Casino on the Cheap... How does that Work? Recommendations? What Do You Do?

Ok on the slot machine there will be a row of buttons that you can select the number of lines you want to play. Under that row is another row of buttons that you can select how much you want to bet per the lines that you selected. They recommend plaing the maximum number of lines. So the machine may have 1,3,5,7 or 9 lines you can select from. And the amount could be 1,2,3,5,10 or 20 per line. So if you play 9 lines at 5 per line you would be betting 45 cents per spin.

thanks... that's starting to make sense...

i haven't ever found 2c or 5/10c whatever... just the 25... maybe i missed them?

if those were on the 25c machines, i missed it. thanks for trying to clarify for me :D

and on the slots (i think they're rigged pretty steep)... and quickly realized this wasn't an equitable enterprise... :o

As much as people will tell you that they change the slots payouts every night, this is simple not true. The cruise lines follow the same rules set down by the nevada gaming commission. They are not required to but they do. The payout rates are the same as land based casinos in nevada.

When I worked in gaming in Nevada a good friend of mine left to work on slots on both carnival and RCI, He told me the real truth about about slots on ships and it sounds just like the information in land based casinos.

Not all the slots have lines and bets........the quarter and dollar machines have just bets....

So you can play a 2 bet quarter machine for less then a max penny machine.........just a thought....

bingo... and no, i don't mean that other game... ;)

i think i've always just overlooked them... i've never played anything less than 25c... :D

so... how do you know how many lines the machine allows / you're supposed to play? is it posted or something?

and i assume, you just tell it... i want x amount of lines... and it arranges them for you?

the thing i like least about the cruise ship slots is there's no choice... they just do what they're programmed to do... which is why i think they're mildly rigged :D

your system seems to work for you... but... the lines.. please.. what?

You really are a rookie:p What machines did you play on a ship:confused: Because they are not programmed to do what they want.........

Every machine has buttons.......lines and bets...pretty self explanatory.......

First of all there is not lesser currency then pennies:p

But I think we pretty much explained how the lines and bets work......

Good luck!

i just meant lesser than 25c... not lesser than pennies :)

i don't gamble much at all... and thanks for your insight, and wishes for good luck :D

i'll toast to ya if it works out...

i am :o

as aforementioned, several times... i don't do this... just while on the ship... :)

but on destiny at least, most recently... on the slots, you couldn't pick the anything... you press the button to start them rollin', but they stopped whenever they want. you couldn't press the buttons in front of each reel to stop em when you wanted.

press the button to start, then you get what it gives ya.

as a gambling rookie, are you tellin me that ain't so on other ships (pride, please lol)...

thanks for your input, i really appreciate it...

and i had read that they weren't governed by the same sorts of regulatory oversight, and that cruise ship casinos were thereby not as ambivalent...

and i noted the same with my limited experience :o

i'd be glad to think it were the same as in vegas, but am not entirely convinced.

i know, at least, roulette is not as amicable as in vegas.... :D

actually... after loosing so much cash in the casino, including on the slots without choices as i noted... (which i maintain), i justified... hell, i could drink more than that in a few hours.... and proceeded to the piano bar... where i did... :D

i was miffed with the .25 slots with destiny... put money in, press a button to start, no choices on when to stop. i stand by that...

that's why i was miffed... ;)

how's that typically work out for you? and per the way carnival plays it, how much is luck, and how much is strategy?

i realize some of their casino practices favors the house... such as in blackjack (constant shuffling)... how does that impact poker? in your opinion? :)

mostly luck but their is a good bit of strategy involved depending on the type of player you are (loose, aggressive..etc..) their practices are worse then most land based casinos, they take out ALOT of rake..i think its 10% up to $7..just crazy:eek: and in speaking with the casino manger about that and also their payoffs on video poker(BAD as opposed to AC) he basically said it's not like you can go to the other casino and play..

falkcor- you are always so quick to jump in and help answer people's cruising questions. I think you are starting to get the answers you are looking for, but let me jump in and see if I can help.

First- it sounds like the quarter slots you played simply had three reels (columns of numbers)- with one number or character in each reel.

Basically, if you got three of a kind going across, or some combination with a "wild", you win.

With a penny slot machine you are talking about, there are usually 5 or more reels, and three rows.

It is usually setup so the center row is line 1, the top row is line 2, bottom row is line 3. From there, it is typically diagonal lines (think tic-tac-toe), or some zig-zag pattern. You just have to look at the machine to see the different lines, as they can be different.

The one I am most familar with- there usually winds up being 9 lines total. So, there are nine different ways you can win if you play all lines.

There are buttons on the machine to choose the number of lines you want to play. If you play one line, you only win on line 1. If you play 3 lines, you can win on lines 1-3, etc.

There are also buttons to choose the bet you want to play per spin- 1x, 2x, 3x, 5x, 10x... Again, the maximum varies by machine.

So then you spin-

for each line that YOU PLAYED,

and you have a winning combination,

you win the number of credits for that combination times the amount you bet per line.

For example, say you play 9 lines, x10. That is 90 cents.

On line 1, you have five red sevens.

If the payout for 5 red sevens is 1000 credits (a credit in this case is a penny, so that is 10.00), you would get 10,000 credits, or $100.00.

If you have other winning lines that you played, you get those as well.

I hope this makes sense....

Just remember........the payout is not the same as Vegas.........

well that stands contrary to the previous poster's comments re: nevada gaming laws...

but i understand that...

and as aforementioned, i'm not looking for a payout...

i just want to have fun in the casino for a bit and not lose too much...

but really i'd be happy to play roulette without the exorbitant outside bets (relatively), plus addition of the french 0/00 thing on roulette. :)

thanks for that recognition. i try to do as much whenever i can ;)

this isn't one of those... i have no experience to work off of here and am just looking for some opinions / experience... and i'm planning a cruise for friends/family :o

First- it sounds like the quarter slots you played simply had three reels (columns of numbers)- with one number or character in each reel.

you're entirely right. 3 reels... and on destiny, i pressed a button to start them going... but they stopped where they wanted to... i couldn't press a button to stop them... which i thought defeated the purpose... this was on the quarter slots, yes.

With a penny slot machine you are talking about, there are usually 5 or more reels, and three rows.

i never played a penny slot machine, which is, in part, the nature of my inquiry. 5 or more reels is news to me. thank you for your insight. i don't know how those work.

It is usually setup so the center row is line 1, the top row is line 2, bottom row is line 3. From there, it is typically diagonal lines (think tic-tac-toe), or some zig-zag pattern. You just have to look at the machine to see the different lines, as they can be different.

again, new to me. thank you again. i will make not of as much, and try to figure it all out ;)

The one I am most familar with- there usually winds up being 9 lines total. So, there are nine different ways you can win if you play all lines.

i'm going to try that :)

Again, the maximum varies by machine.

now this is all new to me, again, not used to the less than .25 machines. heck, it could have been an option for them that i missed... but as aforementioned, i'm not a big gambler, i'm just looking as to how to effectively spend time in the casino without dropping too much...

So then you spin-

for each line that YOU PLAYED,

and you have a winning combination,

you win the number of credits for that combination times the amount you bet per line.

I hope this makes sense....

it's starting to make sense :)

and moreso than any other response i've got, in full (no offense to anybody else that has responded to me, thank you all!!!!). but thanks for taking the time to offer your insight, i appreciate it.

I know this will sound silly, but although DH and I are not gamblers, we have decided on our next cruise that we will each take $10 a day and play the slots. At the end of the cruise we will see who comes out with the most money. I do not plan on replaying any of my winning, but I am cruious to see how we each make out. We just want to have some fun.
