Barcelona to montecarlo??

Recommended Posts

I like staying in Monte Carlo...it is such a different experience. The Hermitage is a gracious..lovely old hotel that has been refurbished continually and is really a delight. I suggest asking for a harbor view..as you just cannot get enough of that staggering vista! You will have breakfast outside if the weather is nice...take your camera along...and walk over to the wall and take pictures that you will cherish! It is not cheap...but worth the $ spent..as it is unique. The Hotel de Paris is just down the street..and very pretentious..and not as nice in my view. The walk down the street to the casino and famous Cafe de Paris is lined with designer shops and great "window shopping"! The Cafe de Paris is great for a drink..perhaps lunch..and people watching. As for touring...the best ambieance is right there..unless you have lots of time. enjoy

Has anyone done this itinerary? If so, how is it? Also post trip hotels. Is it better to stay in Monte Carlo or Nice?

It's a lovely trip although I would much rather have a few days hotel break in Barcelona before than in Monte Carlo afterwards.

Monte Carlo is very overrated and incredibly overpriced in my opinion. Me and some of the crew were going to go out and have lunch there but it was too much paperwork to get the second mortgage to be able to afford it. Nice is a far nice town or you could always spend one night in Monte Carlo, Cannes and Nice.

We have done this itinerary twice on Seabourn, and I agree that you should stay in Barcelona pre-cruise if you have only a limited number of days to vacation, as opposed to Monte Carlo. The Gaudi architecture, the Catalan cuisine, and the wonderful people, make this one of the world's greatest cities.

Monte Carlo is, indeed, overrated. Personally, if I had the time to do Barcelona in advance and some additional days post-cruise, I'd fly to Paris, which is what we did before and after both of the aforementioned cruises.

Denyse

If you are staying in Barcelona, a great hotel is the Gran Marina right at the base of the La Rambla and on the pier.

Just be careful walking up La Rambla at night. Lots of very insistant African hookers and their pimps who will rob you at every opportunity. Do not make eye contact with them, do not talk to them, just ignore them and walk on. Never go there alone at night and even just as a couple as you WILL be robbed. Several of the Seabourn crew had close encounters last year there and I know of a couple of the stewardesses who nealry had their bags snatched. Best off taking a taxi where you want to go and avoid La Rambla at night completely.

Does anyone have any suggestions for Lisbon?. I may not take the one on to Monte Carlo now. Miss Martha has recommended Borges in Lisbon ...are there any other suggestions. I wanted to be close to the shops etc. I was planning to go to Cascais too for the beach. Any suggestions for Cascais ?( It's showing that I only have 12 posts , but I had more than that. )

Have a Happy New Year !!!!

John~~~will you Cross on the Pride or the Legend? If you have booked the Pride please let me know.......(I am preparing my invitation list)

A few of us stayed at the Borges last March. It's a very old Hotel right in the City center. It's not a 5* as we enjoy staying with the natives! (small elevators akin to the type in the movie, "Suddenly Last Summer") As to convenience, the 'ole Borges can not be beaten......it doesn't have a restaurant, but they do serve a simple breakfast in the very old dining room. Shops everywhere!

If you are on the Pride, we disembark on Easter Sunday, so we'll all need to purchase Euros in Funchal.

Hope this helps!

Happy and a safe 2005
