Chicagogirlie Posted February 12, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 12, 2009 Any family booked on this Celebrity cruise? Anyone thinking about this trip? stuniel Posted February 12, 2009 #2 Share Posted February 12, 2009 Hi there, I have been wondering if anyone else have signed up for this cruise. We just did last week and there are a few friends going as well. I believe it is going to be better in certain ways than Alaska. I have always wanted to go and cannot wait to see what excursions are available. Are you going with the Pied Piper group?
Chicagogirlie Posted February 12, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted February 12, 2009 Hi Stuniel, I didn't have a clue that Pied Piper was on this cruise. What a bonus! I'm looking at their site now and see that the prices are considerably lower than booking directly with Celebrity. Looks like I'm canceling my reservations and booking with Pied Piper! Thanks for the info! Nancy

I'll have to do a little research. I've gone with Atlantis before which I found to be very liberating.

I've gone with Atlantis before which I found to be very liberating. I have to admit, we have never done the group cruise either, however I hear it is very nice and I would not be surprized if it feels somewhat liberating as well. My TA have told me that they often would arrange exclusive excursions just for the group, which would be great. I am very excited to go out between the icebergs in a Zodiac. Niel Yeah, I'd love to get on a Zodiac and do that. I didn't see that listed in the example .pdf list of excursions for this cruise but I'm sure they'll be tinkering with the list of excursions. Are your friends that are going on the cruise on Cruise Critic? No they are not on the board yet, but I am sure they sneek peeks at it.:) I could not find the shore excursions for that particular cruise. Maybe too far ahead? I saw pictures of the Zodiacs going exploring. Right now we are sorting clothes for the upcoming trip to the Caribbean next weekend on the Eurodam. Cannot wait to get out fo the cold and into warmern weather AND sun.
Chicagogirlie Posted February 14, 2009 Author #8 Share Posted February 14, 2009 We've booked with Pied Piper! Thanks a bunch Stuniel! Now I get to go with the gays and I save money! Have fun on your cruise next week!
Chicagogirlie Posted February 16, 2009 Author #9 Share Posted February 16, 2009 Ah, and btw...the cruise excursion list I was referring to was the general S.American brochure they have. It'll give us an idea of some of the excursions they may be offering us. http://www.celebritycruises.com/search/shorexSearchResults.do;jsessionid=0000f0OOkH09bVdzRu_4sUyNC7J:12hdbcuh7?backPageUrl=%2Fplancruise%2FshoreExcursions%2Fhome.do&DestinationCode=SAMER&DurationCode=&ActivityTypeId=&ActivityLevel=&shipCode=&Day=&Month=&Year=&CurrencyCode=USD&x=45&y=
DenvCruiser Posted February 17, 2009 #10 Share Posted February 17, 2009 Are you familiar with gay group cruising? I had to admit I'm not. I'll have to do a little research. I've gone with Atlantis before which I found to be very liberating. I was on a 14-day Pied Piper Baltic cruise this past June on the Celebrity Constellation. I enjoyed the cruise, the Pied Piper passengers, and the Pied Piper escorts. The cruise was completely different than an Atlantis or RSVP all-gay cruise. Celebrity is an old-school cruise line. The passengers like to dress up. I was told the dress code is enforced. Celebrity also has early and late seating. We ate as a group at late seating. You do not eat when and with whom you please, unless you plan it in advance. Pied Piper had three cocktail parties for our group, which allowed people to get to know each other. They also suggested several excursions in different ports. The Pied Piper escorts were great at organizing the tours and keeping us informed of what was happening. I would definitely sail Pied Piper again. Greg

