Urban trekker Posted September 9, 2009 #2 Share Posted September 9, 2009 Grocery stores don't sell beer or liquor in BC so I will answer this way - about three blocks up Robson at Richards there is an IGA market place - full grocery store - there is a private beer and wine store in the Westin Grand which is a block away - higher prices than the government stores but usually longer opening hours and Sundays and holidays as well. Closest government store is a good six or more blocks away. Cheers Dennis
gotonana Posted September 23, 2009 #3 Share Posted September 23, 2009 We have the same situation but our hotel is on 718 Drake Street. If the 6 blocks are in our direction that would be great! :)
Urban trekker Posted September 23, 2009 #4 Share Posted September 23, 2009 "We have the same situation but our hotel is on 718 Drake Street" You are staying at the Best Western Downtown so there are some closer options - across the street there is an 7 - 11 if you don't mind higher prices if it just a few items - there is a Choices market three blocks away at Richards and Davie - they are more of a whole food marketplace but the basics will be there - as for beer or wine - there is a private liquor store two doors down Granville from the hotel - open until 11PM every night - closest government store is only open until 6PM most nights. Don't forget to have a meal at the White Spot in the hotel and if you get Phillipe as your waiter tell him that Dennis says hi. gotonana Posted September 27, 2009 #5 Share Posted September 27, 2009 Thank you so much for the information. It was very helpful. I looked on the BC Liquor site and the closest government store is .8km. I don't see anyone in our group lugging wine bottles that far after three airports and customs. Putterdude Posted September 27, 2009 #7 Share Posted September 27, 2009 Unless things have changed very recently the liquor store at the Vancouver Airport is a private one called West Coast Liquor. If you are coming into the city via taxi you could have your cabbie stop at the BC Liquor Store in the Safeway Plaza at 70th and Granville. However by the time you pay for the waiting time you may be just as well off to pay the higher price at the private store.;)
