Inside cabin sizes on Noordam

Recommended Posts

I am thinking of taking my first solo cruise next year on the Noordam from Ft Lauderdale to Barcelona. For economy reasons, I will probably book an inside or outside cabin. I have noticed that there seems to be a wide variation of cabin sizes for the inside ( about 159 sq. ft. to over 200 sq. ft.).

Can anybody help me with suggestions as to which are the best cabins. I don't care if I am on a high deck, but size does matter, at least somewhat.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

The J-category inside cabins on Main Deck are huge! They are either quad cabins, or are doubles the same size (it varies along the passageway). Do not confuse them with J-cats on other decks. Those are small. Some of the insides on other decks are very, very small. Not enough room to change your mind. ;) If you book an inside, be sure to book one termed a "large inside", as opposed to a "standard inside".

I understand, although I haven't stayed in one, that the K-category cabins on Main are also the quad size.

I also had a fully obstructed on Upper Promenade once. It was quite large, especially as a solo, and had the extra added advantage of those wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling windows. Lots of light!

Well, I took the plunge and booked an inside (Large 'J') on the Main Deck for the Fort Lauderdale to Barcelona cruise next May. :D The TA said that HAL reserved the right to kick me out if they needed it for a family of 4. :( I hope this doesn't happen.

That doesn't seem fair.... is it a guarantee booking?

I have my cabin number so it's not a guarantee. The TA said it was very unlikely that there would be much demand for 3 or 4 to a cabin on a transatlantic repositioning cruise. Hopefully, I'll know more when I get my e-mail confirmation.

HAL might upgrade you in order to sell your current cabin -- which could be a good thing. Kick out is not the correct term -- HAL usually moves people up in category to sell more 'lower priced' cabins -- not just because someone else wants the cabin -- your TA might be the one doing the 'kicking'

We just got off the Noordam - 10 day med -I had booked cabin #1073.

This is a quad on the main deck. great location, large cabin with L-shaped couch. HAL took it upon themselves to upgrade us without our knowing. When I found out I had to have them "kick Out" the family they gave our cabin to so we could get it back. Our upgrade was an outside obstructed view (smaller square footage) so we did not want it, besides we were not on a guarantee! We LOVED cabin 1073.

A family doing a trans-At in May, Wine Taster? I doubt it very much. You will love the size of the cabin.

Tell me, where is it? I was under the Queen's Lounge the first time, so I didn't have any noise. The last time I was under the Casino, and still didn't hear a thing. Had I been under the Northern Lights I might have heard the bass.

I am in J 1049. It appears to be under a crew area (kitchen?) which is across from the Explorers Lounge. Am I in trouble? Since I wear a hearing aid, I don't hear much when I go to bed so it probably doesn't matter.

I agree, I really don't want an 'upgrade' if it means a smaller cabin/higher deck .

Now a verandah would be something else. :D

The Explorers Lounge and galley are aft of the mid-ship elevators; you are forward of them. It looks like you are under the Queens Lounge.

I think I was in this cabin once; if it's the same one, it's quiet.

We're in that same cabin on a Jan. cruise and can't wait to experience it! Inside cabins are just fine with me - and the extra space of this cabin will make the time in the cabin all the more pleasant.

Let me know, Wine Taster, if there's a specific question you want to have answered about the cabin.. . and I do promise to leave it in good shape. However, you'll have to extract similar promises for the cruisers who "come between us".

Congratulations on booking the cruise. I loved our Transatlantic on the Rotterdam!

I stayed in I-6067 on the Upper Verandah deck with my two nieces. The parents were across the hall in the SS. I was surprised at how roomy it was, two beds, couch, and overhead bed. The couch did not convert into a bed so I would imagine the J cabins are larger to handle this. What I loved is that you could open the closet door, open the bathroom door, and still have room to get by, unlike the small walkway that the SS had. I always thought I wouldn't enjoy being in an inside cabin (but the third passenger bargain price convinced me I should try it) and now I've told DH if it's inside or nothing, we're sailing inside!

Thanks for looking out for my cabin ninkb. I expect it to be in excellent shape when I get on board. If not, you will have to book it again to 'red it up'. :D

I'm always ready to book another cruise, no matter the reason! If only my "pockets" were as deep as my wants are large!
