TwoWeebles Posted September 8, 2009 #1 Share Posted September 8, 2009 When you include airfare in the booking of your cruise, why does it seem so darn expensive? Is RCI making money off of it, or are they just giving a generic price until they book the actual flight and find out the real price and then will they adjust your bill accordingly? I can find much cheaper airfare on my own, but I wanted it to be all in one booking to keep it cleaner/easier.
Gonzo70 Posted September 8, 2009 #2 Share Posted September 8, 2009 Yes, they do make money off the airfare. It is usually more economical to book the airfare on your own.
alicam Posted September 8, 2009 #3 Share Posted September 8, 2009 Unfortunately "cleaner/easier" comes with a price...this is what they are charging to do the work that you or a TA could do
Sue L Posted September 8, 2009 #4 Share Posted September 8, 2009 also if you don't pay the $75 per person custom air fee then you don't have any say in the times or the number of stops for your flights. Most cases it is easier and cheaper to book the air your self.
ribarfly Posted September 8, 2009 #5 Share Posted September 8, 2009 RCL is quoting sometimes a year in advance depending on your cruise date, they are always on the high side but they do include all the transfers to get you to & from the ship. If you are flying the day of your cruise it is safer to book with them that way it is their responsibility to get you to the ship if there is a problem. I typically book their air and as the cruise gets closer I book the air myself, always much cheaper and cancel theirs, but keep in mind we always go a day or 2 ahead so we don’t miss the ship. springtxbill Posted September 8, 2009 #7 Share Posted September 8, 2009 They hedge the prices on the high side. Book with the air and then find your own for a lot less. You can cancel the air part up to final booking. You should be able to pay for the hotel the night before with what you save on the air.:)
