anyone travelled with knitting needles in checked luggage and on cruise?

Sailing soon and my oldest likes to knit. A few years ago, without thinking, she packed her knitting needles in carry-on luggage and the airport gave her a hard time and that has scared her and she is afraid to travel with them.

Has anyone travelled with them and if so, have you had any problems if they are in checked luggage?

Thanks!

Crewsweeper and Debbie: Thanks for the link to TSA and the personal experience! I will encourage her to bring her knitting... in her checked luggage just to be safe....as i don't think she has overcome the fear that airport security will detain us and question us again! :)

I flew a few weeks ago with double-pointed, metal needles (aka, the kind everyone advises AGAINST travelling with), in my purse, as a carry-on. Not a peep, either in the Denver airport or in Anchorage on the way home. I've been knitting for...um, 4-5 years? and no one has ever said a word.

That said, apparently international flights are much tougher. I wouldn't know about that.

This was a domestic flight. She was only 12 or 13 and they detained us (myself and my two daughters) for a while and she was so scared she said "mom...just tell them to throw them away...it's ok...I don't want to be in trouble!" She was almost in tears.

I appreciate the positive feedback from those who have travelled with them successfully. Perhaps we were the anomaly.
