espmass Posted January 2, 2005 #1 Share Posted January 2, 2005 When we cruise we generally prefer to just grab a cab and go to our destination rather than use the ship's excursions. We usually get the same trip for a fraction of the price and go at our own pace and times. This will be our first time visiting Cozumel. Is that a place where a cab can take us to see the ruins or do we need a ship excursion? Thanks.
rosej Posted January 2, 2005 #2 Share Posted January 2, 2005 It kind of depends which ruins you want to see. There are some small ruins on Cozumel. I'm pretty sure a taxi could take you there with no problem. If you want to go to the larger and more impressive ruins of Tulum, you will need to catch a ferry from Cozumel to the mainland. Once there, you could probably catch a cab to Tulum. However, much depends on how long your ship is in port. Tulum is a distance away and you'd probably have to keep close tabs on your time to make it back before the ship sails. If you want to go to Tulum, your best best might be the ship's tour. The Cozumel board of Cruise Critic is quite active with some people who actually live in Cozumel posting to help people coming there. You might want to post your question there.
