Shopping in PV, Mazatlan & Cabo

Can't help you with PV or Mazatlan, but we love shopping in San Jose Del Cabo which is a short drive north from Cabo San Lucas.

Like you, we like the artisan and local jewelers, etc and San Jose is the best place to walk from shop to shop around the large town square that dates back to the mid-1800's. We have bought all kinds of art, jewelry, and textiles...as well it is a great place for lunch at a place called the Tropicana...a side walk restaurant on the main blvd.

The easiest way to shop San Jose is to hire a private van tour that will take you directly from the tender pier there with a driver that knows his/her way around. We get ours through Johann and Sandra....they advertise on this site. We have had good service through them....they are brokers not tour providers...but their prices are way better than what is available through the cruise lines. Just call them....tell them what you are looking for and they will make the arrangements. By having your own van you control the time and the stops to precisely what you want to do and see.

Most of the shops in San Jose don't open until around 10 am so you don't have to rush right off the ship at 8am....thereby avoiding the 'tender rush'.

Make sure you save time to visit the glass factory which is in Cabo proper. We usually stop there on our way back to the ship. It is a real entertaining experience watching the glass makers and their apprentices.....then you can wander through the warehouse/store and buy anything you like.

Hope you have a great time.

Mazatlan & PV both have large central market areas in their downtown areas where you can shop til you drop at local vendor stalls. Mazatlan is our favorite market of any port. The market is where the locals shop for fresh food as well as other items. Gives you a great view of how the locals live through the food stalls and also affords some great buys from local artisans.

Google the two ports cities and you can find maps of the cities. The markets are located in the older downtown areas of both ports.

Grab a taxi outside the port gates for best taxi prices. Ride should be only a few dollars one way,. There's always taxis down in the market areas to take you back to the ship or any other place you would like to go.

In Mazatlan our favorite time is to take a taxi down to the market area for shopping and then hail a pulmonia (an open air taxi that looks like an overgrown golf cart) to take us over to the cliff divers. Ater viewing the cliff divers for awhile we either hire another pulmonia to take us over to the Golden Zone for more high end shopping or to a local restaurant in the older section of the city.

A pulmonia ride is an excursion in it's own and Mazatlan is known for that form of transportation.

Have a great time. DH & I will be in Mazatlan in about 2 weeks and can't wait to get back there.
