fairness Posted September 8, 2009 #1 Share Posted September 8, 2009 February 2008, we bought a 7 day cruise on the AIDA_CARA,itenerary dubai to muscat-abu dhabi-bahrein-dubai. due to a forecasted sandstorm, the captain decided to cancel the part abu-dhabi to bahrein and back to dubai, instead we went straight from abu -dhabi to dubai, the harbour which we did visit already. ---so we missed about one third of the total cruise mileage--, and no visit to bahrein-- We feel that we out of fairness and reasonableness are entitled to some compensation. however -- after writing to the travel agency----CRUISE- TRAVEL---in putten(THE NETHERLANDS) and to AIDA- company in ROSTOCK,( germany).----(the cruise-company must have saved about one third of their fuel!)---AIDA answers: It is an act of nature,so we can not compensate, sorry, CRUISE travel --- sorry,-- we cannot either. In the EU- brochure isbn-92-79-03547-9- is written-on page 12--As your holiday does not come up to the promise in the brochure--then the tour operator must compensate---,we understand-- if AIDA would compensate us ,then they should compensate an other 800 passengers --- ,say about 800 times 100 ot 150 euro per passenger?! ---- we ask experienced travellers ,travel consumer specialists or lawyers for advise, thank you very much in advance .greetings , fairness. If you miss a port due to bad weather you won´t find any cruise line that would give you any kind of compensation. But if there is a technical problem with the ship, f.e. a broken pod, you have a good chance getting a compensation as we got a very reasonable compensation by Celebrity once. catharina Posted December 17, 2009 #5 Share Posted December 17, 2009 ha landgenoot Answer from a dutch travel agent: it is highly unusual to get any compensation for missed ports or changed itinerary. It is always: 'onder voorbehoud'. (changes can be made, in dutch) If Aida says no, Cruisetravel is not going to pay for it. There is always the geschillen commissie if you do not agree with the outcome of your compliant. But since the itinerary is always onder voorbehoud, I highly doubt this will have any effect. Good luck, and try not to put too much energy in this! Try another cruise next time and enjoy all your travels Greetings Cat