DallasSteve Posted March 16, 2009 #12 Share Posted March 16, 2009 Hi all. I am really torn between this cruise and one that goes around the southern tip of South America. What confuses me about this cruise is the actual Antarctica part. It sounds like all we do is just sail by without any chance to get off the ship. Can anyone confirm that? Are there ANY shore excursion options that allow an actual walk on the continent??? Thanks. DallasSteve
Chicagogirlie Posted March 20, 2009 Author #13 Share Posted March 20, 2009 Thanks for the tips Greg! DallasSteve: You may want to check out this thread and ask some one there. It's the roll call in the Celebrity section of the forums: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?p=18631761#post18631761 This is the first time that Celebrity is going by Antarctica and it's early yet to check out the shore excursions on their site. Princess does these drive bys and from what I understand they have excursions that involve hopping into a zodiac to get to Antarctica itself. I'm hoping Celebrity will offer the same. 2saskguys Posted July 14, 2009 #16 Share Posted July 14, 2009 Hi everyone...Wes and Brett here and we've been booked on this cruise for awhile! Looking forward to getting away from the very cold (and wind swept) Canadian prairies (we've got two weeks in Buenos Aires before the cruise and will be flying up to the Iguazu Falls for a couple of nights). Looking forward to this cruise!
Bayotter Posted September 13, 2009 #17 Share Posted September 13, 2009 Hi all, I will be joining you, along with my parents. This will be my fourth Pied Piper cruise, and my parent's second. I will be traveling solo. As far as I can tell from the official Celebrity itinerary, we do not land on Antarctica. We cruise along places where we will, hopefully, see great scenery and wildlife, both in the water and out. Having zodiac boats would sure be great, but I am not sure they can manage to accommodate the large number of people on the ship who would want to go. There are no shore excursions listed for Antarctica at this time. But if anyone learns anything new about this, post the results here. I sure hope they can get us to land, because that would be a real thrill! I am looking forward to meeting you all. Jamie Note to Moderator: There is another thread for this cruise out there with a bad typo concerning the date. Perhaps it would be nice to merge that thread into this one if possible? -thanks
camusboy1 Posted September 20, 2009 #18 Share Posted September 20, 2009 We haven't decided whether we'll be going or not. I guess the final decision will be based on how our October Panama Canal cruise with Pied Piper. It's my understanding that we will cruise only along Antarctica with no excursions. I hope I'm wrong. I'll let you guys know if we'll be coming! Blair (and Steve)
Bayotter Posted September 24, 2009 #19 Share Posted September 24, 2009 If you all would like to learn a little something about Antarctica, especially Elephant Island around which we will be sailing, get the movie documentary "The Endurance". It's available with Netflix. It's about Shackleton's expedition. It's a fascinating story and the movie is done well.
graycottag Posted September 25, 2009 #20 Share Posted September 25, 2009 Unless you are on a small (120/150) passenger cruise ship your chances of landing in Antarctica are extremely slim. There is an international agreement that limits the people landing onshore. My daughter did a study abroad last year that spent two weeks sailing along the coast and various islands. Because they were on a small ship, they were able to land two to three times a day. About half of their ship was over age 60, and there were two student groups, so they could go anytime they wanted with some choosing to go all the time, and some maybe only once a day, if that. If you really want to have the experience of a lifetime, save up and plan a trip in December/January/February. She was on a Quark Expeditions ship and said it was fantastic. A bit spartan, and not at all what we have experienced on Princess, but she said the thrill of literally walking among 10,000 + penguins makes up for any inconvenience. That company sails out of Ushaia in Patagonia.
vivavino Posted September 27, 2009 #21 Share Posted September 27, 2009 Just a quick hello to the board to say I'm booked, and looking forward to it. I'll be part of the PP group. My understanding is that landings on Antartica are prohibited for large ships, so we just get a driveby. :-)

Malmö Posted October 11, 2009 #25 Share Posted October 11, 2009 Hej! We are on the Infinity around South America cruise in December. While the nearest we come to Antarctica is Cape Horn, you are welcome to check back on other aspects. We are only a group of 4, and no one has joined our gay thread, but we will have lots of experiences to report before you take your cruise. Hope that helps, and sorry for "butting in". :o Philipp' & Scott
