Harrah's casino hotel

I'm sailing on the Triumph in March 2010. My cabinmate works for Harrah's and is seeing if we get a favorable rate.

What I want to know if anyone stayed at the Harrah's casino hotel. How are the rooms and how close is the casino to the pier and other places of intrest?

We cruised out of NO in August. Most of the family had rooms at the Springhill Suites, but my parents had a room at Harrahs Hotel, which is right across from the casino. There was no comparison. Their room was really a lot nicer than ours. (Our room was ok, but not even the same league.) Harrahs is conveniently located. We walked from our hotel to theirs and also to Bourbon Street with no problem.

While the Springhill Suites was closer to the pier where Fantasy was docked (2 blocks away), a taxi is necessary with luggage even if you are closer. My parents were going to take the street car to the pier, as they were told that was an option, but a taxi pulled up and they opted for that ($6 each person flat rate).

You will not be disappointed if you get a room there. Enjoy your cruise.

While I can't vouch for the inside of the hotel, the location seems to be very conveniently located to where you can walk to the French Quarter and can walk to the pier.

Heres a tip for those walking to the pier (maybe I should post this as a new thread?) - Go to the entrance to the Riverwalk Mall and take the escalator up. Enter the mall and head right. Walk all the way to the end and exit out the back. Go down the big blue stairs and the pier is now immediately at your right. No busy streets to cross or walk along.

We made it with our luggage from the pier to the Courtyard no problem.

Stayed there last year - husband was given a comped room. What a surprise when we checked into a suite, which was absolutely beautiful!!!! Living room, dining area, bedroom, & a HUGE bathroom. The location was great & we took a cab to the pier. Pier was very close but didn't want to drag luggage.

Oh, ultimately we paid dearly for the suite with casino loses, but it was still nice.

That's what always happens to me when I go there for "free" parking

Harrah's Hotel is beautiful and has a great location. If you can get a room comped there I'd do it in a heartbeat!!

Thanks!! The only downside is we are renting a car and have to return it to the airport prior to boarding the ship. If I didn't have my heart set on eating at Deanie's again, we would just hang downtown. But still have to catch a taxi or shuttle to the downtown area.

We're on the Triumph March 29, and Harrah's comped my mom a room. Their hotel was full, but they offered a choice of several other hotels in the same block to her. So even if the hotel shows no vacancy, check with their Rewards Center for alternate hotels.

You are more than right on this. Harrah's is fantastic in NO. The location is close to all the French Quarter activity, the rooms are fabulous, the casino is very nice. And overall NO is a great place to visit. I have been many times and I have never been disappointed.

We are taking a cruise in March on the NCL Spirit. We are driving to New Orleans and have a comp'd room at Harrahs the night before our cruise. Does anyone know if we could leave our car in the Harrahs parking garage for a week while we are on the cruise...no charge?
