Howard Johnson in Old San Juan

I found what looks like a good deal on the Howard Johnson in Old San Juan for $100 a night. Anyone have any experiences staying here? Was is really in Old San Juan? Are there any good restaurants and shopping locations nearby?

Others have stayed, you can do a search on CC. People I know liked it well enough.

 

It is in OSJ- at Plaza del Armas. Walking distance to everything- restaurants, shopping, the forts etc. (even the Pier 4 cruise dock- but a cab ride away from yur cruise ship's dock).

It sounds like a good price to me.

We have walked past the place 3 or 4 times in the last couple days. Looks interesting from the outside, lots of great places to eat all around. Lots of shopping. Everything in short walking distance. It seemed like a small place from the street. We re staying at the El Convento for a few days and like I said we have walked past the Howard Johnson.

We are staying there in Feb. One thing to note, most rooms do not have windows, the elevator is very small, but the building is 100+ years old and the location is great. So if these things are not a problem, go for it.

Thank you so much for the replies, especially those of you in San Juan right now!!! It is great to hear good things. The no windows won't bother me! I like a dark bedroom!
