bleuseas Posted September 24, 2009 #1 Share Posted September 24, 2009 There is a a suspicious looking e-mail in my inbox this morning. It says it's from IRBFAXSL92 (#means nothing to me/not a booking #) and the subject is "Carnival Cruise Lines-IMPORTANT NOTICE". Cruising in just a couple of weeks, stupid me, I opened it and all I see there is an attachment. I haven't opened the attachment yet. Anyone else get an email like this? Would you go further? zerooveride Posted September 24, 2009 #2 Share Posted September 24, 2009 If your unsure, don't ever open an attachment. Contact the sender. In this cse Carnival first.
Whimsy Posted September 24, 2009 #3 Share Posted September 24, 2009 Maybe give Carnival a call. That sounds like a booking number but if it isn't yours I wouldn't open the attachment either.
CenTexGal Posted September 24, 2009 #4 Share Posted September 24, 2009 We have had emails from Carnival that start out with that crazy conglomeration of numbers and letters...ours WERE actually from Carnival. If I remember correctly...that was when they notified us of the Fuel Supplement charge being added on:rolleyes: Hopefully, that is not the case this time!!! GOIRISH33071 Posted September 24, 2009 #5 Share Posted September 24, 2009 Open it. It's about dropping Antigua!
bleuseas Posted September 24, 2009 Author #6 Share Posted September 24, 2009 Thanks, although tempted, I didn't open it. I looked at me reservation and nothing had changed. There wasn't any kind of Carnival logo or link, which I would think would be the norm in an "official" e-mail from Carnival. We're sailing a guarantee & was hoping it was an upgrade (ha!). Going to the Bahamas, so Antigua doesn't affect us. If it's fuel surcharge, nothing we can do, but gas prices are supposedly going down now. kirchubel Posted September 24, 2009 #7 Share Posted September 24, 2009 I was suspicious too. I think Carnival should have had a better way of getting this information. However I did a virus scan. It said that the port of ST KITTS is replacing the port of ANTIGUA on our Eastern Caribbean Cruise. It's actually a photograph of a letter. I went on the website and its replaced on our itinerary too.
CarnivalCruzer Posted September 24, 2009 #8 Share Posted September 24, 2009 Yes, I get emails from Carnival that look like that.
CenTexGal Posted September 24, 2009 #9 Share Posted September 24, 2009 If you are uncomfortable about opening, I would not. But, the one we got from Carnival had NOTHING to indicate it was from Carnival...stupid, in my opinion...the should have their logo on everything they send!! StillPooh Posted September 24, 2009 #10 Share Posted September 24, 2009 Thanks, although tempted, I didn't open it. I looked at me reservation and nothing had changed. There wasn't any kind of Carnival logo or link, which I would think would be the norm in an "official" e-mail from Carnival. Did it address you by name in the salutation? That's how I usually decide if something is real or just phishing.
stay_or_go Posted September 24, 2009 #11 Share Posted September 24, 2009 If it says something like IRBFAXESTAGEN (faxadm@carnival.com) I think it is safe to open and if the attachment is a tiff file then it is probably a letter related to the cruise as that is how I usually get them. Sounds like a fax to me, I have recieved them before. But just to be on the safe side I would call Carnival. :) Luv's Crusin'
Bermuda C Posted September 24, 2009 #13 Share Posted September 24, 2009 Those are from Carnival. I don't know the technical side of things but basically they are faxed messages sent via email. Ok to open.
katiecat Posted September 24, 2009 #14 Share Posted September 24, 2009 They took Antiqua out of our southern cruise starting Jan.3, 2010 and replace it with St.Martins!
Traveler353 Posted September 24, 2009 #15 Share Posted September 24, 2009 Every cruise Carnival sends me the required medical forms (Diabetes) this way. Same sort of address. They are in some mystery format that I can not open on my home or work computer. My request to them to send them some other format or to just fax them to me always comes back "undeliverable". So I now just ignore them. If it is important my PVP always calls me with any updates or changes.
bleuseas Posted September 24, 2009 Author #16 Share Posted September 24, 2009 OK, I opened it. It was a scanned document. They are changing our port time in Freeport by one hour. Wish they'd have made it look more official. Thanks for your help. Hope this helps someone else too.
yesterdaystime Posted September 24, 2009 #17 Share Posted September 24, 2009 I opened mine. It was about a cruise that we have booked for Feb. It notified us about arrival & departure times in one of our ports of call.
deepnite10 Posted September 24, 2009 #18 Share Posted September 24, 2009 did CCL pull out of Antigua as a result of this instance? http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/brooklyn/2009/09/23/2009-09-23_untitled__antigua23k.html
Traveler353 Posted September 24, 2009 #19 Share Posted September 24, 2009 Routing plans are made months even years in advance. I really do not think that the acts of these idiots had anything to do with the new ports schedules.
Gma&Gpa Posted September 24, 2009 #20 Share Posted September 24, 2009 We got the same notice today - also sailing on the Sensation - just a change in the port time for Freeport
LorrieB Posted September 24, 2009 #21 Share Posted September 24, 2009 It is definitely from Carnival. It is an automatic fax message sent to e-mail addresses. We have gotten several and when I contacted Carnival about them, that was their reply.
navybaby1113 Posted September 24, 2009 #22 Share Posted September 24, 2009 Yea, they are very suspicious looking, but they are from Carnival.
LHP Posted September 24, 2009 #23 Share Posted September 24, 2009 did CCL pull out of Antigua as a result of this instance?http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/brooklyn/2009/09/23/2009-09-23_untitled__antigua23k.html No. If that were the case, Carnival would have pulled out of Costa Rica when a group of Senior Citizens were attacked by 4 thugs. obxmidgett Posted September 25, 2009 #24 Share Posted September 25, 2009 we received the same message informing us about port time changes in Freeport. We are on the Sensation in Jan.
Chacooe Posted September 25, 2009 #25 Share Posted September 25, 2009 Maybe give Carnival a call. That sounds like a booking number but if it isn't yours I wouldn't open the attachment either. All Carnival booking numbers are 4 numbers and 2 letters, like mine are 00KM00 (this is an example)
