAABe4/4CBvmeVGngc/s400/Alaska%202006%20-%20Day%203%20-%20Juneau%20043.JPG'' /></a>

Note that I replaced the "http:" at the beginning of the address strings with "hxxp:" so the forum doesn't auto-edit it. You won't need to do that.

Paste into Word or Notepad and cut or copy the "src=" part of the string without the quotation marks as in red below. It will always look similar to what you see here.

<a href=''hxxp://picasaweb.google.com/pierce324/SunriseSunset/photo#5043800264388206066''><img src="hxxp://lh3.google.com/pierce324/Rf8tngThXfI/AAAAAAAABe4/4CBvmeVGngc/s400/Alaska%202006%20-%20Day%203%20-%20Juneau%20043.JPG'' /></a>

Click on the Insert Image button and paste that part of the string into the dialog box that pops up.

This is what you get (depending on the size that you chose):

Alaska%202006%20-%20Day%203%20-%20Juneau%20043.JPG

Not as easy as PBase, but it works just fine for as often as I post to here.

Happy shooting!
