Has anyone drove up to Emerald Lake and Dyea Rd?

Good morning fellow CC's. I just got Murray's travel guide and and wondering how is this ride? I feel a little anxious when I look at the pictures and roads. We are from Texas-it doesn't snow here and our roads are rather flat and easy driving and wide lanes. We will be there in the middle of June next year and can't wait! We are renting a car from Sourdough. Please let me know if you have went down Dyea Road and is it safe? I sure wouldn't want to be run off the narrow road by someone come back the other way if it is just one way and all the curves! Also, is the road from Skagway all the way to Emerald Lake a double lane road?

Thanks in advance for your advise and opinions! I am beginning to think we should take a tour? I don't know why it kind of scared me looking at the pictures. We have been in mountains, but I think it will be different there than other places.

These are mountain roads like any mountain roads, with the possible exception that drivers are more polite than in many places I've been. The Dyea Road has some one-lane sections but everyone drives very slow and when coming to a one-lane, if there's 2 vehicles one pulls into a pull-out bay. The highway from Skagway to Emerald Lake is a major, well-maintained, 2-lane paved highway. Sorry the photos scared you.
