Dining Reservations: Crown Grill and Chef's Table, where to make reservations

I am interested in making reservations for the Chef's Table, and Crown Grill once we board. I was wondering, where do I make such reservations. I've read to use the dine phone, I've read that reservations can't be made till 2 pm, I've read if you want to dine at Crown Grill to go to the restaurant directly, and I've read if you want to book Chef's Table, to go to the concierge or customer service desk. I am assuming "all of the above" are correct, but still looking for clarification, or consistency, on where should I reserve, once I board. I guess I can try the dine phone first, but if they are not ready for reservations, then what? Thanks.

Since the Chefs table is the most sought after and very limited I would hunt down a head waiter or MD and make the res with him ASAP after boarding. They are usually at the specialty restaurants.

I was on the Emerald this past spring, and shortly after boarding, I went to the Crown Room itself and they had someone at the door taking reservation requests. I made mine for the first formal night. Once I got into the restaurant for my reservation, I realized I'd made a tiny little mistake. I should have specified that I wanted a table against the window. Where I sat wasn't bad by any means, I just think that in the future I'll ask for a table by a window.

I do think however, that you'd be better off making your reservation in person rather by phone. In person, you're standing there and can see that the person is making your reservation for the correct night & time you want.

You can call the Dine Line once you board the ship to make reservations for the Chef's Table and you can call that same line any time during the cruise to make reservations for the Crown Grille. We are just off the Crown Princess and we made the reservations for the Crown Grille the same day we wanted to eat there.

Just off the Golden and just after boarding, I called the Dine Line for reservations at the Crown Grill. Only problem was that no one could tell me the theme for each night so that I could choose which night to book. I tried one of the bars, an anytime restaurant during lunch and the purser's desk and no one could tell me. I guessed and made the reservation for what turned out to be the night that eggplant parmesan was offered and that was one of our favorites, so I cancelled the specialty reservation.

Just returned from the Star and reservations were made at the desk in front of Sabatini's. The girl there had the menus for each night's dinner so you could see which one to miss. She also took the Chef's Table request. It really wasn't that popular and was almost cancelled since there were only 8 interested people. This was after publicizing it in the Patters. It was cancelled the week before for lack of interest. We loved the Chef's Table. Maybe the people on the Alaska circuit don't go for the fanfare.

We did the Chef's Table on the Caribbean Princess earlier this year. We called the Dine line as soon as we got to our cabin and we boarded about 1400 (for our 2300 sailing) The earlier the better for the Chef's Table. I do know all the folks at our Chef's Table made the call pretty quickly. Definitely a great experience.
