Suite Upgrade sales pitch question

Miss Kellybean

Recommended Posts

I am leaving next week on the Liberty (yay me!) and just got the sales pitch upgrade call. Clearly I know that there really aren't two last minute cancellations as the nice young man mentioned - I am fortunate to have been well informed from this board that these calls are routine to fill the higher class categories in the last few weeks before sailing. I do have a question, though.

Would you do it? I paid only $450 per person for the weeklong trip in a OV room. The upgrade would have been an additional $600 for a suite and $750 for the penthouse. I told him I would have taken it for $300 and I am second guessing myself. I have always been in OV so I wonder if I should just be happy and use the extra cash in the casino and spa- or splurge. They are getting my money anyways, I just wonder if the suite will be worth it. Also, what are the chances of them calling me back to accept my counter offer? Anyone have that experience?

Thanks!

I would do it for $300.00. (total...not per person)

The Upsell Fairy called on our Valor cruise next week and wanted $750.00 for for a Cat 12...but I told them no.

You have to ask yourself, do you spend that much time in the room? I don't. I have been in suites, oceanviews and Insides, I am comfortable on insides as lond as they are high up and close to the pool and buffet. I only use the room to sleep change and>>>> You figure it out:D

I asked my hubby this same question just a few days ago. We have not received a call for our Nov cruise (probably still too early) and have never received one in the past so I asked him, would he do it?

He said he would think about an upgrade/sell to a suite but wouldn't pay more than $300 total to do it. However, we specifically chose our cabin because we liked the location which is mid-ship (DH tends to get sea sick sometimes) Verandah deck. I have looked at open suites available for our week and just based on location, I'm not sure I'd like them any better than where we are now. However, it's a suite that I would probably not be able to afford if I booked one up front.

Even a good deal at $300...that's less money to spend on other stuff and since we've never been in a suite I can't miss what I've never had, ya know? So, would I do it. I just don't know. Ok...that was a lot of words to basically say nothing ;):D

I have read a few posts were they did get a call back. I guess it's just the luck of the draw and how many phone calls they want to make.

I just wish I could figure out how they decide who to call.

Of course $750 pp is about what you would pay for a balcony, so a great price for a suite.

We got the call last week for our Oct. 4th cruise. It was from a balcony to a Cat 11 Suite I believe. Their "offer" was $700 to upgrade 1 room or $1050 to upgrade both rooms. We entertained it for a bit ($1050 to do both rooms...so $525 each room) but ditched it when the guy said we would loose our on board credit from the original promotion we had booked on. That was like "spending" another $200 per room and I didn't want to do that. Plus it would have put the rooms on the same floor but around the corner from each other which would limit my inlaws ability to watch our kids if we went out.

I had originally booked a CAT 11 and less than a week before departure I noticed that the prices had dropped three times in one day. The first time I called they told me an upgrade to Cat 12 would be 500 total for 3 people. Said no. Called again that day they told me it would be 700 total to upgrade, said no again. Called a third time I told them I would pay 200 total for the upgrade to Cat 12 and they said OK.

I talked with 3 different pvp's that day, I guess it just depends on who you get.

If you stated "no upgrade" when you booked, don't expect to get a call.

You would also need to consider in addition to the cost for the upgrade where the cabin is located. If you like midship and the cabin in question is in the front of the ship, I would turn it down.

The amount of money Carnival is willing to accept depends on how badly your existing cabin is needed, how much they can get for the upgrade, how many cabins are unsold, etc.

I have found on the longer trips (12 nights or so) that I do spend more time in my cabin, but that's because I bring an iPod with docking speakers, am in search of a few moments of solitude or just want to linger in the mornings on sea days...On a week long or less, I'm pretty much on the go. They would have to make it mighty enticing for me to cough up more money than I already gave them for my cabin.

Ah, don't second guess yourself, just know you made them an offer, either they accept or they don't.

Personally, when we originally book our cabin we we spend what we wish to spend for that particular cruise. Unless we've gotten subtantial price reductions along the way for the cabin we've booked so there is room between what we first expected to pay and what we paid at final payment the only way we'd accept an upsell offer would be a really great deal for very little additional money.

If they call you back that's great and if not, you have the cabin you wanted anyways;):)

You are right - either way, I got what I wanted.

Miss Kellybean...we got the same call last Thursday morning. We already have a balcony & turned them down. Can do alot more while on vacation with that extra $$.

Have you looked at the rollcall on CC for our 9/26 cruise on the Liberty? If not look at it. We are having a Meet & Greet & it seems like a great group of people. My husband & I have never done any CC Meet & Greets before but are looking forward to it.:D

Woohoo leaving for Miami in 5 days

they called me too. I have a balcony room on spa deck port side (the best side to have on this itenerary) so I am happy with where I am. They offered me an upgrade to a suite for 300.00 more and I turned it down. I do not plan on spending much time in my room other then to shower, take a few naps and get ready for the day. I already spent a small fortune on the balcony room on spa deck so why "upgrade" to a larger room on a lower level and pay more money.
