kt0331 Posted September 28, 2009 #1 Share Posted September 28, 2009 Has anyone used this service to get around Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park? I really would like some more freedom than a cruise sponsored tour and this seemed like a good option. Does anybody have any details or think it is a good idea? SailBadtheSinner Posted September 28, 2009 #2 Share Posted September 28, 2009 When is your cruise in October? The Island Explorer is a seasonal service and only runs to Columbus Day Monday, 10/12. You only need IE for Acadia National Park; Bar Harbor is small and easy to walk,
judeg Posted September 28, 2009 #3 Share Posted September 28, 2009 Hi there, we used the buses earlier this month and they were an excellent way to explore acadia park and feel like one of the locals! They start from the village green in glorious Bar Harbor, and are frequent, clean and have very friendly and helpful drivers, The buses are free - a $5 per person entry ticket to the park from the bus kiosk by The Green, which we thought was obligatory and so brought, was never checked, so thats up to you! As mentioned before they only run til October 12th and Bar Harbor is beautiful and easy to walk round. See all the details of the Island Explorer at http://www.exploreacadia.com, and we could also recommend Oli's Trolley service from Bar Harbor if you want a narrated tour, we really enjoyed the one hour Cadillac Mountain tour - see http://www.acadiaislandtours.com . Have a great time, we did!!!!
kt0331 Posted September 29, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted September 29, 2009 The cruise is this Saturday (10/3) - doing some last minute research. Thanks both for the responses. Was debating between renting bikes or going with the bus. I just worry about being restricted to a tour.
