Writeratsea Posted October 3, 2009 #2 Share Posted October 3, 2009 Okay, I'm a bit confused - are these 2 separate places??? The official name is King's Wharf. But everyone in Bermuda calls it the dockyard. It is at the extreme left end of the island and is where the Bermuda government wants to steer the tourists to. Is is okay, but I prefer historic St. George or the hustle and bustle of the capital, Hamilton
Maple Sugar Posted October 4, 2009 #3 Share Posted October 4, 2009 The correct name is the Royal Naval Dockyard. The British began building Royal Naval Dockyard after their defeat of the American War of Independence and have just had their 200 anniversary. That area has lots of history and amazing buildings. Kings Wharf is a dock where the ships dock.

smeyer418 Posted October 11, 2009 #5 Share Posted October 11, 2009 Kings Wharf as Paul points out is the name of the pier(the British name the piers?) and the Dockyards(Royal Naval Dockyards) is the place the pier is located and the left side is the west end of the island. So its sometimes called the West End....its all the same place. it can get quite confusing. BTW the Royal Navy has left. Its mostly stores, a small beach(Snorkel Park) restaurants and the Bermuda jail(both old and new). Here is the Dawn at the pier. Heritage is at the right and the jail to the left...
